>>65198653You have to take the entire mask off to change internal cheek filters which is understandably kind of a bad idea in a CRBN environment.Since the filters are smaller than canisters they also generally last less long which just compounds the first issue.They're probably not bad for something like riot cops but everyone as far as I know is moving away from them.Mind, I'm not talking about something like a 3M mask or a angled canister but masks like the m17 and the Soviet combine metrocop/STALKER mask

You can 3D print and attach adapters. The military style cartridges are 40mm threaded which is an easy thing to print an adapter for.

>>65198659Ordinarily I'm a big proponent of 3d printing things whenever possible, but in this case I'd probably just buy the adapters because 3M themselves make them so you can guarantee some reasonable level of quality, they include gaskets, and they're on Amazon for like $12 each shipped.

>>65198524With normal gas masks that have threaded filters you can get an adapter which is sketchy enough because it could potentially create a compromised seal. With cheek filters that gets even more sketchy. It suffers from being horribly inflexible with filters in terms of size/shape. Installing and changing the filters is also a pain. Cheek filter masks in general just plain suck.I suppose you can make an adapter to attach an external filter but then why not just wear a mask that is designed to use an external filter in the first place. Old gas masks are cheap because they are military surplus where a bloated defense budget paid for them years ago and they are too old to be trusted today, plus the filters were made with questionable materials typically providing better than nothing levels of protection back when they were fresh which they aren't nowadays.You rip your hair out making a pack of filters for that old mask today and not only will they suck, but they'll also cost hundreds of dollars per pack retail, nobody will buy them because nobody wants to spend 5x what they paid for an old cool looking gas mask just to get modern filters for it, and you'll need a massive profit margin on every filter you sell in order to afford business insurance for the inevitable lawsuit once some idiot tries using your filters with a leaky old mask to make meth in his bathroom and burns his lungs.>>65198686I've worn an M17 and it's not bad for how old it is but not that much better than an M9.Just enjoy the old cheek filter masks as collectibles or costume props only. Don't try to actually use them for anything. Sometimes it's perfectly fine to have a thing because you think it's cool and looks interesting rather than having it serve a functional purpose as well.
