>rename it 32 Automag>concentrate on 85-100 grain bullets>market really hard on capacity, reduced recoil, and good expansion velocityDoes it do any better?
>>65198943(If ? I was considering Shield Plus) Wouldn't want it in that chambering. What I really want is a Plus—new as-manufactured whole pistol from factory—update of the Shield 45.
>>65198943neck it down for a .270 90gr for higher velocity and its a winner
>>65198943it does nothing better
>>65199010I think more capacity, softer shooting, and better sectional density are existent upsides. SD argument doubled by >>65198990
>>65199023>I think more capacity, softer shooting, and better sectional density are existent upsides.lolnot going to happen
>>65199029But it did happen. Objectively. Because of physics
>>65199023>softer shootingIt doesn't shoot 'softer' than 9 mm it has the fast-acceleration snap that .40 doesLike .40 you can easily adapt / learn to shoot the cartridge
>>65198943No.Because it doesn't change the fact that the only thing it does better than 9mm is slightly more capacity. And that singular advantage really doesn't mean anything in a platform where I already have 15+1 on tap.Additionally, no amount of marking will overcome the fact it was double the price of 9mm when released. There were only two guns chambered for it upon release. It was released into a market where there were already shortages and prices were already inflated meaning the economic pressure was greatly in favor of already existing cheap and reliable products. New shooters had no incentive to go for it. Experienced shooters had no reason to care about it.At BEST it's a "more capacity" novelty round. It was absolutely doomed, both by the fact it's garbage and the reality of the market it was released into.
>>65198943115 does have very high sectional density, more than 147 grain 9mm or 180 grain .40, and out of a 4 inch barrel actually loaded to the 52k saami spec has good velocity
>>65198943How about .327 auto since it shares the same projectile as .327 mag, .32 h&r and .32 s&w long with similar pressure to .327 mag?
>>65198943No one who talks about .30 pooper carry has ever shot it, im convinced im the only person on this board that has shot it both a shield plus and an EZ
>>65199547Capacity isn't even as relevant as people make it out to be. In the preponderance of gunfights civilians only shoot 2-3 rounds. Everyone watches videos of roided out cops mag dumping suspects after hearing an acorn drop and they think they need 30 round pistol mags. Meanwhile you have old men in South America dumping two carjackers with a round apiece from his magnum revolver. One carjacker got killed through the rear windshield of his getaway vehicle while he was trying to escape after watching his buddy ate shit the moment he stepped out of the vehicle. Grandpa Hernandez killed two guys and still had 3 rounds left in his revolver...
>>65200026>Capacity isn't even as relevantcorrect, and when you look at the Shield Plus specific handgun in particular, I'd much rather have a 9 mm one vs. a 30 SC one
>>65198990neck it down to .14 and I'll buy one.
>>65198943Serious question. Why does .327 Federal Magnum out perform 30 super carry? They use the same diameter projectiles : .312 inches. 30 SC operates at 52,000 psi, while .327 mag operates at 45,000 psi. BUT .327 mag pushes a 100 grain bullet out of a 3 1/16 inch barrel at 1400 feet per second while 30 SC pushes a 100 grain bullet out of a 4 inch barrel at 1250 feet per second? How does lower pressure out of a shorter barrel make bullet go faster? This goes against everything I thought I knew about how this sort of thing is supposed to work.I double checked the numbers against the manufacturers data and real world testing. These are the correct numbers, but they don't make sense. Is it because 327 mag has a much larger case capacity? Does it mean the powder has a chance to burn more completely and push harder on the bullet before it's ever pushed out of the case? What's actually going on?
>>65200697First off, those are MAX pressures. It's rare for factory ammo to be loaded anywhere close to max spec, so it's very possible that in those specific examples the actual pressure is higher in the .327 load. Also, there is some fuckery with how barrel lengths are measured. In a semiauto it's real simple, it's simply the distance from the breech face to the muzzle. For whatever reason that is not the method used for revolvers. The barrel length is the length of the barrel itself and does not include the cylinder. So in reality if you were to measure the revolver the same way as the semi-all the way from the breech face, the real functional barrel length is longer, probably by about 1.5 inches.I believe your data, Ballistics By the Inch measured 1398 fps for American Eagle 100gr .327 out of a Contender with a 4" barrel and 1378 out of a Bond Arms derringer. Both of those measurements would have been to the breechface. They measured 1422 out of a Ruger SP-10 with a 3" barrel (not including cylinder).
>>65200697Much longer case can use more powder for less pressure. .30 super carry pushes a little powder a long way. From what i see .327 mag is typically getting loaded with 6-7+ grains of a given powder vs 5-6 for .30 for the same powder, some .327 is even getting upwards of 10 grains of a given powder where i imagine that might blow up a .30 sc unless it was with a very light and short bullet
>>65198943All they had to do was have more guns available chambered for it. When your only options are 2 S&Ws and an expensive Nighthawk 1911, it was DOA.
>>65201274>not even a nighthawk 2011Truly they decided to be gay on purpose
>>65200734Can you use a magnum primer to boost the rate of powder burn to increase pressure and drive the bullet faster (more bang for the same barrel length, powder type and mass (assuming chamber and barrel can handle the increase)? Why dont 9mm use magnum primers?
