Never finished it. The games where you have to choose a side in the end I always put off the main missions and complete all the sidequests then just get bored. The mechanics were better in New Vegas, but the setpiece missions were a lot better in Fallout 3. By the time they released Tale of Two Wastelands give you ammo crafting and ADS in both, the games were already like a decade old.

Same with Fallout 4 (worse than those two) where I did the game up until picking a side and all the dlc, then just never bothered finishing it.

>>65203276
its just the in-lore version of .223/5.56 from fallout 1 & 2, but since 3 added 5.56, they kept it as a separate cartridge for balancing reasons
its more comparable to .222 Remington as a result

Fallout 1 and 2 had .223 as a separate cartridge from 5mm. My head canon was always that 5mm was 5.45x39, as one of the two weapons that shoot it in fallout 1 is an Avtomat Kalashnikov 112.

>>65203543
It was Oblivion with guns, it was groundbreaking. You can't discount the experience of being first. By the time New Vegas came out it was old hat. Like I said, still an excellent content pack. If you're still playing it two decades later, Tale of Two Wastelands includes both with all guns and adds ADS to FO3, so it's completely moot.

>It'll knock down even a ranger, sure, but power armor? I don't see it.
I wouldn't say that it would kill him, assuming you took the easy shot and landed one on his chest, but you'll certainly have his full attention. Even more so if you have the luxury of taking a shot somewhere with less armor, like the knees.

Handloading semi-wadcutter loads dramatically improves performance with .44 Magnum and .45-70 Gov't, and should help to do damage against at least T-45D Power Armor, and more importantly it helps the .44 Magnum revolvers continue to feel mighty and badass as you go.
JFP loads of .357 Magnum also helps that caliber, but mostly early on in the game, .357 sadly becomes rather insignificant against anything but trashmobs as you get further, with exception for the K9000 Machinegun in Old World Blues, which can make up for it some by sheer volume of fire.

Mind that Damage Tolerance in FONV is capped at absorbing 'only' as much as 80% of an attack's damage, meaning you can still wear down armored enemies with enough volume, even if their armor or hide is cockblocking your bullets or zaps.

>>65202653
Hand Loader is really a mandatory perk for any character that plans on using firearms to any serious degree. Aside from retaining more of your spent cases for recycling, loading better types of ammo and repurposing ammo types you don't use for better kinds is such an incredible advantage and convenience that it cannot be understated.

>>65202765
I have thought about it, and there'd be some appeal (porting it to new consoles would probably see it as a big sales success, assuming they properly patch it up some), but a far greater gift to the community would be to just give the fans the source code for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and then release a bunch of unused and cut development content.

Of course, such a thing is very unlikely to happen, but one can dream.
>>
>>65202940
Combat is largely fine.

>>65202995
FO3 didn't have that much more for setpieces than NV did.
Joining the NCR grunts in sieging the NCR Correctional Facility, complete with breaching the fences with bombs, then gunning down the Powder Gangers in droves (while I blast Blitzkrieg in the background, the original, not the Metallica cover), is as good as helping Desmond Lockhart fight off swarms and swarms of delusional tribals attacking his mansion in Point Lookout.

>>65203010
It ain't without them, but nuking Megaton isn't all that special after the first time.

>>65203411
As someone who played both on launch, absolutely not. FO3 isn't a bad game, but most of its story and characters range from mediocre to abysmal, and while FONV doesn't have bombproof characters and story either, it's still a lot better written most of the time.

FONV also has much stronger gameplay on average, though FO3 is owed credit for letting FONV stand on its shoulders. For a lot of the Bethesda jank it inherits, it also inherits much of what made it good and fun.

The things that I find I miss in FONV from FO3 is the deep urban ruin combat and exploration from downtown D.C and Pittsburgh, the mutant giants, along with the assault rifles, Chinese swords and pistols, much more authorative boom from the .44 Magnum (but not its mandatory scope), more variety in powee armor, and a lot of stuff like that.
There was a lot of cool shit left in FO3 which was never carried over to FONV, and I think that The Pitt and Point Lookout are just damn fun adventures in their own right, but FONV has just way better roleplaying, combat, variety (mostly), and story.
>>
>>65203436
The main quest in FO3 is probably the weakest part of the game for the most part. There's a few highlights, and also some worthwhile ones in Broken Steel so as to make it worth to suffer through the base game's, but it's all the side stuff in FO3 which is the fun parts.

>>65203442
In FO3's defense, the East Coast BoS being distinct from the original, and then the original ones being described that way, is consistent with how out of touch and bullheaded the Mojave chapter is. Veronica is 100% right about them, they have no future at all on their current path, their original goals have simply completely failed (and still would have if Elijah hadn't gone insane) and they are only marching towards their demise at their current rate.

I also wouldn't say that FO3 is entirely void of atmosphere, it has that part in a lot of places. But yes, it has weak worldbuilding, and overall the picture is largely right in its comparisons.

>>
>>65205081
NV just has droves of great cowboy guns, I love the Ruger (?) .357 revolvers, I love all the lever action guns.

This run, I decided to do some things more different than usual, and I opted to go south from Goodsprings for a bit, to get some useful supplies and some levels, but then I went back north. First the Tribal Camp, there's a den of Cazafuckers there, and while they may be able to ignore landmines (I think), they don't ACTUALLY fly, so with a Varmint Rifle fitted with a scope, and a pile of .223, you can pick off the lot of them from atop the cliff and they can't do much. I've done that before, and gotten that sweet Fire Axe, but I would rarely ever go further.
This time, I decide to get a look at Bonnie Springs, and see if I could take on the armored bandits there. Boy, that wasn't easy, died first try, but with some luck and dynamite, I emerged victorious. My prize? A nice old Marlin lever-action rifle in .44 Magnum, god, such a beautiful sight at a single digit level, 8 fast 240gr from the shoulder was long my big bad gun (I rarely ever used it before because I usually pissed off the Legion at Nipton, and could soon score a .45-70 Brush Gun with the money their hit squads provide, but this time I couldn't afford such expensive ammo, yet).

So I make it to the Great Khans, buddy with them, and carefully sneak through Fiend Territory to get to the Gun Runners and Vegas Clinic. With the money I made from that sweet Fire Axe, I could buy some nice .44 ammo to put to use, and buy myself a Luck Implant. Then I go get the Lucky at the Steve Bison Hotel.

I could keep going and going, but man, such a fun game, so much opportunity for mini-Münchkining (and overt Münchkining).

>create female Courier this time

>but sometimes when overencumbered and forced to walk slowly, it's nice to just sit there and look at her hips and ass going
>like it's sending just a subtle little flutter of happiness to the bottom of my stomach
>character models and animations are all pretty dated by now, but I just enjoy it
And that's how I decided that I'd focus on Light Armor for this run, with Travel Light and Toughness. inb4 troon memes

The wasteland commando pinup look paired with the .44 cowboy rifle and crunked out .357 single action makes for a nice visual combo.

>>65203455
I was gonna say that FONV's 'True' ADS wasn't that great, because with a lot of guns the sights are difficult to see unless you have good lighting.
Then I realize that's actually pretty realistic, and it makes the night sights on some guns very welcome and more important, but some of the sights aren't the best modeled (or, they're victim of model and animation limitations, and you get shit like your thumb blocking your sights).

I really oughta set this game up on PC some day, so I can do various fixes and modifications to it.

>>65203543
Same. FO3 is a good enough game that you could easily improve it a lot by backporting a number of FONVs gameplay and character building improvements. Then maybe fill the game world in with a few towns and settlements, etc.

Make the 10mm not as weak as .32ACP, make the shotguns have a bit of usable range, add in the DT system. Also making the R91 a proper .308 G3/CETME clone, which could actually shoot straight and had proper sighting, that would do a lot for the game (make it locked to semi-auto, but you could get a full-auto conversion kit). Also weapon modifications in general.

>>65205182

I have seen people on /k/ and other places recreating their take with an A1-ish rifle with wood furniture, which makes me wonder if anyone has ever made Randall Clarke's rifle, complete with an FSB bent in a vise.

Speaking of which, reading his accounts is pretty damn sad and dark, the man rarely ever catches a break, it's mostly just suffering.
Something I really like with Fallout is that, when you find old accounts from people who survived after the atom bombs fell, or occasionally a ghoul who was there to see it and retell it, their accounts are always SO fucking grim and bitter, it always hammers in both the catastrophic immediate damage, and how civilized men get pushed into becoming vicious and outright evil savages as there exist no functional society to support people anymore.

Hence I also like the little whitepill that is NCR, the Followers, New Vegas itself, and even Caesar's Legion to a smaller extent (and all their assorted flaws), because humanity, after clawing itself out of those pitch black times, builds again, creating new societies and new prosperity from the ashes of the near global nuclear holocaust.

It's almost a bit like how mankind survived the Ice Age, and at one point we were estimated to be only like 10000 individuals worldwide during that era, but here we are now, we pulled through and built and built.

5.45mm would be an awkward one, especially considering it's used by some U.S weapons.
I could see it being something like 5.7mm MMJ / .22 Spitfire, ergo .30 U.S Carbine necked down to a smaller caliber, that'd fit a bit a little better into the American military part.
But not perfectly, Melvin's cartridge was tried out some, and was pretty well liked as an improvement to the M1 and M2 Carbines, working sort of like a budget SCHV combat rifle option. However, at least IRL it never caught on that well, and the military itself had no need for it because they were standardizing on the shiny new 5.56mm cartridge, which does the exact same thing but 30% more powerful, and still being very light and flat shooting, with nill recoil in the accompanying shiny new Armalite.

Potentially it's some hypothetical baby-.223, shaving down that 0.56mm and also sizing down the case in length and circumference, as some manner of PDW cartridge.
>>
>>65206500
That polished Peacemaker with the stag grips is a thing of beauty. Real stag?
>>
Setting aside the potential issues of 5.56mm in a revolver action (and for that matter the headache of rimless cartridges for an extractor star to interface with), along with the ridiculousness of a barrel length of what seems like 3", That Gun is a pretty nice model.
It captures the LAPD Blaster look pretty well, and the reload animation is nice, showing the ejector star properly ejecting the casings and all.

What caliber do you think would be better suited or just more fun for a gun of its kind? Hardmode, having to actually fit within the same envelope.

It couldn't ever fly, that sort of whoopass isn't tenable for a service pistol which the average gruntmay have to put to use, and the M1 Carbine was just an infinitely more practical answer to the same questions, just not as ballsy and cool.

Militaries from the late 1800s and beyond had already been mostly moving away from larger bores for handguns because it was decided that even those mild (compared to .45 NAACO and .45 Mars) were already considered a bit too hefty for the average soldier to handle effectively, and that smokeless powders could pick up the slack (and sometimes actually did).
Brits, Frenchmen, Russians, Germans, etc, they were all moving away from their .40 to .45 caliber revolvers towards smaller bore automatics (or revolvers still, but smaller bore anyway), so the worldwide trend for service handguns go towards the range of .30 to .38 caliber:
>.30 French Long
>7.65mm Parabellum
>7.63mm Mauser
>7.62mm Tokarev
>7.62mm Nagant
>8mm Nambu
>8mm Gasser
>9mm Browning Short
>9mm Browning Long
>9mm Bergman / Largo
>9mm Steyr
>9mm Parabellum
>9mm Mauser (though to a rather small extent)
>.38 Smith & Wesson (aka .380 Mk.II)
>.38 Special

The U.S is the big outlier in this, because the remarkably weak .38 Long Colt was adopted, in a remarkably shitty revolver, then everyone really hated this and they decided to jump ahead to automatics, yet wanting one which had comparable performance to the trusty old blackpowder large bore revolvers, and what you get is a large bore automatic, but which isn't really harsh to shoot at all.
Despite delusions from people like Jeff Cooper, .45 NAACO's package is only really tenable on (mostly the American) commercial market, which is where it eventually landed as .45 Winchester Magnum, a good but niche handgun hunting and metallic sillhouette cartridge.

The Brigadier, and conceptual Borealis, are cool as fuck though.

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying it was practical at all.
I was thinking more for a sci-fi/pulp setting like the thread subject.
Either because it's kickass and that's that or because it's kickass and there's monsters/mutants/aliens/bigfoot etc that need that kind of firepower.
Same to a more reasonable degree with 9mm mauser export

>>65207323
9mm Mauser is pretty reasonable, it's closely comparable to .38 Super, only lacking that pesky semi-rim.

I think that if .38 ACP and then .38 Super hadn't had that semi-rim, they would eventually have caught on much better, because then you get something with a decent bit more power than 9mm Parabellum, but still without the felt recoil of .45 ACP. Would it have prevented the proliferation if 9mm Parabellum in America? Probably not, it's just too practical of a cartridge in its own right, but we'd probably have seen Hi-Power and CZ75 variants in rimless .38 Super, even Uzis and MP5s probably.

Can you imagine an old M1A1 Thompson alone in rimless .38 Super? Still a clunker of a gun, but it'd stay more level, reach farther, have less recoil, and fit either 30rds in a shorter and lighter magazine, or more rounds in a comparable length magazine.

Fuck, you could still double stack real life .38 Super for a subgun mag, so imagine something similar to the Vz.61 Skorpion's magazine, but big and 30rd or 36rd long, and fitting in a Thompson. Use the simplified M1A1 blowback action and sights, but for aesthetics, use the slotted top charging handle, the finned profile barrel and contoured VFG, and then the Cutts Compensator. The Cutts doesn't just help for a distinct Hollywood muzzleflash, with .38 Super pressures it would help keep the gun really level.

Tell me that wouldn't be a perfect Fallout weapon. With the Thompson's LRBHO, you don't need to rack or release a bolt for reloads either, only swap mags, so it'd be pretty tacticool.
>>
>>65207336
Yeah. I would probably want to do Mojave first instead, then visit Capital Wasteland after.
My issue though is that FONV takes place years and years after FO3, so I feel like to make real sense, it ought to take place after Lone Wanderer has done the campaigns there, which means new campaigns for those places to reflect that, but I don't know if anyone's done that work, probably not.

Now you might lynch me for this, but I'd like to see a Thompsonlike that looks a bit like this dude here/Ingram model 5/other postwar Thompson styled SMGs and PCCs.
Just sex it up here and there but keep the barrel fins, some kind of early polymer pre-M1 style foregrip, wood stock and the tube section receiver.

Idk, seems fine the way it is.

Then again, I couldn't play through 3/4/76/whatever coz it felt like "slop," whatever that means to you.
>>
>>65207670
I'd be ok with the Ingram M6, it fits the Fallout aesthetic well, and I believe they made at least one prototype in .38 Super even.
Those Spitfire carbines are true dogshit though, maybe they could work as a low level SMG, problems with jamming and durability, (and problems with maintaining and repairing), along with occasional runaway full-auto.

Oh I didn't mean literally a spitfire or an Ingram but rather taking elements from them and the pre-m1 Thompson to create an original fictional gun. But taking significant from that particular spitfire. I just dig the wood stock with a poly retro foregrip, barrel fins and tube receiver.

And here's the police version. The company was mainly going for .45 Auto, hoping for U.S military contracts (never happened, obviously), and then 9mm Parabellum.
As said, there was also at least one prototype made in .38 Super, just to show that that they could offer it, though I have never seen it, so I don't know if it uses a similar kind of straight stick mag or not.

Ingram actually got a contract for the M6 down in, I believe Peru, they wanted the GI style one, or something very similar, and they tooled up and made like 10000 guns down there, .45 caliber and all. However, then Peru had a boogaloo, and the new people in charge did not like Gordon Ingram for whatever reason (maybe simply because he was associated with the previous government?), so he had to flee the country in a hurry.

It you want to shoot blacks, there's more of them later, a bunch of the escaped convicts are black, including the first one you'll encounter in that salloon, and you can spray his brains all over the bar with a 20-Gauge and there's not much real consequence for that (though it's more fun to trick the cons into thinking you're backing them, then flip and storm the prison in a siege, so killing him later is more fun).
Easy Pete is one of the gud ones though, you can convince him to give you free dynamite for blowing up the escaped cons, defending the Goodsprings community from rogue niggery.

If you don't like homos, there's two different companions who you can betray in fun ways, either selling them to a group of cannibals, or selling the gay guy as a slave to Caesar (because he's a good doctor and he needs one).

Pretty much, yeah.

Not the most productive approach to blast EVERYONE, but you can outright be an ideologically driven killer of any one faction. There's consequences to all that, and you're expected to pick sides regarding some factions, but it's always worthwhile, at least with the big factions.

Another thing you could do for funny roleplaying purposes is to pick the Confirmed Bachelor perk, but instead of using it for sweet talking and having sex with gay men, instead just use it to suss out if someone is gay, then plan to murder them if they are, like some kind of repressed serial killer.
For bonus points, dress as a cowboy, so that you can then be a cross between John Wayne and John Wayne Gacy.

that's cuz it is on the model and in the lore, anon. they were made in long beach, Ontario territory. hopefully soon this will come to pass as it did in Fallout inshalllah.

As for mine, I bought a stripped C7 upper from B King's Firearms, the Nickel boron bcg from Ar15discounts.com, the faxon 20 inch from the same place (for 110 btw) and the delta ring from spikes tactical.

On the in game model, its an C7 upper with the a2 delta ring, A1 hand guard and fsb, a2 grip, and either a1 or a2 stock, its a mismatch of different models to create one.

>>
>>65213177
12.7mm in game dosn't make a ton of sense. Josh Sawyer said that it was supposed to be somewhere between a .50 beowulf and .50 AE but since there was already a .50 bmg in game he didn't want players getting confused by all the different .50 cartriges so they combined the two and called it 12.7mm. When used in the 12.7mm pistol it acts like .50 AE but in the Survivalist's rifle it acts more like .50 Beowulf.
>>
>>65213436
Well, I think another big reason is ammo logistics, because Honest Hearts already introduced .45 Auto, but it would have been an awkward proposition to the average player to add yet another .50 caliber ammo type, and then just for one single weapon.

Personally though, I think it makes just as much sense in .50AE, that'd be a hefty thumper from a rifle barrel, but in an easy to shoot rifle.

Remaking from the ground up would be an abject fucking chore of a project, New Vegas already was one by itself.

Remastering would be less work, but if they could do that without COMPLETELY buttfucking all the existing mods on PC, then it would be worth it, it'd sell well on console at any rate (remasters of popular old games genuinely outsell most new AAA games by a good margin).
Maybe see if some of the original devs want to come and polish and fill out some of the frayed ends of the game (like almost complete things which got cut, fix some of the errors, implement stuff which would be easy to implement now, etc).

For instance, Josh Sawyer said that Honest Hearts as a project got crimped some because of memory limitations on console at the time. The tribals were supposed to be a mix of races and skin colors (white, brown, black), as they're all descended from the foreign pre-war tourists who were at and around Grand Canyon when the bombs fell, and in addition to that they were also going to have all these different body tattoos, but they couldn't fit that into memory. (You could rationalize some of it as blended mutts, but I feel that mixes of more distinct bloodlines would make those tribes more interesting).
Josh also said that Daniel was supposed to have been Asian all along, but that someone (maybe even himself mistakenly), tagged him as Caucasian instead, so he doesn't look like he was originally modeled to.

Most of that stuff would be just little things, but the Honest Hearts stuff is an example of the more substantial kind which wouldn't be much of a problem to implement 15+ years later, and wouldn't call for roping in all the old voice actors for new lines.
Another would be to cleanly consolidate the GRA stuff, so that there's for instance only one type of available Plasma Defender, rather than the base unmoddable one, and the GRA moddable one (then accordingly for the other weapons).

I'm not even the only person I know who feels this way. Friend of mine says it makes him feel almost delirious. He thinks in part it might be the lighting.
I'd love to know any specific graphics settings or mods that could help with whatever the fuck is happening here but I'm not really doing the sensation justice.

I just finally googled it mostly to make sure I wasn't crazy and yeah it seems like a lot of people have various, hard to describe issues with looking at Fallout 4.
Some of the shit can be narrowed down (narrow FOV, motion blur, power armor head bob) but there's so many layers to it.
And really it wouldn't be THAT awful if it just didn't just compound on the general feeling of disorientation and ennui the rest of the game gives.
All for a gimped game I don't even like much about in the first place
No idea how they did it, but Bethesda must have had a truly talented shit-midas on their team during development.

Maybe someday I'll do open heart mod surgery on the motherfucker and finally really play it but goddamn.

The people making games just used to be more like us.
Trying to "appeal to the audience" often becomes appealing to the lowest common denominator for salesmaxing purposes.
Of course devs making a game for themselves could backfire back then too since a dev will inevitably know his game front to back.
It's a balancing act that requires vision, manageable team sizes and good taste.

The gaming industry in general is full of noguns who only have a vague understanding of the mechanics of firearms but bethesda's modeling department is particularly ass in the firearms department. Their designs tend to fall into the uncanny territory of being too far removed from IRL gun designs to be recognizable as any one model while at the same time being too boring to be fun to use, all the while anyone with a basic understanding of firearms can pick a dozen holes in any of their designs. I think NV did it right with having a mix of straight copies of IRL guns and wacky guns.

Chris Avellone thinks that a Gamebryo game couldn't be reverse engineered? He's wrong, all software can be with enough effort.
I also always made sure to get every single gold bar out of the Sierra Madre's vault.

Sneaking around the Gomorrah, one of the Omerta goons caught me, and fired off his sawed-off shotgun at me once, then I iced him quickly and quietly with Sleepytime (Silenced 10mm SMG).

I was thinking maybe I had fucked up, but hiding the body in the weapon's storage, and then sneaking out, it didn't seem like they were aggressive, but getting back to Cachino, after talking to me, he went aggro and started shooting at me.
Not wanting to go back to an earlier save, I slink back into the shadows with Stealthboys, and I've basically been doing How Little We Know from the shadows, very quickly talking to people like Troike or Joana then slipping back into Sneak again (because even Joana would aggro if she saw me, lol).

I wanna blow up Nero in his suite with my remaining Fat Mine, as revenge for the weapon's check at the door glitching my Sportl-Wood 9700 out of existence once (I reloaded after that). That won't break the quest, right, I can kill the Omerta bosses separately and it's good, right?

It's built out of Fallout 3, yes. If you reverse engineered or had the source code for one, then you'd already have most of the other.
Gamebryo is owned by a third party though, and I doubt they'll ever give out their source code publicly, as their business hinges on it, but it could still be reverse engineered, which would be entirely legal.

3D fallouts were always more action games than RPGs, but the worldbuilding was always good, and 76s environments are really, really well done.
I dont mean the old release quests where you find corpses with sad holotapes. I mean actual quests with NPCs that have moral dillemmas that can end in the NPC killing themselves, depending on what you say. Its completely inconsequential in the long run (well not entirely, the NPC is gone for you) but still, its there.
It was trash when it came out. But experienced vidya gamers will notice something when playing this game: The developers are on your side. You can acess all monetization stuff without paying a single dollar.
The solutions found for different levels playing together and the MMO economy are also very good IMHO.

Fallout 3 is pretty fun, but the main quest was always weak. A single sliver of optional novelty in progression doesn't exactly redeem the mediocre and uninspired storytelling and gameplay that it actually boasts for the majority of its length.
The only really good part about the main quest is Liberty Prime, as he's at least a fun combat setpiece.

>>65228179
It's not obtuse at all, the fact that you can theoretically skip a chunk of the game's main quest by chance doesn't make up for the rest of it.
It's a bit of freedom, but it's not particularly significant, it doesn't change the outcome of the story, it doesn't change any gameplay, at best it just lets you cut some of the meandering.

I can say this because I fucking DID that shit back when the game was new, I didn't bother following the early main quest at all, I just went exploring around, doing side shit, and then found dad by chance.
I thought it was mildly neat, and then did a bit of the main quest from there, but then gave that up and went back to just exploring and doing side things.
This wasn't impressive to me because Bethesda had already done things like that before, but better.
>>
>>65228200
The game doesn't tell you to go straight to Vegas, it tells you to track Benny down, which you'd be ignoring by not going south. The incentive to go there is because it's the centerpiece location of the game and in the title, you could be going there because you wanted to go and gamble.
Yeah, the northern path is dangerous, but you can still push through it, mainly by sneaking, it's also really not impossible to fight a single Cazador when at level 2 or 3, I've done that.

>You happen to randomly come across the very person you are looking for in this entire open world game with 0 evidence on where he could be.

>New Vegas was just an expansion to Fallout 3.
Lmao fucking what? Do you seriously think that New Vegas is just some giant Fallout 3 ESM and a cunningly disguised mod loader? By that logic MechWarrior 5 is an expansion to Fortnite because they both run on UE4.

Also, the reason that Bethesda doesn't have the NV source code (and hence the reason why remaster NEVER EVER for the foreseeable future) is because after NV released Bethesda offered Obsidian the princely sum of $10,000 for it and Obsidian told them to get bent. That particular tidbit just came out in an interview recently IIRC.

>Nothing breaks in an online game you idiot
Are you high? Online game break all the time and 76 in particular has been buggy as shit ever since it released.

>Are you one of those classicfags that pretends Fallout was golden IP despite constant lore inconsistencies with the Interplay published games?
Who the hell ITT is claiming that 1, 2 and NV were perfect? Of course they have flaws. That doesn't stop all three of them from being some of the best CRPGs ever made.

>>65228190
>The guy that shot you in the head and left you for dead is from New Vegas, and while you COULD go there directly to continue the main quest you'll probably get eaten by the local wildlife and miss some side quests so the better option is probably to take the long route. No rush.

>Okay, so if you've already played the game before you'll know that you have to head to an obscure hidden area that your character has absolutely no way of knowing about instead of following hot on the trail of your missing father (or you could just ignore your urgent character motivation and dick around until you somehow stumble onto it by accident) and this will skip half of the main quest.

Obsidian did not have the source code for Fallout 3 until about 6 months before release. If New Vegas was just nothing but an .esm for Fallout 3, why was this of any consequence to them and why did they complain about it?
They wouldn't need that source code if it was just an .esm after all, in fact, there would have been zero need for Bethesda to furnish them with it to begin with, and not having it wouldn't have been even talked about at all.
>>
>>65228279
Are you still laboring under the delusion that Obsidian didn't do any changes under the hood at all?
They didn't write that shit into the existing Fallout 3 source code, they made their own branch of it.
>>
>>65228264
>>65228279
Check it out yourself. Avellone did a youtube interview with TKS-Mantis on 4/21 when this came up. The COMPLETE source code transfer, the master, was structured as a milestone worth $10,000 and Obsidian said "nah" and Bethesda was left with whatever fragments that BGS had from collaborating with Obsidian. Wouldn't be surprised if someone in legal got fired for that one.

BGS pitched in on New Vegas but they didn't have access to the complete source code and neither BGS nor Bethesda Softworks owned it, just like how they don't have complete and total ownership over the TV show.

It's extremely foolish of them to not try to do new negotiations, because a proper remaster of New Vegas would sell really well.

Shit, they should double feature it with a proper remaster of Fallout 3, first do that one and release it, then tease the coming remaster of New Vegas a year or two later. They're two EXTREMELY fondly remembered games, and remasters of beloved classics are obscenely bankable in 2026.
It could also tide people over some more for TES6.

Assuming it still exists, Obsidian wouldn't settle for anything less than points on the package this time and you can bet it would be coming out of their end and not Microsoft's.

>because a proper remaster of New Vegas would sell really well.
>Shit, they should double feature it with a proper remaster of Fallout 3, first do that one and release it, then tease the coming remaster of New Vegas a year or two later.
Well that's kind of the issue, isn't it? Bethesda really can't touch the subject without embarrassing themselves despite the money that's on the table. If they only release 3 then everyone complains "when New Vegas" while the usual suspects dunk on 3 and Bethesda yet again and if they remaster both of them then New Vegas will publicly eat 3's lunch. Again. While everyone praises it and compares it favorably to 3. And of course, remastering NV by itself is out of the question for both practical reasons and what I mentioned above.

>They're two EXTREMELY fondly remembered games,
New Vegas certainly is, but 3? After 4 and 76 and Starfield and several more Skyrim re-releases and entering their ninth(!) year of radio silence on TESVI after announcing it their star isn't nearly as bright as it once was. "Shitting on Bethesda" is its own youtube niche at this point and 3 takes a ton of that heat.

>and remasters of beloved classics are obscenely bankable in 2026.
But bankable enough? Doubt it.

>It could also tide people over some more for TES6.
Not an option. This year they might get a bit of a pass given that GTA VI is going to hit the market like a freight train but if they don't slap a '27 release date on TESVI sometime between now and the end of the TGAs then Microsoft is going to take them out behind the woodshed and sell what's left for parts.
>>
>>65228273
It’s funny though, that’s how Tale of Two Wastelands works, you back port FO3 from New Vegas, which means you get all the gameplay improvements and crafting in FO3.
>>
>>65228474
>If they only release 3 then everyone complains "when New Vegas" while the usual suspects dunk on 3 and Bethesda yet again and if they remaster both of them then New Vegas will publicly eat 3's lunch.
That's why you stage it, do Fallout 3 first and then state that New Vegas is following. New Vegas would outright be way more work to do anyway, it's a much denser game, it would take more time to remaster.

>New Vegas certainly is, but 3?
Fallout 76 was not well received, and it was a huge controversy, but Fallout 4 sold well and was largely received well. It's not the game that I had wanted after New Vegas, or even Fallout 3, but it's a well liked game. Fallout 3, likewise, is still fondly remembered by many.

You need to consider popularity and appeal outside of just New Vegas and classic Fallout fans, it's a bigger picture than that. Consider for how many people, Fallout 3 was their first Fallout game, they loved it, and then New Vegas came along and they loved it even more.
Those people aren't all gonna stop loving Fallout 3 because they think New Vegas is better, getting a polished up Fallout 3 on modern consoles, with a promise of a polished up New Vegas to come, that would get a lot of people lining up, especially if they only charge $30-40 at most, and include all the DLC, maybe some bonus stuff too.

>But bankable enough? Doubt it.
It really is. Remasters of classics sell really fucking well and have excellent profit margins, because big AAA or """AAAA""" games sell only moderately ok in comparisons (and sometimes struggle to make their money back, because the production was way too expensive, thus why big games are going extra hard on microtransactions and pay2win shit now).

I would not be surprised if the remaster of Oblivion had a better ratio of cost to revenue than Starfield did.

>Bethesda really can't touch the subject without embarrassing themselves
They never embarrassed themselves to begin with. The relationship between Obsidian and Bethesda soured because of Obsidian's retarded CEO that tried to sue Bethesda Softworks after New Vegas released. The same guy who led the Outer Worlds and Avowed.

Huh. Do me a favor, guy, stay here and stop shitting up /ck/.

Also, I kinda just skimmed the thread, but has anyone actually tried answering the question in the OP? Looking some shit up in a minute, it seems like your average 45-70 delivers around 2300-2800 ft/lbs of energy which, converting to joules in this random-ass converter I found, is approximately 3100 joules on the low-end.

>the T-51b shell is lightweight and capable of absorbing over 2,500 Joules of kinetic impact.
This doesn't tell me dick-all about T45, which was probably built more to stop kinetic weaponry than energy weaponry, laser guns and shit, but 45-70 could wreck T51-b.

>You're thinking of Interplay "losing" the source code for Fallout 1, 2, Tactics and BoS
No, I'm thinking of Obsidian having the source code for their modifications to the engine and not giving it up to Bethesda. Other anons have explained so I won't.
>Nothing breaks in an online game you idiot
FO76 is currently busted (again) as of last Tuesday's update. People started bitching when daily and weekly challenges were tied to mutated events, and while events were starting on the hour (as mutated events are supposed to), they were normal events. Bethesda helpfully responded that they knew about the problem and were working to fix it. On Wednesday, they added additional non-mutated challenges to make up for the unachievable ones instead of, you know, getting the mutated events running as they're supposed to.
>they broke their own game (again) with an update and don't know how to fix it (again)
>the player base is used to it at this point so no one is too worried
You may associate Bethesda with buggy software and you'd be right, but that was then and this is now. They can't even keep legacy shit running properly anymore because...
>Gamebryo
Is what those games run on and no one works with it these days, including the Koreans that now own it, which is why it's essentially a dead property and has been for over a decade. If you think Bethesda's Jeet Squad is going to figure it out, I have a bridge to sell you.
>Are you one of those classicfags
No. I've never even played the Interplay games and I don't intend to. Isometric games stopped being fun for me back in 1999, and Fallout's lore is about as pure and consistent as the English language is, which at this point I'm not sure that you speak natively. I'm not even sure why you brought that up. I was merely explaining why there won't be a remaster. The lore is a separate issue and one that I don't give a fuck about.
>>
>>65227991
>FO76 is a great
No, but it has its upsides. In terms of atmosphere, probably my favorite part is the piles of skeletons in the dumpsters behind Whitespring with the Mr. Handy nearby dutifully tidying up. They never explain it fully, but it's heavily implied that when everyone there died, the robots performed as programmed - they cleaned the place up, dumped all the trash in the dumpsters, and hopefully one day the garbage truck will come by to empty those out. Shame about what happened after the bombs dropped but Whitespring is open for business!
>it had a bit more impact before bethesda realized mmo's don't work without npc's and added npc's

Bethesda has historically been very good at telling stories through the strategic placement of assets in a scene. What they've historically not been very good at is functional code and game balance, which are some of the reasons why FO76 is not great. The setting was unironically so fucked that they had to reboot it after release, and now they're feebly trying to do so again to tie it to Netflix and bring in those sweet, sweet new player bucks.
>even though the desert is in ohio, not nevada

>It's definitely not as strong as the other games, but it has its good aspects.
That's just it; the good faith argument for FO3 is basically "New Vegas might dunk on Fallout 3 in terms of gameplay, dialogue, story, lore, quests, characters, weapons, enemies, player agency, map design and everything else but it's not like Fallout 3 is COMPLETELY shit".

Fallout 3 isn't the worst game ever (not even the worst Bethesda game any more, and given that BoS exists it was never even the worst Fallout game) but considering the most polished editions of each game (all DLCs, dev and unofficial patches, etc.) 3 still ends up somewhere around a C- while New Vegas is a solid A overall. In a vacuum 3 is meh but putting it up side-by-side with New Vegas is basically the least flattering comparison possible. Who wins when you compare Caesar to president Eden as the leader of the "bad guy" faction? What's the better "sci-fi" DLC between Old World Blues and Mothership Zeta? Who's the better ghoul companion between Charon and Raul? What's the better set piece between Hoover Dam and the Jefferson Memorial? Which optional challenge wins between hardcore mode and ...nothing? The more you compare 3 and New Vegas, the worse 3 looks.

What did you guys do for the wood furniture? That's the only thing stopping me from finishing my build.
>>
>>65234685
I'm neither of those guys but both of their furniture sets look like they came from American Icon, which I think is what most people go with. Alternatively, you could probably commission a set from any decent woodworker in your area, or try carving a set yourself if you're willing to invest in tools. I've also seen people paint polymer stocks, which would be the cheapest option if you just want the wood look, though I'm not sure how hard it would be to paint convincing wood grain.

Why even do that? The only reason to touch a NV remaster would be if it meaningfully expanded the legion side and freeside or remodelled every asset; which based upon the oblivion remaster, it would not. It would just be the same game as 15 years ago, with new lighting, ai-upscaled textures and now your mods dont work. They wouldn't even fix the broken perks.

With New Vegas being notoriously buggy, especially on launch, just fixing a bunch of shit would be a pretty obvious step, and welcome in itself. Also it would be a good game for this generation of console peasants to experience.

Hell yeah.
You'd think there'd be more blackpowder and muskets in Fallout, actually, given how much easier it is to make blackpowder and guns for using them.

You see that shit in Africa today, dudes who carefully scavenge for good bits and pieces to cobble together pipe muskets, and then scavenge every single scrap of lead for projectiles (making sure to recover all they can after shooting an animal), and save up on coal, nitrates, and sulfur.
Quality obviously varies a lot, some look comically crude, while others look relatively reasonable. Here's an article on them by Larry Potterfield.
https://media.mwstatic.com/cms/larrys-stories/2018_8/218_guns-of-the-poachers.pdf

It'd make sense to me to see such weapons here and there in Fallout, especially with tribals.
Like maybe the tribe has a few proper guns (the chieftain having a reasonably nice lever-action rifle with a decorated stock, passed down from his father), but then most of them being rough craft guns like these.

It means you're not a chronic cynic that can't have fun.
>>
>>65238408
I don't think it has to be all mindless cynicism.
My first Fallout was outright 3, and I thought it was really good. Then New Vegas came out and it blew my fucking mind, it was such a good game, and such an improvement.

Come Fallout 4, I didn't really like what I was seeing, removing SPECIAL and stuff, basically just doing the plot from 3 again but reversed, and weapons looking like they're just way worse. Much of the added depth from NV wasn't there.
There was a lot of stuff which made me feel like it wouldn't be the next step that I wanted it to be (and in some ways regression), and really I already wasn't very satisfied with the path Bethesda had already taken with Skyrim, so I just didn't play it.

Maybe I'll pick it up one day, maybe some of it can be fixed, but I was put off by it.
>>
The next Fallout game I played after Fallout 3 wasn't actually even New Vegas, it was Fallout Tactics, a game which I found in a bin and heard being derided by long time fans, but I actually found that I liked it a lot.

No actual roleplaying in that game at all, like really just about zero, which was kind of a shamee, but it was still a fun squad tactics game.

>removing SPECIAL and stuff
I understood why they did it, it's why the level cap in 4 is like 270. People were already maxing out their levels in 3 and NV. I think they just tried to stretch it out since damn near every interaction in 4 can grant XP. Don't play 4 if you have building autism tho.
>>
>>65238435
It feels like it was just dumbing things down to try to make it an easier sell to people averse to having to learn basic things like stats and attributes. I felt the same way for Skyrim.

I'm not even gonna say that it wouldn't be fun to get to a higher level than 50 for a game like New Vegas, but you're gonna be a FUCKING mighty courier by that point if you had just half a sense for building, and I think the case can be made that you've basically just completed your character's build by that point.
Once you reach level 50 in that game, you probably don't have all that much left to actually do in the game world anyway.

>Don't play 4 if you have building autism tho.

It's not just that New Vegas is capped at 50, you can easily put 10 into all of the SPECIAL stats and become an almost god even in Survival. I don't agree with 4s level system but I see where it came from. In 4, you can easily level yourself up just by building your 1st settlement, especially on an INT build where you're granted more XP.

>>65238447
I meant that it's all you'll be doing is managing your settlements and supply lines and trying to optimize them at every turn since you can pretty build on all the people who live in your settlements.

Mods will make this autism even more severe

The lower was from bad attitude dept.
The furniture is from blue river ridge woodworks. He is a new guy and he only started up a few months ago but i took a risk because his prices are half what the other want.
The fit and finish honestly isnt great but it was worth the price for a functional service rifle stock.
It had a sizable gap on the handguard that i had to sand and fit. The stock is about 2mm too short so i have to find a way to fill the tiny gap there. Lastly the tru oil finish is lumpy and spotty like it was rushed.
That being said, it was under 300 for me to get some real walnut furniture for my rifle and i can look past some cosmetic issues. Ill probably make a little spacer for the stock, and then sand and refinish it at some point. For the time being its plenty good enough to patrol the mojave on a budget. Its going to get dinged up fighting the legion anyway.
