I'm thinking about picking one of these up this summer to jump into flintlock hunting this winter.

Anyone have any experience with these?

Is it possible to mount something like a scoutrifle scope forward of the lock and frizzen without ruining it?
>>
Okay before you do that, are you just looking to get into a muzzleloading season or do you want something cool to shoot?

Muzzleloading season.

I'm in PA, where there's both a muzzleloading season and flintlock season, so i thought I'd get something legal for both.

Then yes that will serve you fine. In terms of ruining it you can't really ruin it, its not a proper replica nor is it historically accurate or significant. Its a musket shaped modern manufactured black powder gun. I don't know how good the glass is, but Traditions sells a kit for mounting scopes.

I wasn't concerned about ruining the rifle, but the scope. I'm thinking something along the lines of a Burris scout scope, and I'm wondering if all of the smoke and sparks will ruin the scope. I apologize for being vague.

it'll get dirty faster but its nothing that wont wipe off

>Muzzle loading seasion
>Also flintlock season
Is this implying there's guy with percussion cap or flintlocks that get their own time out there?
>>

Muzzleloading season is any muzzleloader.

Flintlock season is flintlock muzzleloaders only.

Someone oughta make something a bit more old fashioned looking to mount with.

I see the logic, flintlock is harder than caplock, need better followthrough and you give the game a better chance to react and flee.

Most muzzleloader hunters use something like this

>209 primers
>easy scope mounting
>modern materials for weather and corrosion resistance

Basically makes muzzleloader season as easy as regular firearms season.

Pennsylvania has a flintlock only season, not sure about other states. It's the first week or two of muzzleloader season, as I recall.

I know, and that's their choice, but it's not very traditional.

A Pic rail and a scope isn't very traditional on a flintlock either. You should go all in on the modern stuff or go all in on a nice looking historical reproduction of something like a Kentucky Longrifle.

I could tolerate something vaguely old fashioned looking, as long as it didn't look like a pic rail.
