Well last week i was in a section of my local mall that sold firearms. I noted to the vendor that i was looking for a first ever firearm I looked at a 1968 colt detective 38 for $700 firmAnd a barreta px4 storm 9mm for $500 obo with an extra mag and the box.

>>65211609The Beretta PX4 Subcompact ( the one pictured) is not a bad firearm, it's relatively rare and is the smaller sister gun to the normal PX4. It isn't fully parts compatible with the larger PX4s. To me it sounds like they're just trying to hawk used guns that have been sitting in the store for a while to someone who doesn't know any better. I am working at a gunstore right now and that's sort of what we have to do because otherwise they'll literally sit there forever. The average time a gun sits in a gunstore is 272 days, which counts things that actually move like glocks that last days, so other guns literally sit there for years for the average to be 272.Both of those are relatively good guns, but not what I would recommend to a beginner, but the PX4 subcompact would do what you want. I personally would recommend the larger PX4 compact since it's rotating barrel does help with recoil and I think it's the finest DA/SA carry gun.

Also half the reason that Colt is 700 is because it's a boomer age special because "they just don't make em like this anymore! I KNOW WHAT I GOT!" Unless you're a collector of short 38s with a hardon for guns of that period it's not great for a first.

Not very good subcompacts (if you wanted a semiauto pistol that size, even in .40 S&W, you'd be better off with an HK P2000SK).So of the two pictured in OP, the Colt Detective is more desireable and also a better investment (will retain value).
