Got a chance to shoot with the steel weight this weekend, what a difference! I can only imagine that this in 9mm would shoot like a laser. Even the +P stuff I had felt like nothing. This may become a “fuck around” competition gun
>We can get the gun in and test accuracy for grouping. That would be the only thing we can do. But the barrel will be loose if the gun is not cocked. When unloaded and not cocked, the barrel will move more freely, as that is how it is designed. But those groups with factory sights at 25 yards, is not unreasonable.I guess I'm going to be making use of that Walther® 30 Day Money Back Guarantee™ and eat about $100 loss

Noob here, Recently got my first handgun, a used P320 RXP XCOMPACT. Yes, I know about the p320 fiasco, but I got it cheap and I am on a limited budget. I have gone to the the range with it twice and put 150 rounds of Blazer 124gr 9mm though it, the gun has worked flawlessly, but I can't seem to hit shit even at 10 yards and I just don't know why. I know the red dot is off zero so I am not even trying to use it, but I cant seem to find a sight picture on the irons that gets me consistently on paper. I think I am mostly hitting very low. Can anyone give me some advice and point me to some references for new pistol shooters? I knew it would take effort to learn but I was not expecting to be this bad. Sadly, I don't have any gun owning friends to mentor me.
>>65220220Your dubs say you should switch to a 220
>>65220239Just slave the red dot to your irons at the start. Work on dryfire, get the trigger to break without moving the dot. Ben Stoeger is a good resource to learn how to shoot, but might be a bit too advanced for you for the moment.
>>65220239For sure you are anticipation flinching which, I think, all new shooters do at first.Getting more dry fire and live fire reps in will help that go away with some time.I watched a lot of YouTube videos to work through finding my grip and practicing trigger controlJoel Park and Hwansik Kim have some great videos on fundamentals as well as advanced techniques

My dry fire has clear flaws but does not feel terrible. I am just baffled at how inaccurate my live fire is. is it normal to struggle to hit anything at 10 yards starting out? Like I put up 6 letter sized paper targets on the target board and I could not even consistently get hits on that. I can see some of the hits going low and hitting dirt but I can't quite figure out why its happening. I know I pull some shots but how bad I am still stumps me. I don't think there is any way the gun can be that far off so its got to be me, right?.Thanks anons. I will watch some more YouTube videos.
>>65220682I dont think the gun could be more than a few inches off at 10 yds. It's gotta be a lot of shot anticipation, and you're pushing the shots hard, subconsciouslyDoing some super slow trigger press reps during live fire may help with that or pressing super slow and talking yourself through the shot going off. Moving to CA soon deciding between a Beretta 92 and Sig P226. I really hate the look of the LCI on the P226 but and wish I could get my hands on an Italian 92s. Is there really much difference between US and Italian made 92s? Also whats the deal with the brigadier slide on the 92? I kind of like the look.
>>65222374>Also whats the deal with the brigadier slide on the 92? I kind of like the look.thicker slide, heavier slide>double thickness where the slides "cracked" and split in two during US military testing (they were shooting proof loads by mistake of Winchester/Olins + a metallurgical issue with that batch of steel), over time a 92 slide may crack there if it was abused, locking blocks break, not enough recoil spring replacements in a extended life span (25k rounds + shooting NATO)>more slide material to add a front dovetail>heavier slide means a heavier gun, changes the recoil impulse since the slide travels slower. Some people don't like it, some people like it better. the brigadiers were more towards competition and also heavy duty use. The US Border Patrol IIRC adopted the 96 Brigadier which was the largest procurement of law enforcement handguns ever at the time. They promptly then shot nuclear .40 S&W loads through them, 155 gr screamers that cracked the frames in 15k rounds or so. At least the slides didn't crack.
>>65222391so they were shooting bubba's pissin hot loads and cracking the frames, gotchawhats your preference? the inox brigadier is pretty sexy. is there a noticeable difference in shooting?
>>65222408I think I prefer the brigadier, mainly for looks but I like feeling the slide ram home and over spring my guns typically. >>65222790The Vertec model slides can also swap irons, it’s just that in CA the brigadier is the one you can get. Unless newer 92s made it onto the roster. I believe you can buy a vertec slide off eBay. Vertec slides would fit in standard 92 holsters while the brigadier is fat

He recommended getting the Georgia ones marked 9-11-01 on the slide, the score master or service master. Peter Dunn who was the head gun smith at Seattle set up the entire manufacturing line at Georgia. He showed me a trick to bend the ejector inwards so it hits the casing more center to kick it out better. Which one my guns has meaning he definitely tuned it up.>>65226201I doubt it since I’ve never heard of a .40 92X P, as people would be shooting .40 instead of 9mm Major through them for competition. Plus the dudes in the basement were using spare/reject parts to make guns and mark them as originals and sell them at the gun show in Puyallup. Peter was the head gunsmith and marked his replacement/repaired slides in a particular way with just DETONICS .45 on them instead of the full combat master rollmark, the guys in the basement were copying his rollmark, so my beat up "parts gun" may have been his work, or the guys in the basement. He also commented that one of my guns was marked 17-4 which was the stainless alloy they used, he said that was one of Detonic's biggest mistakes was telling people what stainless alloy they were using since they were the first company to make a stainless 1911 that worked and did not gall. If they didn't they would have kept it a secret for longer.
>>65226497Also it's the Arizona guns he said don't even bother with.
>>65225658He has a point though, things don't just go up $100 every year. There are plenty of things that haven't gone up much if at all.
>>65226514Would you recommend a Detonics for a first 1911?
>>65226411How come none of these day how many rounds they hold? What is considered hi-cap for 1911?
>>65226480It's such a weird thing to lie about.
Have a few handguns, but not anything easily concealable so I wanted to get a compact (mostly revolvers or full size) I got a shield x 9mm, and I like the way it feels
>>65226514>>65226522Wow this is some great lore>>65226495Not surprising desu>>65226555Not him but I vote yes if you can find a good deal, it was my first 1911. It's just so neat and cute and so unique compared to current offerings on the market.
>>65226555No, they are still very finicky handguns they are cool though, many firsts of the 1911 were done by them>first compact/subcompact 1911 frame, used custom shorter magazines made by a sheet metal company that made airplane parts in Renton/Seattle>first short barrel/slide 1911 (detonic's predates the Colt Officer by a while) >first stainless 1911 that functioned>first bull barrel>first captive recoil spring>first multi recoil spring assembly in a 1911 and I think maybe in handguns as a whole I think. They originally had 3 springs, sometimes 2 springs, but Peter Dunn was adamant that they should have 3. The story of Detonics is interesting. Literally some guy just cutting and welding Colt 1911s until he figured it out how to make a tiny gun and then someone saw it and tried to mass produce it. >>65226568"hi cap" is what people call 2011s that aren't from Staccato/STI/Infinity since those people actually hold the trademark of 2011 (they invented the two piece frame). All the copies have to say "hi cap" "double stack" "2k11" "2311" etc instead of saying 2011 despite them actually being the same 2011 design. for .45 ACP, 11/14 depending on brand of magazine. The STI/checkmate pattern is 11 rounds at a 126mm long mag while MBX sells a 126mm long mag that holds 14. Accuracy X uses the MBX mags.
>>65226658>11/14That's pretty cool. I never knew they made double stack .45 1911's, I only knew about the 9mms. I've come to accept 10 rounds of .45 since that's how many my usp range mags hold. 12 I consider great. Any more than that is extra credit. The same capacity in a 1911 would be sweet.
>>65226687Strayer-Tripp International (STI), widely known as STI International and rebranded as Staccato 2011, is an American firearms manufacturer famous for revolutionizing the 1911 pistol market.Originally founded in 1987 as Tripp Research, the business was renamed Strayer-Tripp International (STI) in 1993 when gunsmith Virgil Tripp and engineer Sandy Strayer partnered. They revolutionized the industry by designing a modular, high-capacity 1911 frame (the 2011 platform). The company branched into two companies, STI and SVI, with SVI focusing on high end bespoke guns while STI was mass production guns. Both companies sold just the frames to custom builders or for DIY 2011s for a time. Strayer-Tripp International became Staccato and SVI Strayer-Vought Inc, rebranded to Infinity. The 2011 can be in any caliber a 1911 was. 9mm, .38 Super, 10mm, .40, .45, .357 Sig, 9x23 Winchester. That was kind of the issue as the same magazine body had to hold all those different rounds. Fitting the tiny 9mm round into that fat .45 double stack mag may be the most issues with the 2011 platform, now the magazines have been figured out but back then they were very finicky. I regret not buying this Wilson Combat Strayer-Tripp frame build.
>>65226687>I never knew they made double stack .45 1911'sAlso. How did you miss my several month project into building several? I built this .45 2011, it's based off my interpretation of what the Les Baer double stack .45s adopted by the FBI should have been with a 2011 frame instead of the Para Ordnance frame. Mine's stainless but I was thinking of having it black nitrided or something.
>>65226705My build, wrong image
>>65226696>widely known as STI International and rebranded as Staccato 2011Ohhhh so that explains where the name Staccato came from. I couldn't figure out why people were so enamored by this new company selling $3k guns. I thought they were out of their minds but now I get it. I've been skipping over this whole conversation but now I'm going to go back and read it all because this is interesting. I'm a casual pistol enjoyer in case that wasn't obvious.
>>65226706You've had this gun since I started posting here. I just got back into handguns since I got a new one recently.
>>65226705Also imo stainless is great. It's clear which parts are dirty so you know what needs to be cleaned.
>>65226708STI had to rebrand since all the companies that they sold 2011 frames to or reversed engineered the 2011 frames and made their own were eating their lunch in 2010s. STIs were mass production guns of a very finicky gun and magazine. Competition shooters did not trust STIs and went with more expensive options. STI rebranded and targeted police contracts with Staccato, police and military flirted with 2011s earlier but never got them reliable enough for service. Delta Force famously tried adopting a .40 S&W 2011, they did not run well. They locked in, fixed the magazine issues with 9mm, refined their manufacturing process with better frames, better machining, and rebranded as Staccato as a premium duty gun. They won contracts, US Marshall adopted them, aggressively demo'd them to police agencies, very aggressive police/retired and veteran discount. They set the standard for 2011s now.
>>65226728>Delta Force famously tried adopting a .40 S&W 2011Didn't hear about that but I know the og delta used 1911s.

>>65226756Interesting. The 2000's were a weird time.
>>65226744I will forever be pissed that I missed the CMP selling the MARSOC 1911s, what a fucking steal and now they're all five thousand dollars.
>>65226784How much were they going for?
>>65226784Same for the M45s and trial M17s
>>65226803I don't remember exactly, but it was like $800-$1000, crazy cheap for what was essentially a professional armorer built 1911 with awesome provenance.
