What went wrong with IVAS?
I've heard Microsoft kept fucking up the design and the soldiers testing it always found it uncomfortable and a distracting mess during operations. Idk how true that is but it seems legit.
Its going through iteration, that takes years. Its night vision is shitty and digital, so if fielded there's a non-zero chance soldiers would have to also carry NODS to wear at night, but I imagine by the time these are actually used operationally they'll have either dramatically improved them or just put an analog tube in them.
>>65235032>Microsoft kept fucking up the designWell they're a company plagued by jeets so...
>>65235025- The IHPS- Integration with the IHPS- Digital pass-through AR tech still doesn't really work that well, and REALLY didn't work that well back in 2022- It's more distracting than helpful- It's expensive- It's heavy, and the average neck can't support that much weight for hours on end
>>65235032>Microsoft kept fucking up the designthat would be on brand for them
>>65235032>Company ran by jeets and hired jeets sucksshocking
>>65235025>>65235091Im surprised no one has made some kinda springy supports that could take some weight off the head and into the shoulders or upper back. Even a pound would make a difference.
>>65235032>arjun lvl display
>>65235025It was based on microsoft's commercial Hololens which is shit the new Soldier Borne Mission Command (SBMC) is based off of Meta/Facebook's Ray-ban Wayfarer.
>>65236320The new SBMC contract is a 3 way prototype phase right now until 2027. Anduril has the prime with (L3Harris, Meta, Oakley, Maxar, Gentex and Qualcomm).Elbit (gross)Rivet (underdog)Id be shocked if Anduril loses they have titans on their team the production and knowhow but cant count out the Israelis to "influence" their way to a win
>>65236350Elbit is basically a evolution of the ENVG-B not a large diparture like anduril and rivet
Multitool problem. By trying to do a bunch of things, the end product is bloated. If they kept it a barebones UI that does basic GPS points you can see IRL it would be useful and light enough that soldiers would easily adopt it.
>>65236397I think the best feature besides waypoint is sub degree instant bullet localization and distance. Minimap third and piped in drone footage.
Shit glows like the sun under an RF emissions map because it's constantly transmitting. Same problem we have with the JBCP. No matter how secure you make the data you can't hide the antenna screaming 24/7 as it responds to every satellite ping.
>>65236447That's a problem if you're out in the middle of nowhere doing recon. For near peer engagements the fighting will be at a massive scale to the point that there will be so much noise in the air that your radio signature will be the least of your concerns as a grunt.
>>65236447they have been able to demonstrate it can triangulate enemy radio signals and task a drone from your eye movements to find and strike it without inputs
>>65235032>I've heardok, from where?
>>65236484Not him but https://www.dote.osd.mil/Portals/97/pub/reports/FY2024/army/2024ivas.pdfThere are more articles but basically too laggy, no night light discipline and headache/dizzyness
>>65235077>Well they're a company plagued by jeets so...The entire company is pajeets prompting AIs to make horrible high level interpreted code. Saying that they are "plagued" is like saying that a house that is on fire has an airconditioning problem. The only way they can get people to upgrade is to get other companies to drop support for older windows platforms, which will long term kill the anglomutt software industry because it is only going to become worse.
>>65236451No it's real quiet on the grey zone. There's a reason only 1 guy has a radio on the squad. Anyone broadcasting is getting hit it's as simple as that. That's why drones went to wire and the operators are separated from the command node.
>>65236716can a simple Bluetooth emitting be enough or does it have to be signals like long distance radios?
>>65238513yes
>>65235032still cant beat the good ol mark 1 eyeball
>>65236397>Multitool problem. By trying to do a bunch of things, the end product is bloated. If they kept it a barebones UI that does basic GPS points you can see IRL it would be useful and light enough that soldiers would easily adopt it.Stupid take. Nearly all of the weight and volume is overhead for doing AR. There's pretty much no weight benefit from trying to make it do more than just navpoints.
>>65235025They'll be cool again once we finally advance enough to get full-face combat helmets.
