Is it really better to put your combat knife in this place? I see this in fiction all the time
No, its extra grabbable for someone in knife range, and it gets in the way of shouldering a rifle. Plus depending on your retention its easy to fall out and lose. Also knives are like shotguns where they are overwhelmingly used as tools rather than weapons. Idk where it started, only time I've seen it done seriously was at the Iranian embassy and that was repurposed aircrew knives for cutting ziplines, and shoulder sheaths in fiction is much older than the 80s. Might have been a Vietnam thing.
>>65235794>its extra grabbable for someone in knife rangeThis has never happened
>>65235863
>>65235820prove it
>>65235794you mount it opposite to your shooting shoulder (switching shoulders is a meme no one does that) so you can grab it with your dominant handI figure a belt mount is better because you're drawing from under a persons natural vision line and you can quickly bring it up and into them from underneath into their armpit or ribs or somethingjust thinking out loud
>>65235909You sound like you suck at knife fights
Yeah it's great, then when you tread on an IED it can blow up into your neck or head and then you don't have to live without your legs and balls. Or even better on the shoulder like that it can be flung a hundred feet into the air and become a hazard for everyone behind you. We tried to make sure when in Afghanistan that we did everything we could to make an IED strike as lethal as possible for us
>>65235956What retarded schizo post is this, randomly sperging out about IEDs when it has no relation to the thread.
>>65235958>Is it better to put a combat knife in this place when going into combat"No here's why">Dude why are you spergingAre you a bot?
>>65235958Its another /pol/tard seething about the military
>>65235956You know nothing about IEDs. Having a good cutting implement, ideally a dedicated belt cutter but atleast a knife, is the most important thing to have when your armored vehicle gets flipped around. You need to cut your belt as fast as possible to not die in a diesel fire. You do not die from IEDs turning worn items into shrapnel, that is pure fantasy.
>>65235788probably easier to grab the knife if you're grappling with someone over a gunchest mount is probably still best though
>>65235788It's easy for others to reach to cut off your cloths if you are hit, this or cutting packaging are the most likely uses.
>>65236019>You do not die from IEDs turning worn items into shrapnel, that is pure fantasy.Nearly every single IED casualty had a broken jaw from their rifle flying up into their face. Paintbrushes (I bet you don't even know what they were for you larping cunt) and another shit tucked into the front of webbing routinely ended up stuck inside face or tearing them up.
>>65236039>Paintbrushes (I bet you don't even know what they were for
>>65236039>Paintbrushes (I bet you don't even know what they were for you larping cunt)I going to assume you are talking about makeup brushes
>>65236041Clearing sand and dirt away when you're uncovering a suspected IED.>>65236179Hi Robert
>>65236039There is a giant difference between a loose item with the space and ability to accelerate to form a projectile, and a WORN item. If the soldier is holding his rifle loosely below his jaw then that is not the same as a magazine or knife attached to his uniform breaking his jaw.
>>65236242Nta but if you're close enough to an explosion that worn items are being turned into projectiles then your definition of "loose" and "fixed" items is probably gonna need adjusting. Tbf id imagine it'll likely need adjusting in relation to your limbs too.
>>65236277How about I adjust your face
>>65236292Like, are you a plastic surgeon? You can do that through the internet? Wow, what a skill set
I just kept a folding knife in my pocket. Used it for cutting motorcycle wires and slashing tires.
>>65235788pat your belly then touch your nose... the knife should be somewhere in the middle in cross draw to downward angle.
>>65235820getting into knife fight range in combat is rarewearing a knife on your shoulder is raremaybe it hasn't happened but that doesn't make it not stupid
>>65235788No. It was a thing from the Vietnam War due to how they set up their Y-harness web gear. In GWOT normal people had knives clipped in their pockets, or by their mag pouches if they were faggots; and you can see the same setups in Ukraine today.
>>65235939to be fair, everyone sucks at knife fights. I have them fairly often with my friends, and even after hundreds of fights I can't be 100% sure that I will win one
>>65235909>switching shoulders is a meme no one does thatIt's not a meme. If you do any urban stuff you absolutely do.I had a Kabar mounted to my flak. As a meme. Used a pocket folder for 95% of shit in the field. So yeah knife on chest rig meme, switching shoulders not.
>>65237165Ok larper
>>65235788No but it looks cool
>>65237165no literally no one does that>training your off shoulder instead of just training to shoot normallycool story bro now 50% of your training is retarded dumb shit. just shoot properly and you'll actually be good at itstupid faggot
>>65235788That's only if you need it as a seatbelt cutter and need something reachable when you're upside down in a burning wreck.
>>65235788My understanding is that it was specifically a pilot thing. I've also seen it as a way to have a knife on a backpack but reachable, you used to see the same thing with phone pouches but that went away with smartphones. Generally speaking any unorthodox method of carry is a way of solving a specific issue and if you're not subject to that issue then the method of carry doesn't have much value.
>>65237380If you're going around a righthand corner you don't have to expose your entire body if you just shoulder bump it to the left. You don't have to switch hands, but it's a thing. Even if you're just keeping your eyes up a street.
>>65237569>>65237165Anyone have that webm of Steven Seagal? You know the one.
>>65237569be fast and good at shootingno one does that stupid bullshit, nobodyyou were trained by retards who never even shot at anyone in real lifeshut the fuck up

I bet your hyperbole impresses the boomers at Applebee's though.>>65236277Not only that, but the overpressure will just dislodge and collapse all your organs on to each other. An ap brush in your jaw isn't really an issue at that point.>>65236310This.>>65237307>>65237380>>65237590>>65237765It's how Marines were taught to do mout with the A2 and A4 for a long time. Lots of us did it, point shooting lefty inside a house isn't difficult.
KNIVES LIKE THIS AND BROWN ROPE WERE A SOLDIERS LIFE LINE.
>>65236039>Nearly every single IED casualty had a broken jaw from their rifle flying up into their face
>>65235788That handle seems to be in the way of grabbing his pistol
>>65235820That you know of.
>>65238189He's right though. Once MRAP's with monoque hulls started becoming the norm, the primary casualties from IED strikes were (1) gunners (they get thrown out, vehicles roll on them, so on) and (2) people getting the shit beaten out of them by equipment that was not properly secured.
>>65235788Yes. I did it on my chest rig in the military. Perfect place for it. Better than a TQ, Ifak, radio or anything else I tried to put there. Probably not good on a plate carrier though>it gets in the way of shouldering a rifleIt didn’t. >No, its extra grabbable for someone in knife rangeSo then shoot him if he tries to grab it instead of just shooting you >>65235820Can confirm
>>65235788I wore my knife on my kevlar vest as a mounted M2 gunner. I hated shit hanging on my belt because things catch on the turret ring or are hard to access when seated. I used to do it camping after I got out because I thought it looked cool. Off-hand shoulder, obviously. Upside down or rightside up, I did them both. Upside it's easier to unsheath, but gravity tugging it down all the time means you have to make sure the strap isn't shit, and honestly it's not difficult to unsheath rightside up. I think the idea is that you can unsheath into a fighting stance in one smooth motion if it's upside down, but who really needs that kind of economy of motion? Not an M2 gunner, not a civilian camper. It was more important to me that it never accidentally fall out.
>>65235820>This has never happenedIf I recall correctly Tu Lam said in one of his vids it happened at least several times when they first started training ground fighting after MMA became a thing, several guys got shot or stabbed trying to grapple with insurgents
>>65237765>>65237590It's a real thing and fine. But fine is about as far as I'd go with it. Ten years ago, hell, just five years ago, people were making out that it was the FINAL FORM OF MOUT AND YOUR PLATOON/MOTHER WILL DIE IF YOU DON'T PRACTICE THIS EVERY DAY. It was, no shit, brought up as the ULTIMATE BULLPUP DEALBREAKER every day on this board. That's hyperbole, but so is OMG THIS IS SO FUCKING STUPID AND USELESS.
