Alot of these pictured weapons are extremely lame looking.

>>65237065Depends on how many shots you expect it to last, and if you plan to run full pressure standard ammo or reduced load pipsqueak ammo.An AK made out of cheese-grade Chinese mild steel, with zero hardening or heat treatment, would fire without blowing up.But the locking surfaces, cam surfaces, and the trigger components would wear out extremely quickly. The worn and galled cam surfaces would cause rough cycling, the bolt would eventually have to be hammered in and out of battery. The main issue would be the soft locking surfaces compressing and suffering "set-back".Within a few hundred round there would be severe issues with expanding headspace, eventually leading to catastrophic case head separation, blowing up the rifle. It would be an entirely different story if only very mild low-pressure ammo was used.A skilled gunsmith could theoretically make an AK out of case-hardened wrought iron and brass, using 16th century methods, and it would work just fine if used with super mild ammo loaded to black powder pressures.
>>65241792Instructions unclear. Passed the Jerome Blake and Praised the 120mm rounds.
>>65236905This picture was used for Gamma World which is pretty funny because Gamma World takes place on post apocalyptic Earth which last time I checked, does not have 2 moons
I am not sure if this counts, but I love the DB-4 from Cyberpunk 2077. It is a bubba'd up double barrel with 18 barrels of tracking rocket rounds and a zip-tied on angled grip.

>>65241302I'm sad that batteries are proving to be the barrier to handheld laser weaponry. We've got a perfectly capable laser generator and Q-switching lets you pulse it but to power the damn thing you'd need to lug around a car battery. I mean we're still at the point where a handheld infantry-level laser frankly still provides no benefit over a conventional weapon for like half a dozen other reasons but I'd at least like to see one at a show.

>>65254947I mean not really, its piece of junk on a scale of a normal 40k game, if you are not fighting demigods and undead robots, Lasguns are genuinely a good weapon. Reliable, can be charged from a fucking campfire, hits like a 50cal, recoil is artificial and can probably be tuned to whatever you find comfortable
>>65255678the campfire trick is a dangerous hack that degrades the battery and will get you flogged if used willy-nilly, the normal way is to hook it up to a solar collector or a running engine.
>>65255693Electrically powered gun that has hundreds of shots per mag is still a sweet deal, its probably far better than a generic autogun most people would be able to get their hands on
>>65255705Lasguns and autoguns are roughly comparable in power. Autoguns have the advantage of only needing 20th century tech to make, while lasguns need advanced foundries for the laser mechanism. They were adopted for their superior logistics, not any great advantage in firepower.
>>65255296Eldar guns really hit that sweet spot of being just alien enough, that you can tell humans didn't make them, but not so alien that you're like what the fuck am I looking at?
>>65255570"fun fact" that probably everyone knows by now, those smartguns in aliens are basically mg42s with some bits stuck on top to make them look futuristic, attached to a steadycam frame, that's it.
>>65255678>hits like a 50cal,Thanks for telling us you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
>>65237060Exposed ribbon cables seems like a bad idea.
>>65255678They're outshone by Dark Age of Technology weapons. Lasguns relative to those are like old muskets you'd have above the mantelpiece. They're still good>Reliable, can be charged from a fucking campfire, hits like a 50cal, recoil is artificial and can probably be tuned to whatever you find comfortablenone of that is invalid, but compared to Plasma, or even moreso, Volkite weaponry:>Possessing a killing power surpassing most armaments of their size, Volkites are little-understood and difficult to replicate on even the most capable Mechanicus Forge Worlds.Volkite weapons can deflagrate organic matter, explosively burning flesh into ash and jetting fire. A direct hit by a Volkite weapon can cause a target to simply combust, often taking nearby comrades with them. The rays fired from Volkite weapons can range from precision thermal beams to arcing rays of exotic energy

Dunno if it quite counts as "scifi" sense it's literally a very rare magic too within a scifi universe, but something about the design of the Caster always felt good. It's both fancy but to me isn't quite overly gaudy either, the lines are pretty smooth. At the same time it's got some weightiness to it, having that sort of loading mechanism and one big shell at a time helps emphasize that it's expensive to run and rare and a last resort, even with normal stuff vs the soul sucking rounds.

>>65236893Deep in the bones and the blood in the soil of Solo Nobre is a history of trying to stay out of things, how to stay left alone. Back on Earth, a devil’s deal for crates and crates of weapons was easy enough for many small countries to make with the reigning superpower states. The bill came later, as it always does. The expensive option was to do it yourself. In the history of arms and armed conflict there are the super star famous rifles, but then there are the quiet ones, the ones built or purchased at a premium and sometimes at suboptimal performance over the devil’s free guns, in a bid to stay out of it, in a bid to stay left alone.Solo Nobre didn’t stay left alone, and maybe she never will. The rifle known simply as “The 18” to most loyal sons and daughters was one of the tools that bought independence with blood, and will buy it once again.-MB
>>65290979I really dont think that the AR18/IRA lore would survive to brigadors time and setting. They dont even remember what the MG3 is called, but they remember that footnote?
>>65290979the handheld m2 is fucking hilarious
The best sci fi guns all have visible features that indicate their use and limitations. Super guns that do everything create real world building and narrative credibility issues, and strangely find that appear realistic will just get you accused of lack of realism. Don't lean into realism.
>>65290994the average person doesn't remember, it's Marvin Beck who wrote it. and it's not an MG3, it's a MG42, 8mm Mauser and all.
>>65236934I like Dread Empire's Fall>FTL only through wormholes with map limited to few dozen systems>No shields>Antimatter powered cruise missiles controlled by sporadic manned small aircrafts>Laser SHORAD working with light seconds distance>no one remembers how to fight>massive fleets working together to defend against salvos
Nautical is great because despite the guns being generally weaker then their real life counterparts, there's still a great display of military tactics, soldiers still look like soldiers.Clone troopers just look like extras given guns, because they have no military training or awareness, and their guns don't give any visual justification for their lack of accuracy and effectiveness.
>>65291032 miyamoto musashi is just really good at military aesthetics, too
>nautical oh nevermind it's a bot
>>65291039Maybe this is hype, but I think he starts from a position of understanding them departs from it into fantasy, instead of starting with something fantastic end trying to make it believable. It's clear he was fascinated with the Russian prototype strategic bombers, he started with something real, and made a deliberate choice to overlook the weight of the fantasy aircraft and give when bird wings. But even these were put where the aerelons normally were. Instead of the aerofoil, the wings flapped, visually unambiguous, spectacular, but beneath that grounded in the soviet airbridge doctrine. You actually see military air bridges a lot in musashi. And you also see a lot of 40mm, because each shot matters, reloading is important, you don't have the star wars issue of 99 shots in a row missing and one shot hitting plot armour. The blaster is not a credible infantry weapon and you see the new star wars use the M2 blaster far more often to reinforce the plot, specifically because the blaster lost credibility in the setting.
>>65290934True, 5.7 can do that perfectly but beyond that its not for a larger calibers, does "radial" delayed blowback fixes this like the CMMG?
>>65290965Thanks anon. That was a one-off. I needed a gun for the manga I was working on so I made that.
>>65291165What's the manga about? And why are there furry girls?
>>65290994You get a hodge podge of info on the older guns, it largely seems like these guns are made from some loose knowledge they found on computers using roughly 20th/21st century industrial techniques, which for a giant space Brazil mining colony makes sense. The tech levels in Brigador/Killers goes from pipe guns to Gamma Ray war crimes so likely the older guns are similar to how we see medieval weapons, likely anachronistic and not authentic but some details are there.
>>65291214It's a sci-fi action manga. The cat girl is from an alien species humans made an alliance with decades ago. I'm not working on this anymore though. Took a pause to work on something else. I haven't even finished the first chapter yet.

Scene from my webcomic but I come with a question for the people here. Me and the artist are two (going on three) chapters into the comic which is pretty much a Resident Evil/SCP-type action/comedy focused on the guards and we've kept the weaponry realistic with a few fancy gadgets. We are doing a design update for guards soon with a new uniform and gear as we're leaning more into super-science type stuff in order to open more potential. I had thoughts about making trying to craft some new gun designs with him from scratch. I've done it before in previous projects cause I'm a heavy nerd for 2000AD and always love the custom weapons they made in stories. This seem like a good idea?
>>65299081 just don't be uninteresting and do a bolter okay if you're not making minatures it doesn't have to be a brick
>>65299081Sure, but give it a purpose. Your mallcops presumably have a budget, so theyre not going to replace their MP9s with the future sci-fi MP9 just for the sake of spending money. Make the new stuff fulfil a role that the existing weapons lacked in, so the transition to them feels natural. Also bear in mind that no matter how elaborate the function of the gun, it still has to interact with human ergonomics.

>>65300024Yes, you are right. Their "pragmatism" serves their autistic desires to squeeze as much out of the things they want to do and achieve. There is no reason to have cowboys with literal six shooters riding gimp horses but that's what grampa did in the early days of Mars and who are you to say we shouldn't?

>>65306302>microsoft era crapBro, Bungie went to Microsoft pre Halo CE release. The last non-Microsoft Halo was fucking Marathon Infinite on the Macintosh. I agree with your general sentiment about the gun design, but it's down to specific personalities that were into guns and left, not some corporate conspiracy.
