You can BASICALLY do this, with toggle locks (so called 'knee-joint' mechanisms), like you'd see on the early Winchester/Henry rifles (manual repeater), the Luger (semi-automatic pistol), the Maxim/Vickers guns (machineguns), a few cannons, etc.However, you can't just let the 'joints' sit there and freeball, there has to be something that aligns and supports them so that they stay put, so that the action, you know, stays locked, and that the pressure doesn't take the path of least resistance all over you, like a LiveLeak vid.
Also, that would be a REALLY inefficient and janky take on a toggle lock, Hugo Borchardt, who designed the Borchardt pistol (which Georg Luger turned into the sleeker and more practical Luger pistol), already made toggle-locked single-shot target shooting rifles, and they look like this.Pic related is the closest (non-retarded) thing to the notion in OP's image, because otherwise it's just a needlessly complicated and much less good take on a simple break action.
