It's not 2008 anymore. There are plenty of functional and reasonably priced AR10s out there. Hell, even Poormetto's Sabre-10 is proving to be surprisingly reliable and accurate so far and they can be had $1200-$1700 depending on the variant.

They just aren't as easy for Billy to garage build with dog shit, dirt cheap parts and have a functional sample.

I really, really want a M110 clone but those cost a few organs.

>>
>>65245334
Not really a meme but consider your surroundings. You might have a few long sightlines but are you really going to need a carbine to fight with over 300-400 yards? Even 200 is pushing it. If you think 300+ yard shots would be regular in whatever scenario you dream ip then i think its time to step up to 6.5 or .308. For me where i live a 7.62x39 gun would handle everything but incase it doesnt i have a spr build. The expensive flavor of the month rounds are cool but i like to keep things pretty standard. Have you ever shot beyond 600 yards? Do you reload?
>>
>>65245334
its legit- specifically for modern short AR barrels. It is a stop-gap for when 5.56 falls short due to drop in pressure or stability. It also makes sense of modern combat scenarios and this anon >>65245373 is correct. Past 300m you probably should be looking at other platforms or calibre to use. Yeah, you really dont want a light singlestage in there. The propensity of people to light off a round early with a light singlestage, compromise the drop safety and suck reliability out of the rifle really relegates them to performance comp guns only.

If you have range certainty than 308 is a superior cartridge. If you are making snapshots/ukd shots there is a band where 6.5 buys you more distance but 6mm arc almost overlaps with that distance in a lighter easier to track platform. 6.5 compounds the AP/Payload issues of 7.62 and the energy is meh. Just like people conflating 7" 300blk performance with 16" 300blk performance or 300blk numbers with a 9" can to oal numbers of a 4" can, a lot of 6.5 data and hype comes from sunhoodie man who is rocking a 26lb 6.5 bolt gun with a 24" barrel which I simply do not care about.

308 has a much more mature/available projectile scheme, better barrel life and better platform reliability. So selling a platform you like, with a fat stack of plinking ammo for gainz that may not apply to you and real downsides that do apply to you? smfdhsuh

Permanent wound cavity is smaller, although with the correct bullet the temporary cavity can be quite large. I'm more partial to 308 for critter purposes, even though you have to be a bit pickier on bullet selection. Really love 6.5 otherwise (have barrels for both). In some cases it's nearing 308 pricing outside bulk m80

If the AR is big enough to make a dot look small, you're probably not taking advantage of the barrel length on that rifle. Aesthetically, this is why ACOGs are a top choice on a wide selection of barrel lengths (functionally too). LPVOs look decent but aren't worth the weight penalty if you're only getting 8 or 10x mag at the high end. Skip to MPVO, determine what end of the spectrum suits your environment (eg 2-12x or 3-18x). I almost went with a T6Xi in 2.5-15x, but the 3-18x was virtually the same weight and size so I jumped up. Next you'll have to choose your mount. There is no choice in mount height tho - 1.5" or bust

>Past 300m you probably should be looking at other platforms
14.5 UPR doesn't go transonic until ~800y and is easily 1000y capable, even with wind. Terminal ballistics at that distance? I don't even know her and while I'm sure it's not great, it's NOT area fire. We are striking flesh.
>expensive flavor of the month rounds are cool but i like to keep things pretty standard
The golden age of AAC 77gr for 50cpr are over - spending an extra 7cpr over M193 for ammo that I can push to 1000y and also blast drills with was the holy grail for standardization. My stocks are low and I've decided to transition back to M193 for ~80% of what I buy. But know what to expect from nicer ammo has been a gamechanger, and I am purposefully stacking 77gr & 85gr long-range ammo alongside M193.

I wanted a flatter shooting, lighter recoiling round because range certainty is something I cannot count on and quick followup shots have saved me from a whiff on more than one occasion because I'm not a perfect epic elite sniper, and you don't always have time to pull your rangefinder out. I want a single "full size rifle cartridge" gun which is also my primary hunting rifle.

Anyway, it's done now so I need a new AR10. As light and accurate out of a cold barrel as I can get. I will not be firing more than 3 rounds consecutively unless I'm at the range so heat stringing isn't an issue for me. I'm not going to be stacking thousands of rounds for this rifle - I'll keep a few hundred on hand. What should I buy?

BTW I have ~8k rounds of 5.56 stacked and a 12" + 16" so that angle is covered. The 6.5 is for a more specific use case, at longer range, and 6.5 is still much more available with a better bullet selection for hunting than 6mm ARC.

we're literally having the same conversation. I'd love to explore the periphery. Most recent class I took was a shooting-centric anyways (NV1 with Kinetic Consulting), and it seems like the next step is TUSC or even Milsim West. Which, while immersive, are still shooting-centric. What classes on indirect fires, sensing, and area denial do you recommend for civs?
>>why are we still 5.56 at 1k posting
it's /arg/ man, these guns can do cool things. And I get it - me slinging 85grs with a 14.5 is not 'overmatch'. I don't even think 6 ARC truly even achieves overmatch against 5.56 (I don't think you do either). What's cool though is the massive weight difference between brass cases and NAS3 cases, which the 85gr uses. You cut the weight of the biggest part of a cartridge (case being like 85%+ of the weight) in half.

My lgs has a bunch of their stuff. bcgs, chainsaw receiver sets, etc.

Is this worth? Always see people recommend this bcg for suppressed shooting

Geissele’s the only one? Weird, what did they do with their BCG?

Are they actually making these again? I don't think I've ever actually seen one for sale outside of a place like Tacswap. Anyways, lower backpressure cans render whatever benefits things like this and the LMT BCG largely irrelevant with even a passing attempt at tuning your gun. Also, Shoafire is gay, Jewish and Californian.

Bretty cool. Thanks. I wonder if I could make a metal sleeve that would fit inbetween it and the lower so that a buttsmash attack wouldn’t just sheer the adjustment pin

Is a 4x ACOG overkill on a 10.3"? Going shooting tomorrow and I wanna try something different than my shitty trijicon red dot

I haven't seen pictures of the bcg yet but I'd assume they either went mutant with a larger bolt face, or are using exotic materials

yuh I think it was modified by the mompop shop I got it from- it has a SOCOM profile barrel instead of the typical gov/m4 profile from the box. Just overgassed, but I already have an adjustable gasblock that I am too lazy to put on there
