>>65245913>Your takeshit
>>65245913The incredible part of a nuke sub is that motherfuckers actually crew the damn things. You could probably get me inside one -but you would never get the claw marksoff the hull.
>>65249163>The incredible part of a nuke sub is that motherfuckers actually crew the damn things.they’re not anymore significantly cramped or sunlight-deficient than an above water ship. I bet they sway less actually. They get good food too. What’s your problem with it?
>>65249430For some it would be the people, for others it would be the sea itself, I fucking hate being anywhere near the deep sea, even if the ocean is a beautiful place. If you are stuck onboard with some lame retards, it could be a hellish deployment.
>>65249163>You could probably get me inside one ->but you would never get the claw marks>off the hullkekdiesels are way way waaay worseI've been reading an autobiography by an octogenarian RN sub skipper (probably dead now) and he said one of the best things about SSNs was that the overabundance of power meant they could actually live like people inside, instead of stripping down to skivvies and vests like cavemen
>>65249460But anon, you are the lame retard
>>65245913Why hasn't anyone developed amphibious landing submarines so that we can send 800 Marines to the Spratly Islands with all the benefits of stealth and survivability and none of the costs of the shitty new LST?
>>65249430NTA, but something about being with a pressure vessel under water gives me the heebie-jeebies. Just knowing that I'm on the surface even I can't directly tell via a window or something is comforting.
>>65245913I fucking played the shit out of this as a kid
>>65250951Because that would require an much of highly trained and expensive nuclear qualified Sailors to put the marines ashore for their traditional completely ineffective massacre that will later be mythologized and used to triple down on amphibious assault despite it obviously being obsolete, instead of a couple retarded BMs and a single very stressed out EN. Basically any dollar spent on the gangerenous and comically ineffective deformity known as the marine corps is a dollar saved for the Navy. We should look into writing BOTE on the side of refrigerator boxes and seeing if they just hop in those and stop bothering everyone with their retardation, sort of like you would do with an autistic house cat.
>>65251920A dollar wasted*
>>65250049on this website we all are
>>65249163what do sub crews actually do when they're not on deployment? Like what does blue do when gold is on the ship.
>>65245913>>Los Angeles >as cool as it gets Oh you mean that variant of the Glenard P Lipscomb class? LA's are far too long to be as skinny as they are. Still not a bad looking boat but not perfection like the Sturgeon. But the 688i? Ugly as sin, like a anorexic butch lesbian who cut her tits off>>Sturgeon and Permit >too fat Permit? YesSturgeon? No, Sturgeon is tastefully thick. Excellent shaping with perfect proportions, it just looks right. The Sturgeon class is aesthetically the ideal American SSN.>>Skipjack >too short That's not their problem, it's the retarded looking sail.>>Seawolf >too tryhard, the preferred submarine for the edgy teenagerSeawolf looks fine, better than the LA.>>Virginia >temu Seawolf It has better proportions than the Seawolf.>>Soviet SSNs >lmaoNothing but uggos until the Sierra. But they don't belong in this discussion.
>>65252402Training and then normal navy paperwork stuff, all the sub bases have have extensive sim facilities that allow to them to drills that they couldn't do on the real sub since surfacing and such to practice would defeat the purpose of doing deterrence patrols
>>65252591That and you can run scenarios that could esaily result in the loss of the boat if done for real.
>>65252402In the '90's, it was qualifications, training, heavy drinking during working hours, heavy drinking outside of working hours, and leave. I suppose these days they don't do the heavy drinking during working hours anymore.>>65252591Some of those trainers were pretty fancy. I don't think that I'm violating OPSEC by mentioning the wet trainer, as a quick Google search turned up videos. I remember having a lot of fun at that one. I could tell some stories. The ship control trainer was also pretty interesting, as it was a fairly accurate mockup of the control room mounted on hydraulic pistons to mimic ship movement, depending on sort of maneuvers were being performed. It could even simulate sea state convincingly.>got to see how much of an up angle it took to trip the limit switches and shut down the trainer once>getting that much of an up angle on a real boat would not be advisable>will always remember feeling blood going to my head, looking over my left shoulder, and seeing the chief of the watch dangling from the shelf above the bcp
>>65252862The one with the conning tower and projector screens to practice coming into port had me giggling when I got a tour of one of the sub bases. Unfortunately most of the sim rooms were in use so we couldn't go through most of them, nor get the actual sub tour like we were supposed to since they were rearming a sub at the docks and we weren't cleared to get that close during the procedure.
>>65252577>LA's are far too long to be as skinny as they areDo you want the sub to top out at 15 knots? No? Then you make it long and skinny.
>>65252886>Do you want the sub to top out at 15 knots? No? Then you make it long and skinny.I'm talking pure aesthetics. If you want to talk about capabilities then there is no point comparing older generations of boats to newer generations, because then the only real debate is between Seawolf and Virginia.
>>65251571Me too, i used to 1v1 my friends over a 1200 baud modem.
>>65252886>Do you want the sub to top out at 15 knots? No? Then you make it long and skinny. The skinnyness is to save on weight since a narrower pressure vessel can be made lighter.
>>65254138NAYRT but beam-length ratio also affects speed for all shipsalthough since for surface ships much of this is due to wave action, the improved performance is probably much less for submarines
>>65252577you have to be 18 to post here
>>65254130It was surprisingly user friendly to do so at the time. As long as nobody knocked the fucking phone off the rubber cups.I got pirated games that way, Cardinal of the Kremlin DOS matter of fact.https://www.old-games.com/download/4192/cardinal-of-the-kremlinMemories...
>>65254161Because I know zero about subs, why isn't there a circular battle-sub?
>>65249163>You could probably get me inside one ->but you would never get the claw marks>off the hull.Ive been here for too long not to think this means you'd fuck one and you'd also scratch it up while doing so.
>>65255535explosions are more powerful underwater
>>65255535you mean "spherical", presumablyit's just about impossible to manoeuvre
>>65251920>put the marines ashore for their traditional completely ineffective massacre that will later be mythologized and used to triple down on amphibious assault despite it obviously being obsoleteGenuine chuckle. The Marines are always obsolete until you need them.
