Now we're talking.

Ey yo Gilliam has the 5.5lb 9969 Level IV on mega blowout. $200 a plate down from about $500. Uses SiC-TiB2 ceramic from Adept, is also rated for 5.56 M995 tungsten AP.
https://www.gilliamarms.com/products/model-9969-lightweight-no-spall-multi-curve-ceramic-armor-plate
Either website mistake or they need these gone. 5.5lb is VERY light for SiC Level IV (the Hesco 4600 was shitting the bed at 6lb...) so this isn't a good sign, coupled with the fact the test reports show much heavier plates than what's presently being sold.

Nice lamp.
Pic unrelated I dunno what the fuck's going on with Gilliam but he's running deep discounts on almost all his shit. Would be a very good time to buy testing samples.
Also you can put purchases $200 or more on a 12-month payment plan with ShopPay at 15% interest. A pair of 9969s can be financed for about $36 a month. I don't understand why people would do that, but they do offer payment plans over in Ukraine for armor too (steel plates included) so I guess people are doing it.

Can you put lamps on 12 month payment plans?

This dude is seriously taking the loss bad on the 9969s. They were originally $500 a plate and he's selling them for over half off? Using exotic strike faces from Adept? TiB2 is expensive shit. The Archon shares the same strike face and is $580 a plate.
I'd say wave off from most of Gilliam until this gets figured out. 1023 and 8002 are probably okay since they're not on this mega sale, but IMO, this is giving me 4SAS4 flashbacks. Dude is sub-Militech on a lot of these prices and he's not a big-time Chinese factory able to work in bulk.

Make that sixteen. HUDSONGUNNER still has 2014MCs in stock for $240 a set. He's being pretty fruity with that "IV+" designation. Per pic related the 2014G, which is literally just the single curve version of this, is strict Level IV. One shot M2AP and it's cooked. No special threat testing. If you want multi-hit from lesser rifle threats then spacing is gonna have to be real wide.

Hi gearfags. I finally have an rpk, but the smersh rpk rig seems nonexistant now. I've seen some insanely priced double 40 round pouches shipping from Ukraine, and then there are the comblock surplus which won't work on modern lbe.
I want to stay belt/lbe style for prone, with pouches that fully enclose the top of the mag for dirt protection.
Has anyone seen good options post 3 day smo?
For reference I live mountain rural, use a sadf battle jacket for 556, don't wear plates since movement>all in this environment.
>>
>>65253980
>don't wear plates since movement>all in this environment.
Don't sleep on ultralight PE plates. They're unsuitable for urban because of the M855 problem, but mountain rural sounds like hunting rifles and a pair of Hesco 3801s would weigh sub-4lb (assuming you're a 10x12) and stop most rounds there easy.
If you can't swing that scratch, Gilliam Helions or Militech RF1.
>>65253827
If you're only up against basic handgun threats, soft is preferable to hard armor due to the coverage advantage.
>>
>>65254045
Thanks I'll check those out. I used to have esapi but was stolen in a move, and still have 3a soft.
On a doctrinal aspect I think armor is only a high factor when you have friends and access to fast trauma medical. In a situation where I'd want armor, a leg/shoulder/gut shot would be just as fatal as vitals, but slower. My world is vertical and full of concealment and hard cover so I try to max mobility.
>>
>>65254127
>On a doctrinal aspect I think armor is only a high factor when you have friends and access to fast trauma medical.
On the contrary, stopped shots to a good plate basically don't count provided BFD is low enough. Lower the BFD, the better the odds you'll be able to ignore the hit. People in Ukraine are rolling deep in high coverage soft armor because the medical situation is shit and frag is heavy.
>In a situation where I'd want armor, a leg/shoulder/gut shot would be just as fatal as vitals, but slower
Can't armor everything, especially on a tight weight budget.
>My world is vertical and full of concealment and hard cover so I try to max mobility.
Maybe the Hesco 3801LV (thinned, will go over 44mm backface deformation absent soft armor. Actual "needs soft armor to even do its job" version also exists so confirm in writing with vendor which one you're getting) or the upcoming ULWSAPI (3x 7.62x39 MSC at up to 62mm BFD, weighs about a pound standalone) may be more suitable.
The cool guy plate is the 0.52" thick, 4.1lb VelSys PBZSA good for 7.62x51mm M80 / M855A1 / BZ API but it has a thin backer, weak multi-hit, and because of said thin backer can probably be brute forced by a .300 winmag or similar.
>>
>>65254191
Thanks for the effort post anon. Looking at ukraine for parallels is good. I'll check these plates out.
>7.62x51mm M80 / M855A1 / BZ API
My threat profile is browns fleeing a collapsing denver with dracos or 55grn ball out of a 10.5". I'm a backcountry surveyor so my terrain knowledge and conditioning is pretty unrivaled and that's the crutch I'm leaning on.
What do you think thermal scope or plates first? I already have cans.

ISO pouch recommendation
2 molle column
Needs to be able to hold 1L nalgene, but also can work well as a magazine pouch, so quick access IE hook loop top flap with pouch body short enough to result in exposed mags. Perhaps adjustable retention so it can be sized down for mags when not carrying water.
I'm considering this, but interested in other options:
https://www.beezcombatsystems.com/products/universal-mag-pouch?variant=43926609658103

Goal is to replace the ATS Upright 2 column GPs I've got at the 2 and 10 o clock position on the belt rig. The ATS pouches work well for 1L nalgenes putting water and weight on the front of the rig, but being zip clamshell pouches they're obviously not good for mags. I want the pouches in that position to be flexible for either mags or water, picture related.
>>
>>65254361
>My threat profile is browns fleeing a collapsing denver with dracos or 55grn ball out of a 10.5"
So 7.62x39mm MSC is in play, because draco. Are you positive they aren't using green tip (M855) at all? It's popular on social media with "ARP Americans" and will generally give most all-PE plates trouble. You have some wiggle-room since velocity will be low out of a 10.5" but, general rule of thumb, you cannot trust a Hesco to exceed its rating. Many of their plates are lightest-in-category for a reason. There are all-PE plates which stop M855 (LTC 24855, Combat Systems RF2, SAS Spectra prototype) but they're rare as hell, heavier, and often credential blocked. Probably better with 3811LVs or similar with a ceramic strike face.
If it's just 55gr you're good.
>What do you think thermal scope or plates first? I already have cans.
Survivability onion says thermal scope. Don't get detected (by virtue of detecting the enemy first) comes before don't be penetrated.
>>

And now time for the other side of the plate autism spectrum, away from sub-2lb PE plates that lose to M855. I updated the Chinese plate infographic with the EDUN Tactical "NIJ-IV+++" on Taobao. Commercially available SiC+PE Chinese plate, 1.44" thick / 8.8lb for a 10x12, rated for 1x 12.7x108mm B-32 API at 2,722ft/s with 50-meter standoff.
Price is apparently $1,020/set. This is the only not-credential-blocked-to-hell .50 AP-rated plate available. It's untested but the numbers check out on paper.
Credit goes to the Taobao master anon for finding it.

The admins stationed Iron Golems at the ports to detect goods from the Russian faction. The Chinese faction, the Jammers, led by XXXDipswitchXXX and PhillyFent6969, have minecart tracks to get around the golems and get directly to the villagers, but they're secret and you need to be invited to join their faction.
Otherwise you will need a runner from Turkey to disguise the Zenitco diamond pickaxe as a chicken jockey so it can slip past the golems, but you might get caught and BANNED.

If a cop or even just a regular dude died wearing a 4SAS4 and it was because of the plate failing against a rated round, 100% Highcom would have been done in like Second Chance was in '03. I think people nowadays are more visceral than they were back then. Reaction would be nasty. Thousands of people were sold those shitplates and they were told they were basically just the 4SAS7 but with a different name. Apex probably would have needed to skip town.
I mean, shit, RMA dude got doxxed and death threats because he sold a pair of 1093s to Gendron and they barely played a role in the Tops shooting. An expired IIIA vest from a department trash can would have done the same.
>I just think buff could have done more to prove the plates were faulty
He didn't wanna lose that affiliate money and for some reason he's scared as shit of bogus legal threats. Is there something that would come up in discovery?
>Highcom really didn't suffer because of it and reddit still loves rma.
1. Highcom's still a penny stock. Rumor has it Chase Tactical lost millions because of the first Buff vid. They would still be producing 4SAS4s to this day if that didn't happen.
2. Reddit surprisingly doesn't if you stop counting four dudes that post daily, one of which is a literal RMA employee who runs defense everywhere. Other people ho-hum and go along because they don't want to lose their updoots.
3. If RMA dude had legit arguments, he'd be running defense here. Why is he MIA? He's on almost every other forum.

Know anything about ratchet style competition belts? Ie kore/others? Looking for something fairly lightweight that doesn’t rely on belt loops/velcro. Think like an Alice belt.

Alright. RMA 1155 (old version) versus the Caliber AV2 steel plate in pic related. I don't even like steel but I honestly think the AV2 could be the better overall call.
1. Lighter by 0.8lb.
2. Half as thick so it conceals easier. They're both multi-curve.
3. The 1155 loses to two 7.62x51mm and it's done that twice now (other time in some gun rag article). The AV2 can handle a boatload because it's steel.
4. Steel plates produce lower BFD generally.
5. Steel plates do not give two shits about shot spacing unless they're overhardened and brittle. The RMA 1155 shits the bed if shots are too close, as ceramics do.
6. RMA 1155 is not required to work if it is dropped more than two times from four feet with a 10lb weight on the back. AV2 can be dropped ten, twenty, forty, sixty times.
7. The AV2 has a polyshield spall coating which is UNEQUALLY effective.
8. The RMA 1155 has a standing NIJ permanent removal and cannot be trusted to stop M2AP for UNRESOLVED SAFETY CONCERNS, thereby making its extra protection over the AV2 moot!
9. They both stop M855A1 at 3,000ft/s.
10. I asked Neetmaster like two months ago to find one example of M2AP being used in a shooting in the US. He hasn't found shit.

Not really my scene. Only thing I know about them is that people running VR-80s in shotgun competitions love em.

Self correction, the old RMA 1155 had a multi-curve version but the 1155 we dunk on is SINGLE-CURVE, which is INFERIOR to the Caliber AV2. Hah!

The TAC joint which made those 14lb Level IV steel plates back in the day?
Back during the Obummer years there was a shitload of popup shops selling steel plates. Inevitably some of those were mom and pops.

I see nobody has risen to the RMA 1155's defense against a literal who steel plate.
That's actually really sad. Mr. Waldrop named his company after his three daughters and this is the defense. He put his heart and soul into the 1155's "polyethylene composite" backer... and he gets nothing?
I'mma pour one out for the 1155. :(

Far as I'm aware the Level IV steel plates worked, they were just obnoxiously heavy and spalled. 12 pounds bare, 14lb with coat.
For comparison, ceramic plates that legitimately stop .50 caliber APs are between 8.8-9.25lb using modern SiC-PE layups.

>the lore
Couple of things that caused it.
1. NIJ requirements never had a real drop test prior to 0101.06 in 2008, so you could have plates that fall on concrete one time and are no longer effective. Ex, Highcom 4SAS4's original single curve version was legitimately 0101.04 certified in '08.
2. The above issue caused a shitload of partially-true, partially-false fuddlore that ceramics are ridiculously fragile.
2A. It's a little known fact that by-the-book Level IVs are single strike only, and people have reported penetrating cheap, basic IVs by just putting two M855 in a 4" circle or similar. You can see similar with the ~8.3lb RMA 1155 in >>65255918, albeit with 7.62x51mm FMJ at 100 meter standoff.
3. Steel plates legitimately do not give two fucks if you run them over with a truck or throw them out the window of said truck onto the freeway at 80 miles per hour. They do not give a shit if you stack hits directly on top of eachother, unless they're over-brittle.
4. Ergo all the survivalists shitting their pants that Obummer was gonna collapse the US were buying steel.
5. This created a powerful market which spawned AR500 themselves, because steel plates are extremely cheap.
Then by about ~2013 people started to realize ceramics certified to 0101.06 are actually fairly resilient if you don't treat them like shit and steel started to lose ground due to the spall issues, various quality control scandals, REALLY shady marketing, shills, etc.
6. Little known fact. Steel is still a plurality of plates sold to civilians in the US. The survivalist mentality hasn't subsided and they have genuinely improved over time, although spall is still shit and they weigh too much.

Also I did a quick pixel count and if you assume the plate is legitimately 10x12, the spacing between shots #1 and #2 is about 3", so that was a fair hit and the RMA 1155 had no excuse losing to that second hit of Tulammo. Every single Level III plate has to stop six 7.62x51mm M80 with 51mm (2") minimum spacing inside the 6x8" "fair hit box", and without 100 meter standoff. An 8.3lb plate failed less than a third of that.

I'm a tourist. I bought some euro milsurp (dpm, cce) field jackets for the fashion so what kind of pants should I be styling them with? besides something basic like jeans
