Have we lost the plot? In a world of gucci rifles an optics I still find myself enjoying the old clones most.
with the price of 5.56 i just don't shoot any of my ARs nowi feel so broke compared to 5 or 6 years ago bros
>>65250419>>65250419Massive advances in barrel steel, bolt steel, buffers, barrel nuts, suppressors, etc etc etc. Old guns are fun but for combat there is no denying that the current suite of advancements haven't propelled the M16 into being literally the deadliest, most reliable and psychotically accurate combat rifle currently employed in the history of mankind.
>>65250432I've transitioned to mostly shooting 9mm out of pistols now. I've got a PCC for the rifle feel but it still feels wasteful to shoot 9mm out of a PCC. Things are rough man. Ammo should be subsidized but we live in a gay country
>>65250419I had phases when I first got into guns, but that kinda faded after a few years. Now I just have a decent rifle, a few pistols, a few 22s and a shotgun. Plenty of ammo but it's more out of precaution, I don't actually shoot a ton because like >>65250432 said, shit's expensive.2016-2018 or so felt like an unusual time. There was still a little bit of imported AK stuff going on and kit builds were still affordable. Ammo was comically cheap right up until COVID. Everything else was kinda mid tho. Optics were definitely worse than now, gucci AR stuff was kinda expensive and nothing was quite standardized but I do think there were more companies trying to compete with their standard, so shit like rails seemed cheaper. Quality pistols seem to get cheaper and cheaper tho now
My income went up significantly in the last five or so years, I shoot weekly. Like you say OP, the old school clones are some of the best.
>>65250419I feel ya. old guns are fun.
>>65250432If you think .556 is bad try shooting 7.62x39 or .545. The shit is almost the same price these days. I really miss the steel case era guys
>>65250419Any tips on adding wear on a A1 lower coated with fresh moly resin?I was thinking of using the lower to shovel loose dirt w/ small rocks
>>65250419Ive gone back even further All i basically shoot now is 22lr,muzzleloaders and this sharpd rifle.Last year, 3 months, ive probably shot past around 1k rounds through it.Some of my pieces of brass are on their fourth use in the gun
>>65251056>Any tips on adding wear on a A1 lowerYeah, go train hard with it. Over and over and over again.Fake wear is cringe.
>>65250419>In a world of gucci rifles an optics I still find myself enjoying the old clones most.Whatever floats your boat, man. The first rule of gun safety is to have fun. Iron sights are objectively fucking trash compared to modern options though.
>>65251828Then my upper would be more worn then my lower. The whole point of this is to match my nodak lower to the m16 parts kit.>train hardWhy?I'm not some larping faggot. I'd rather just plink at steel plates on my property.
>>65250446None of that matters when your rifle sits in a closet for 99.99% of it's life.
>>65250419The old aesthetics just sit right
I can enjoy my retro builds without losing sight of why advances have been made.
>>65252037That's a yikes from me
>>65250782What's up rug guy. Wtf happened to that lower?
>>65250419The first rule of guns is to have fun.
>>65250432I get summers off and I've been shooting my .22s weekly or more these past two weeks. I'd love to shoot more long range, but the cost is stupid high and I don't won't to burn through my stash if there's going to be an ammo shortage.
>>65252283cutting torch. it's an export A1 that came back as a parts kit.
>>65252322This, I think the past 5-6 years of min-maxing combined with unrest and whatever else has made people forget about guns being fun above all else.Realistically you're never going to be defending your compound from looters, hell you're even unlikely to ever even need a gun to defend yourself. But please do, it never hurts.People are on the edge and you can feel it in our political discourse. But the ironic thing is, nothing ever happens.
>>65252428Weird, from where?
>>65252744Malaysia, most likely
>>65252264You'll grow out of it when you get older.
>>65252108So it will matter for the other 400 hours? Sounds important, then.
>>65250419history has proven that gun tech has peaks and valleys, but simple shit will be timeless
>>65253298Seems like you have reading comprehension issues.
>>65250419nah, you're just a little older and done with the fun that can be had in accessorizing and started simplifying again.
>>65251056You should have bought a gray lower if you wanted to weather it. Trying to weather a lower sprayed with moly resin will just show the black anodizing unless you do deep weathering. This will look unnatural and gay.
>>65256135But it's not black anodized. It started out as a 80% nodak lower. And I bought 3 shades of moly resin grey to mix to get my colors matched.
>>65252721Fuck I regret selling my m16a1 clone for a tactical timmy m4. I thought there would be chimpouts because of ICE but you're right. Nothing ever happens.
>>65256135Bet this guy kills tremors
I would totally be into a vanilla A2 but unless it's select fire it seems like it would just be like an airsoft, essentially. With pistols it's different because even if the markings aren't 100% accurate to military weapons it's close enough that the suspension of disbelief works
>>65256407Turns out the feddies were the ones doing the chimping.
>>65250468I realized this too. Had a Warscorp 9 intended for local PCC matches which for all intents and purposes is pretty cool, but ended up selling it because why shoot a direct blowback, non PDW PCC when I could still use that same ammo to train with my carry gun. They’re good tinker toys but it’s just not worth it anymore. May as well just save for more ammo, an MP5k or TP9.
>>65251799Nice.
>>65252322The first rule of spotting scopes is don't buy shitty scopes.
>>65250419It really is hard to beat. Especially an A1 style rifle. Lightweight, accurate, reliable and well balanced. A hit in any shooter's book.
>>65256135That is a lot of gun but damn that guy must be short.
