How does actual delivery of gravity nukes like the B61 even work? Is this just a one way trip for the pilot? Is he expected to outrun the nuclear blast after dropping the bomb? And given how close you need to get to deliver it, isn't it incredibly risky compared to a cruise missile? Wouldn't you at the very least give it a JDAM-ER kit or something?

TL;DR: I think gravity nukes are retarded, change my mind.

Time delay fuse, parachute retarded. B-61 nukes are tactical not strategic when deployed from a stealth aircraft.
The B-61 is dial a yield and the mission commander will be very invested in getting his pilot and aircraft home safely.

It's mostly a political exercise for leaders in the Benelux, Italy, and Germany.
American missiles are scary. American bombs are still scary, but not as much.
The average voter is retarded.

Technically all nukes are gravity nukes.

Toss bombing

Go play Nuclear Option and see how effective they are.

>time delay fuse, parachute retarded
Tell me more, those two go together right? Can't get an airburst otherwise. And dropping it to the ground where it can either be destroyed or is damaged may make it not go boom when desired.
>tactical not strategic
It feels like a population center or industrial site is more difficult to defend than an army formation or base with all the air defense bells and whistles. I'd double prefer the standoff weapon in that case.

Oh right I forgot about the Pershings. Never made sense to me that you'd prefer the less scary nuclear deterrent over the more scary one when you're on the target list anyway.

There was also the nuclear tomahawks.

You do know gravity bombs can carry on for miles on intertia and dont drop straight down, right?
You do know even the earliest nooks were fused fir airburst and didnt ground inpact like a loony toons cartoon, right?
You arent stupid, right?

>my every fucking nuke gets BRRRT'd out of the sky
It's so maddening. They should include an impact fuze for at least detonating upon interception. Granted, combatants in NO are peer adversaries, I don't expect soviets/russians to be able to intercept a small gravity bomb midair.
>>
>>65250794
The B61-12 is relatively low yield, only 50 kt max. Even subsonic bombers like B-52s can deliver it safely as long as they drop it from high altitude and turn around.

True, it's really non-credible, I bet it's never even happened before

Pershings really scared the Russians because they could be accurately targeted at Soviet high-level command posts, which were instrumental in deciding when and where the OMGs would be unleashed... one of the very few decisions that was up to the generals (most were preordained by THE PLAN) specifically because it couldn't be made in advance. Losing those command posts at the wrong time could unravel an entire invasion plan.

So, the KGB and other state tools went full-out against Pershing, making sure to get all of their 5th columnists and useful idiots in Europe bleating from the same page. That's why so many Europeans were so angry about Pershings: not because they were more dangerous to the civilian population, but because their Soviet handlers were *really* upset about them.

Youtube has a pretty complete library of movies that teach you how to toss bomb, over the shoulder bomb, laydown bomb.

for me it's the high altitude toss
CEP doesn't matter when you're lobbing 700kt weapons

Yes.

The what?
>>
A B-29 "outran" a nuclear blast
What makes you think a jet can't?
There's been literally hundreds of nuclear tests carried out by air-dropped bombs and none of them have resulted in the aircraft being taken out by its own payload
>>
>>65254177
NTA, but the Tu-95 of the Tsar bomb had a 50/50 chance of not making it, but I'd say it's an edge case.
>>
>>65250794
They are mostly tactical nukes and not expected to fly over an enemy city.
As for the pilot / plane it takes a lot longer than you might expect for a bomb to fall and that time is increased with lobs and retarders.
>>
>>65254376
Tu-95 is not particularly fast and the Tsar bomb was the biggest ever dropped. So its safe to say that any jet will outrun any nuclear gravity bomb that it could be equipped with.
>>

You can fly pretty close to a nuclear blast without shooting yourself down
>>
>>65252335
That mechanic exists to keep lob tossing from breaking the game and forces players to suppress AD.

Man it is fucking UNREAL how easy leftists are to manipulate by foreign powers, they completely ignore the USSR's SS-20 but protest against the counter?

You realize the INF-treaty was about getting rid of short and medium range nukes on both sides?
>>

operational maneuver group. read cold war military history, the OMG was basically the soviet elite forward-reserve unit intended to punch through western lines and race deep into the west after the first zerg waves exhaust them
>>
>>
>>65254839
Yeah, but the protests were about the Pershing II you shitskin.
