front, middle, or rear?fold forward or backward?and what should the case be for both marksman rifles and squad automatic weapons?
>>65253444front(or as far forward thats within reasonable arm-length distance), fold back.
Front for accuracy (more stable)Rearwards if you need to be able to rotate to a wider angle for multiple targets acquisition.
>>65253444Where did (You) get the idea for this topic OP
>>65253462saw the one thread thats up about the FG42, and remembered the bipod positions on the variants of it
>>65253468>'and remembered'(my FG 42 topic and its most recent thread post—made by me—mentioning the bipod differences) That's what I thought.
>>65253474i figured you were from the thread, lolever since seeing the variants years ago, the differences have always wandered in my mindup until then, i never really thought about bipod placement, but every time i've seen an lmg after the fact, i thought of it
>>65253444Further out is more stable, further in is useful when shooting downhill in some circumstances.
>>65253474Even if that desperate schizo shit were true, its always better to make a new thread if you want an actual answer to a broader or tangential question; since somebody who knows what they're talking about is more likely to see it in the catalog and respond than if it were buried in an unrelated thread.
>>65253797its not schizo, hes rightit'd be weird to highjack a thread, so i just made one more on-topic to my question
>>65253444forward: a given movement of the buttstock produces less deflection of the poirear: more flexibility of movement to cover a wider field of fire
>>65253444just keep adding them until you feel comfortable
>>65253444Like everyone said, various positions can be useful under different circumstances but most of the time for a civilian it'll be as far forward as possible, because typically if you're using a bipod at all you're shooting at something a long ways out, have time and want to prioritize accuracy/stability over all else. That said part of why people like Arca rails for bottom mount on precision rifles is it makes it so trivial to shift stuff around on the fly however you like. A more challenging question might be what bipod style you even want to use (top/bottom/slung etc) since that locks you in more.
>>65253444Front, always front. Why? Because I say so.
>>65253450>fold backI think most people don't do this. When you're on the bipod, you ought to preload it forwards which you can only do with a fold forwards configuration
>>65253444There are trade offs.
>>65254886Just get an Atlas and fold them in any direction that your autism tells you to at that particular moment.
>>65253444A 6 minute mile pace
>>65253444generally >>65253458 is right. Rearward mounting is better for light recoiling weapons that need quick target transition speed or a wide scanning arc.Forward is better for recoil mitigation and stability. The true bigbrain approach isn't something most people are ready for. I unironically bought one of these and it's a gamechanger for precision shooting.
>>65258175>The true bigbrain approach isn't something most people are ready for. I unironically bought one of these and it's a gamechanger for precision shooting.Eh. The thing is though that we're always talking tradeoffs in terms of size/mass right? The core value of bipods really is that they give you stability while also being portable, and then further different ones yield different tradeoffs in terms of how much elevation they give you vs center of mass vs mounting reqs. I think it's cool those exts are another approach, but they're pretty long for not much elevation even stowed, like 15-17" and they're like, 2lbs or more if I'm remembering right? Whereas a basic atlas is well under a pound and <12".So it's kind of another cool product along the spectrum, with one extreme being some tiny little thing and the other being a full stabilized tripod maybe or lead sled. Then you've got choices like a ckyepod if you are innawoods and want to absolutely max elevation, or overbore ones which can be interesting in terms of stability and using only top rail, or other stuff. Still cool to see an anon enjoying those.
>>65255948>400 dollar bipodNah
>>65258241Its good. >>65258232Om avoiding short handguards for my LRP/ELR builds, MDT got some chassis with very long handguards, those will give a good amount of stability in combination with a solid bipod like a B&T Cal. IDK why somebody would order a short handguard for a gun with a very long barrel
>>65258348I don't doubt that it's good, but so is a harris and it doesn't weigh a ton or cost 400 dollars.
>>65253444Whatever looks the coolest
>>65258371I use 1 bipod with multiple rifle, even bruh is using it because of QD. Yeah its expensiv and fuck im stupid for buying the classic and not longer version
>>65258404I actually quite like the sling swivel mount because if you don't have your bipod on the rifle it's entirely out of the way. I do like mlok as well. I have a pic rail mounted one but I don't like it as much, it's a little too tall
>>65254886How would that even work with (for example) a RPK
