how effective do you think russia's land convoy system for protecting supplies to crimea will be against ukie drones?
>>
If the gunners are smart they will shoot to miss so the drone pilots aim for the transports and don't shift focus to them.
>>
>>65254595
What are they going to do against low flying drones?
>>
>>65254614
Explode?
>>
>>65254614
Shoot the tanker trucks ofc
>>
It's the battle of the Atlantic all over again.
>>
>>65254595
this looks way more legit than the one with the cgi RWS and antennae on the cab
>>
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Take out the first tanker and the rest become sitting ducks. The maritime strategy doesn't really transfer to land because ships don't need roads.
>>
>>65254682
Worse, at those speeds and that little spacing, hitting the lead vehicle turns the entire convoy into a high speed, highly volatile pile-up collision.

On a side note, who's driving the tanker trucks? Surely they don't have civvies behind the wheel, right? ...Right?
>>
>>65254711
Why not? They're civilian fuel trucks after all
>>
>>65254735
No way. It's already hard to hit a small fast moving drone while stationary. They would need something to actually track them.

>putting all our eggs into this one basket seems to have paid off as they're much harder to detect than they would be if we split them into multiple baskets
>>
>>65254770
The reasoning for convoys is the same one for convoys used in ww2, you can concentrate defense assets to protect the convoy, dispersion in the era of drones is not always the answer.
>>
One thing is certain : hitting those civilian trucks with their civilian drivers in cowardly fashion with drones would be a demonic warcrime.
>>
Aren't they regular civilian tankers? A quad copter with a grenade could take one out. I don't see how putting a lot of them near each other helps.
>>
>>65254735
The drones are effective Russia feels the need to have armed convoys.
>>
>>65254787
Of course, they forced a response so they impose a cost of some kind, but how meaningful will it be?
>>
>>65254796
Seeing the responce is 2 MGs on a mount in the back of a moving truck with ~270 degrees of fire I think the responce will be largely ineffective.
As for the overall effect I think even hitting 10% of total logi to half the front would be devestating.

They do have shaped charges or atleast they include explosively formed penetrators. You kind of need those to penetrate any metal or concrete structure.

Look at the crane video and try to pause it at 0:06, right at the explosion (see pic related). You see a jet characteristic of shaped charged/EFP-s, although the distinction is characteristic. Its honestly way too easy to just add concave copper shapes to your warhead to improve results for drone explosion, shaheds had multiples of these like 2-3 years ago.

>>
>>65255287
Jammers have very limited range, they are effective if they are close to the target but if you just put them on the flight path the drone will lose signal and just hold it's current heading until it reconnects.

>>
>>65256594
>Why the fuck would you do something with such a high chance of death for one dollar and fifty cents?
Guess why they have trouble finding drivers?
>>
>>65254840
I've seen something like three different cranes get hit, which seems like too many for it to just be bad luck. I have to wonder if those drones have some form of image recognition guidance for the final attack run and cranes have just similar enough of a visual profile to get misidentified as a refinery cracking tower
>>
>>65254735
Well Ukraine doesn't have drones over the highway 24/7, so minimizing the time fuel trucks are actually on it is a legit strategy.
Until they inevitably end up running into a drone that is.
>>
>>65256594
One side of it is poverty-driven desperation
The other is, if you deny the mighty second army in the world and it's demands, it will be sent into a crying fit, which then sees you getting a hefty charge for discrediting the army. The only way to get a parole? Ensigning to drive that same fuel truck, except now you have to do it >for free and your chances of dying got bumped from very high (90-something) to guaranteed (146%) since if you weren't completely expendable before, you sure as fuck is now
>>
>>65256601
Most likely answer is that the drones were on a fire-and-forget trajectory and those cranes just happened to be in the way
>>
>>65256615
They've used drones in the past that drop the equivalent of spike strip or caltrops on the highway

Iirc at least gerans/sneeds have EFPs. I would guess the ukie ones do too, as it makes it much more versatile at practically no cost to fragmentation in their case
>>
>>65256601
Possible but unlikely, you want them to dive and hit a a cracking tower low to maximize damage but the ones that hit cranes never change altitude.

This got me thinking, why don't they put some home-on-jam magic on them? Puccian EW is one of the few things that has been performing well during this shitfest, and these systems are quite expensive. Surely having drones go for them if they get jammed would be worth it no?

Copelord what are you doing here? Don't you have to be a bald and wrong somewhere else, I thought you were on a break? Besides, convoys are much larger and easier to focus on than individual trucks, so even if it's currently effective, how long is that going to last before tactics change?

sorry no tracking system as reliable as the good ol mk1 eyeball
>>
>>65257103
That gets expensive fast because you need a guidance system that won't just fly into trees because the emitter is behind them. Unlike radar jammers don't need uninterupted line of sight.
The counter is also extremely cheap and easy, add a cable from the jammer to the antenna so when the antenna is hit the jammer itself is fine.

We might see something like this eventually but I think it'll have to be more like a drone network combining sensor platforms, visual targeting and man-in-the-loop kill vehicles.
It could be done but it'll take a few years of R&D and several production lines to counter an inconvenience.

It seems that the drone did not impact the crane but the lifting hook wires or the hook itself. You can clearly see the wires and the hook in the first seconds, then after the detonation they are gone.
