I want to get into sporting clays but I can’t decide between a semi auto or over/under. Pretty much between beretta A400 or the 686 silver pigeon. Over/under feels so classic and fun to shoot but semi autos shoot so much lighter and I like the extra capacity. Any opinions

It has to be break action, semi auto is for 3-gun GI joe larping

Yeah honestly this is what im struggling with. In so many ways it seems to make more sense to get essentially a top tier semi auto with all the trimmings for the same price as an effectively entry level O/U. But on the other hand, break action is simply and undeniably cool as fuck and mogs semi auto.

Gun stuff is about vibes and emotions, going for the most "sensible" option is a great way to suck all the joy out of it

Honestly based fun enjoyer. I know that if I go with the semi at some point ill see someone breaking open their citori and be like “damn i wish that was me” as i bend down to pick up the shells. I had this experience when I was impatient and got the mini 14 in blued instead of stainless and I still regret it, and that’s literally pure aesthetics.

You’re right anon. Ill just be sure to handle the browning and beretta one last time as a final fit check and go for the O/U.

Some day you'll be the one making the "sensible" guy go "god I wish I had gone with the fun option". You won't know it when it happens, but you'll be that guy.

Why is pump (the funnest by far) automatically excluded?

For the same reason my car doesn’t have truck nutz on it

I shoot sporting clays with a Auto 5 I rehabilitated back to life, is it the “best”? No probably not, but I bust clays better than almost all my friends and get the nod from the old timers for being decent with a Auto 5. Still a very fun sport, have a Fine Shooting Accessories loader and a dual shell caddy made out of kydex clipped to it for optimal dual auto reloads.

Semi-auto if you are just doing recreational sporting clays as a noob, O/U if you want to practice and one day compete. BTW, if you get the semi-auto, you'll be jealous of the people you meet there that got the double barrel.

Why not get both? You can find 2nd hand shotguns in great condition for low prices. I treat claying like golf sometimes, I'll take a bunch of guns and use a different type for different traps to mix it up
>quick pair? Use a bolt action so you have to break your aim
>rabbit and duck sim? .410
>multi direction options? Load up pump and tell your buddy to keep sending clays until your empty.

O/U or nothing. Semis are retarded for that and are banned from most competitions.

>Fine Shooting Accessories loader
A Sinclair loadmaster?
Care to post it and give your thoughts on it?
Wouldn't mind seeing the Auto 5 either.
