It looks cool and when (not if) they figure out the railguns and lasers it'll be by far the deadliest surface combatant in the maritime history.

railgun is a waste of space, better off with 64 cell short length mk41 there

Hon hon!
God I fucking love those Ghibli-esque extreme tumblehome pre-dreds.

It's not a super shit concept, in that it basically builds for a future hypothetical where lasers and missiles get too good for aircraft.
THEN, it's an extremely fast ship that's got tons of power to run every sensor system at once, and is able to just drive into a place and beat up everything nearby.

Unfortunately, it's economically infeasible outside of a war economy, you could carry the same amount of missiles on two smaller boats for far cheaper, and US nuclear shipbuilding is extremely limited by dockyard.

The point of the railgun is that it's an air defense system that's replenishable at sea. With a 64 cell VLS you can intercept 64 missiles, or 128 if you're launching two ESSMs each, then you need to return to port. With a railgun you could intercept hundreds with the onboard magazines and potentially thousands before needing to return to port to replace the rails.

you ain't intercepting shit and your shit will get ruined by a sea skimming AShM doing terminal maneuvers at Mach 3.
>>
>>65256545
nuclear battleship is a cool concept and part of me hopes we do eventually build a few of these but not at the expense of having a proper force of destroyers that can compete with chinese missle spam
>>
I like it too but we need more escorts too

I dont think anyone would mind if we just built more shipyards to build these things and create a ton of jobs like we used to.

Trump can't even build a reflection pool.

I like how individual M93 Oakleaf pieces have their own color concentrations on account of inconsistent dyes or something in Yugoslavia.

My jacket and helmet cover are most consistent with each other since they're from post-Yugo Serbia (jacket is from 1999, helmet cover is from 2000) but my jacket is faded. It'd be cool if other patterns like M81 Woodland for example had different color concentrations that varied from piece to piece.

Nigger does the ground effect not exist in whatever alternative universe you are posting from? I suppose it must not since in your reality air doesn't have density.

Rename it the Obama class to expose who's only for or against it on both sides because of the naming.
Also did they bring back railguns? Last I heard the program got sacked.

>>65256760
I'm still sad the the Ukrainians didn't drone any of the blackjacks during Operation Spiderweb. But apparently that was on purpose since it's part of the nuclear tirade?

>Rename it the Obama class to expose who's only for or against it on both sides because of the naming.
If anybody deserves having a BBGN named after himsef it's Ronald Reagan.
But they named a carrier after him.

Sadly, that design is bad no matter what you name it.

>Also did they bring back railguns? Last I heard the program got sacked.
Just like the lasers they'd 'somehow' develop this in time to fit it to the design
>>

>Sadly, that design is bad no matter what you name it.
What exactly do you think is wrong with it?

>Just like the lasers they'd 'somehow' develop this in time to fit it to the design
HELIOS and ODIN have been used operationally in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. The reason they're not more widely deployed is that the Arleigh Burke class is ancient and doesn't really have enough power to support them.

>What exactly do you think is wrong with it?
The whole thing reeks of a cobbled together mess that will never go anywhere.
Number of VLS cells vs tonnage, placement of various weapon systems (side-by-side 5", laser placement is even woroe)
First announced as conventional power, then suddennly it's nuclear, railgun as a system is not ready (remember the Zumwalts were supposed to have a railgun?)
Sure, the arrangement can be fixed, put the stuff on the centerline, unfuck laser placement, up the VLS count. . . but the USN has an abslutely abysmal record when it comes to feature creeping and 'fixing' their designs to cancellation.

What they need to do is get the specs nailed down, freeze the design early with room and tonnage to spare, build a prototype, unfuck the teething problems, and then start actually building.

But at some point the questioion 'this thing oor more CVS? will be asked by someone in a special commission in congress, and then iit'll just go to the chopping block.

Anon, leftists didn't paint the pool with blue paint that causes algae and leftists didn't then pour bleach into the pool that reacts with the type of paint they used.
