What’s the best way to properly store gun components for long-term. I have a few upper receivers that I’m keeping in case the government decides to ban shit again
put 'er in cosmoline yessir
>>65256759Just put some good ole ballistol up on there and throw it in a drawer sonny
>>65256759When I got my BCM upper it was drenched in thick oil inside and out and wrapped in plastic. Unless you've already cleaned that stuff off of the upper, you could just leave it as is. Don't store it in a basement or a garage and you'll be fine.
I suppose you want to justify that useless psychology degree by getting us to say,“Hurr durr I will take up arms against the state”On public channels, eh fed?
This board is full of cocky faggot retards, OP.
>>65257699Just keep a thin layer of oil on them.
>>65256759Assuming clean parts, best option is to dip them in a preservative of some sort, seal in a vci ziplock bag, and then put the bag in a airtight container. Next best option is to wrap them in vci paper, put it in a vci bag, and then put the whole thing in an airtight container with dessicant packs
>>65256759Im a retard so take my word with a grain of salt, but I also fuck with motorcycles as a hobby so I have lots of oil laying around. I usually take whatever is left in my oil bottles, use a Vinyl glove, and just spread the oil with my fingers. I live in a very humid area in the south and have been known to accidentally leave my AKs just chilling leaned up against a tree getting rained on. Never had rust issues. Only rust issues i've had were on croatian magazines, but i've heard they were also shitty mags.
>>65256759Don't think of a gun as anything more than the sum of it's materials, and approach accordingly. You gotta state if you are talking about long term display, long term but ready for use, pickled, or "For the apocalypse."If you want to store it indefinatly, like forever, you are just going fucking nuts and want to see it recovered by an archeologist in 2000 years?Beeswax, Carnauba, and paraffin, sealed into a block, the block is then painted with a clay slip, preferably mixed with lead powder, coated in pine pitch a few times, coated in wax again, buried deeply and forgotten about forever. Also leave a racist epitaph inside the upper receiver.---If you are just going for like, indefinite but "want to use it again" storage as dry storage? A dry lube powder, a desiccant pack, an oxygen absorber pack, and shove it into a freezer grade food sealer bag then vacuum seal it.
>>65256759Lubeanons Gold Guard and vakuum seal
>>65258222>archeological storageI now know what to do with the rossi 454 with fucked locking blocks I have. Something is going to dig up what was my backyard once, remove the tube spring, and find rolls of racist poetry sealed inside .454 brass.
>>65256759Ignore anyone talking about cosmoline OP, there are much better modern equivalents nowadays.
just keep them in your basement, assuming it isn't damp as shit.
Clean them atleast 1 time/year. Don't be a lazy faggot. The more you love it, the more it will love you and stay with you.
>>65258498why would you clean a gun that you haven't shot?
>>65258642What is rust? >Rust is what happens when oxygen and water binds to metal.>The chemical process only requires O2 + H20 + metal, although heat and the presence of salt speeds up the process.>Unlike some metal oxides that form a protective coating, rust is porous and brittle. It exposes fresh metal beneath, allowing corrosion to continue. You need to stop rust from taking hold on your metal things.
>>65256759sealed plastic bag with silica gel bag inside.
>>65257690Your paranoia speaks for yourself. I’m just asking about storing guns dude it’s not that deep.
>>65256759Same way aircraft piston engines are stored - submerged in light oil in giant cans. you said "best", right?
That's the time to use them not store them
>>65256759>government decides to ban shit againYou will be in iolation. I recommend full and preemptive compliance by selling potentially illegal parts now.
