Can any boomers tell me what it was like when people still used revolvers? Was .38 spl the same price as 9mm or .45 acp? Now .38 is like 3x the price of 9mm for a really shitty load like lead round nose from some foreign company. And non Taurus trash revolvers go for the same price as a high-end pistol like an HK or SIG
>>65256989>Was .38 spl the same price as 9mmThe same price? .38 SPL used to be cheaper for most of the 20th century. It was around the 80s when they ramped up 9mm production, and it started to be sold at more reasonable prices.
Everything used to be better when I was younger, from the women to houses.Used to be my dick was wooden, now everything wooden is limp-dicked..t trying to translate a joke-saying, I think I failed.
>>65256989>Now .38 is like 3x the price of 9mm for a really shitty load like lead round nose from some foreign companyI just checked ammo.com, the cheapest .38 is 40cents and the cheapest 9mm is 21.5cents. Sure it's double but that's not a really bad price considering I only put about 50 round through my SP101 and maybe 100 through my 9mm every month. >non Taurus trash revolvers go for the same price as a high-end pistol like an HK or SIGI got my SP101 for $500, look around and keep your eyes peeled for deals.
>>65257647The point is that everything keeps getting worse and it's largely true.
>>65258041Yeah if only we could still contract syphillis and die in a mustard gas cloud in France
>>65256989.38 and 9mm were priced the same in the early 2000s. 45 was the same as 357 mag
>>65257653>high end revolvers go for the same price as high end pistolsThere might be a connection…
>>65256989B. '49 I got this...Plain old hardware stores were everywhere. seems usually had lumberyards attached. I actually used to think Jews were good 'cause the motherfuckers owned more than half of them. Mary Tyler Moore's Boss, Ed Asner - had a twin brother with a scrapyard + hardware store = coolest of them all. You literally could not find ANYone with a bad word to say about them. My dad was in France training on Concorde on a snowy ass Christmas eve and our fucking oil burner furnace fucked up and it was cold af. MISTER Asner said fine no problem am he loaded up some shit an came an fixed it. On Christmas. Anyway . .. The Gun Case was an object of fascination to me. Same with The Ammo shelf. THERE WERE NO METRIC CARTRIDGES OF ANY KIND stocked back then. because Mr. Asner knew my Dad if I asked for some ammo he gave it to me. I only ever got 12 ga, 32 Smith and .22Lr on Dad's tab. later when I turned 12 and wild dogs were a problem (people dumped them an they became feral and mean af) My first job was killing wild dogs for the farmers. Age ten I asked for some ammo for "a Mauser rifle" and Asner went back and came back with some 8mm. When I got home and was having Dad show me how to work the weapon - the ammo didn't fit.I had to bike back up there (x miles) and told him it didn't fit and that the gun said 7mm x ??on it, He took back the 8mm and said he could get me a box about noon next day. When I got the stuff and that rifle I was BIG SHIT I tell you. Pop was an Airliner Mechanic and everybody knew I would be "Damn. DAMN, Careful." Jews back then were terrified of White men.Didn't want any Communist ammo or guns in their stores back then. And it goes without saying I was terrified of my Dad - so it all worked out. When Dad built on to our house full basement garage included - a different, lumberyard Hardware store Jew - just fronted him everything he needed. Pop volunteered to pay a little interest on what he owed and Stan said no. the markup

>>65259815This was a fantastic read, thank you, Anon
If you shoot any standard revolver caliber on a regular basis, you should be reloading. The economies of scale are reduced due to most people using autoloaders.
>>65256989Because they're fun
>>65256989Most places you'd find a little 9X19, (marked 9mm Luger) usually 115 grain, occasionally 124 grain, always full patch. The higher end gunshops would have european label 9X19, and then you'd find hollowpoints or the like..38 Special you had a bunch to chose from, but if you walked into a better shop and said you wanted "A Box of .38", they'd ask you what kind of .38 revolver, as people still had old nightstand guns in .38 S&W, or .38 Short Colt.9X19 was usually more money, unless you wanted something like .38 Special Metal Piercing or .38 Tracer..45 ACP unless it was plain old USGI ball was usually more money, but it was often match ammo you were looking at. Stuff like flying ashcans for use in revolvers.GI surplus/230 grain ball was usually in between midrange .38 Special and the euro makes of 9X19. You had a lot of people actually shooting .45 ACP revolvers instead of just "investing", so you usually had a good selection of various .45 ACP in a decent shop. You also saw a lot more .45 AutoRim.
