Would this actually work?
>>65257803sure why not
>>65257803Try it out, and get back to us with the result
>>65257803it is only protecting your face and aren't most professionals trained to aim center mass?
>>65257809I suppose you'd wear a bullet proof vest in addition.
>>65257803Work for what? I watch barely any movies and while I've seen a few james bond in the past I don't know that one. What's the supposed design purpose there? I mean, I will say it looks very fucking stupid for anything I can immediately think of, like if it's supposed to be antiriot then something you wear makes way more sense and you don't want a lot of extra weight out on your gun like that basically ever. And as the most basic gut check, if it was something that made sense and isn't scifi then we'd see it in the real world, and I've never seen anything like that in a the real world. But maybe there's some reason in the movie for it, like something a rando guard can grab if they don't have even 30 seconds to put on a proper helmet at least.
>>65257803Seems like you'd be point shooting rather than using optics and definitely not irons, clearly for close range though. Why is a USAF general in close combat with cqb gear? And when did they have tan uniforms with sandy berets?
>>65257817> What's the supposed design purpose there? Well this is the scene it's from. Was always intrigued by this gun/shield design and wondered if it was based on anything that had been used in the real world.https://youtu.be/1YpQLtoo2vM?t=119
>>65257812>I suppose you'd wear a bullet proof vest in additionI believe he is actually. >>65257822>Why is a USAF general in close combat with cqb gear?>And when did they have tan uniforms with sandy berets? To samefag, it's because he's a westpoint reject turned arms dealer literally larping as a mercenary general
>>65257827.32 acp out of a PPKYes it might actually work, but even then the shield probably needs to be at least three times thicker and heavier.
>>65257827There have been several small arms gun shield designs but I don't know if any of them used clear material
>>65257803Why not use a full shield?
>>65257883>Why not use a full shield?Because it's not compatible with an 80rnd full giggle rifle you spray with on the move
>>65257803Why stop there?
Le video game
too heavy
What little coverage it provides is completely dependent on keeping the unwieldy thing held at the right angle. A helmet of the same material would make more sense in basically any application.
>>65257817Anon if you're using a rifle the "riot" is over instantly.
>>65257803If you actually fired from behind cover, so that your body isn't exposed like in the movie, I could see some kind of shield like that having some limited niche use, and making it stop a .32 pistol like in the movie is kind of plausible, though it'd be a bit heavy.>>65257835>I believe he is actually. I actually forgot that.>it's because he's a westpoint reject turned arms dealer literally larping as a mercenary generalAlways thought he was kind of an absurd Bond villain. Like just oddly low rent and oddball, which actually makes me appreciate him more.
>>65259909>Always thought he was kind of an absurd Bond villain. Like just oddly low rent and oddball,Have you forgotten when Bond killed Rupert Murdoch?
>>65260383No, but it's still less common.
>>65257803In a CQB situation where you're only poking your head around the corner? Maybe. Except a ballistic shield worth shit wouldn't be see-thru unless it was even more unwieldy than that.
>>65257803yes but something like that is too clunky to be used outside of police useeven for that purpose it's outclassed by the combination of full-size shield carried by another officer to cover the body and a visor to cover the face
>>65260383He didn’t feel like low rent, he chewed scenery and had funky naval falseflag plans. The general larp arms dealer was small time when compared to not-Murdoch.
>>65260490>yes but something like that is too clunky to be used outside of police useI think it has great utility for shooting over hard cover, like in facility defence or any entrenched position. Also for shooting from prone.
>>65260538>The general larp arms dealer was small time when compared to not-MurdochThat's fair, selling diamonds for arms doesn't really compare to starting WWIII for a media monopoly.
>>65257844Correct. Transparent ballistic glass is heavy as fuck and unsuitable for portable use unless you're fine with a low rating.
>>65257803brazillians use them
>>65260712The new IIIA version is 4.39lb. That is absolutely horrible.
>The AJAX™ Armor System is an advanced rail-mountable ballistic shield for crew-served weapons. Designed for attachment to the rail systems located on the sides of a weapon, a typical AJAX configuration includes left and right-side armor systems that operate independently of one another.
>>65260831
>>65260840they are not popular, but some exist.
>>65257883Heavy, minishield can be used from all forms of hardcover on pretty much all angles.
>>65257803Transparent ballistic shields exist but they tend to go milky and opaque pretty quickly in field use as the surface gets scratched to fuck. Also one good hit even from a small pistol like a PPK will make a big crunchy white patch that blocks your vision.
>>65260383With all I've learned about journalists and news media since then, he actually doesn't feel particularly far fetched anymore.
>>65260739pretty sure you are supposed to only use them behind cover and discard them as soon you move away from it
>>65260840Spalling will rip your face off.
>>65261076That's a great way to piss hundreds of dollars. Better to use a full size shield. You can buy used, good Protech IIIAs or IIIs from Botach for $400 + ~$50 shipping. Yeah they're thirty pounds but provide almost total body protection.>>65261151If it's polyethylene, aramid, fiberglass, or ceramic then that's a non-issue.
>>65260538>>65260543The Living Daylights is a much more low-key and "realistic" Bond film compared to most of Brosnan's tenure. The plot is a corrupt KGB general trying to start a shooting war between MI6 and the KGB to keep the KGB distracted from his embezzlement of state funds so he can carry out drug and weapon deals.
>>65260840holy shit Mike Sparks mentioned
>>65261053If only.
>>65257803I suppose you could use a pane of that plexiglass they have in culturally enriched areas, but it'd be prohibitively heavy and bulky if it were to provide any protection at all.
>>65261151just combine it with a ballistic mask
>>65261401The backface deformation on these removes chromosomes. The visor kind is superior, or a mandible.>>65261355These work but come in a variety of ratings under UL 752. The pistol rated flavors run out of gas quick if handgun AP or rifle ball comes out, and they're still damn heavy even if cut down.Structural armor is neat. You can get ballistic glass up to UL 752 Level 10 (.50 BMG) from specialty shops if you really donutta give a shit about cost, weight, thickness. There are unofficial levels 11 and 12 as well from select mfgs, historically with 12 being 14.5mm. That's meant more for diplomatic buildings in Iraq and not the liquor store inside the subghetto deep inside the regular ghetto.
>>65261053Or intentionally releasing software full of bugs so you have to get updates, James Bond predicted what tech bros would do.
>>65257803Yeah, it should help you avoid catching the 'rona.
>>65261449As someone working for soulless tech company, most of the shipped bugs are just due to cost-cutting, incompetence and the bar for MVP being very low (we can fix it later!).Once the update-mechanism is there it gets coopted by marketing drones of course.
>>65261208It's one of the reasons I love it a lot.
>>65257883>>65260969problem solved kinda
>>65261637I still choose to believe there is a level of maliciousness involved on top of the greed and incompetence.

I remember seeing an MP5 briefcase which acted as a turret shield.Think the idea was that it was for returning fire from armored vehicles, as it would both block the window and allow for return fire in one of those JFK type incidents. These aren't battlefield weapons but you do see them in counter terror, policing, but it's almost always a stand-alone shield that just has a cut out for the gun. BOPE used them, I think they were the most famous user. And cynically, I suspect half the point is to encourage someone to return fire who would be far better off just diving for cover.
