Cops should only carry revolvers and shotguns. Rifles should be reserved exclusively for SWAT.This alone would stop a lot of shootings. It would force better marksmanship, and people are more comfortable around revolvers or shotguns than glocks and ARs.

I liked having both depending on the situation. My dad was also a cop and he carried a S&W 19 and a Winchester 97. I always preferred his guns because that's what I grew up shooting. If the will of the state is to help and aid it's people then cops would be seen in a very different light.
