So say we had miniaturized fusion NVKES that use no fissile material but rely on a laser to start the chain reaction, a dialable yeild beetwen 0.01-1kiloton, its in a 25mm diameter sphere like grenade,What would be the implication for deterence and war?
>>65260093More and less than you think. I take it you've read Andre Gsponer's FGNW breakdown. It wouldn't replace conventional explosives for close ground support due to the neutron pulse. It would be a big upgrade for air and sea combat, and potentially for demolishing isolated bunkers or specific infrastructure, but because it's nuclear it probably would stay off the table completely.
idk :/
>>65260093What does the reddit frog have to do with that?
>>65261302The frog faced Kek was the ancient egyptian god of darkness and mysteries, so It seems appropiate to use a frog face to ask questions People have been using this meme for years to ask about what mystifies them, long before reddit came along.>>65260093Single use might be useful, but I'm not sure if you could use more than one in a battle - wouldnt the EMP from the first one burn out the electronics of any others nearby? Also, radation might be a problem.
>>65261302That frog was being used here before reddit even existed.
>>65260093I would say in Huttese: This bounty hunter is my kind of scum. Fearless and inventive.
>>65261472>>65261532>pepe the frog: 2005>reddit: 2005
>>65260093>use no fissile material>laser to start the chain reactionSo what is doing the chain reaction if you have no fissle material?
>>65262207https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_Inertial_Fusion_Energythe fuel pellet
>>65262207You could use a nuclear isomer. You can induced gamma emissions with a relatively low power laser. Whether or not you can release it all at once and in a directional manner was probably part of the classified JASONS portion of the research.
>>65260093I mean you've entered sci-fi realm already. Current research facilities capable of achieving laser fusion are the size of a football stadium. If you're able to get a laser that small to the level it can be the 'driver' to to rapidly heat and ablate the outer shell of a fusion fuel pellet then you're able to make laser weaponry of immense power anyway.
>>65262207You use the laser to rapidly heat and ablate deuterium-tritium and the resulting "rocket effect" implodes the pellet to extreme densities, triggering thermonuclear burn.
>>65263270>>65263273You're missing the billion other lasers it would take to do this. It's not just a ablation you need compression.
