Cruisers as a class name are a relic, the only ones the US have are old and dwarfed by the Zumwalt's. Destroyers are the principal surface combatant of the modern day and can be any size they want. The distinction between them and Cruisers died post WW2 when the gun focused ships were retired. Nowadays even Frigates are just smaller modern Destroyers or at least smaller relative to the size of your Destroyers, they can be bigger than other nations.
