You are part of a 4 man security team traveling deep into the Amazon with a 6 man research team. You will travel by boat deep into the jungle while stopping along the way to disembark to accompany the research team as they move on foot a couple of miles inland to study nerd stuff you don’t care about before making it back to the boat. The team plans around a dozen of these stops but they could get distracted along the way. The boat carries all the supplies you will need but when you’re on foot you’re going to be carrying what you need on your person. There is always the potential for dangerous Amazonian wildlife and there is a decent chance you’ll come into contact with hostile isolated tribes. The team doesn’t expect to come into contact with any sort of paramilitary/narcoterrorist/bad guys armed with modern weapons but you’ll never know. Assuming the basics are covered via storage on the ship (lights, radios, batteries, food, water, ammunition assuming it’s a common enough cartridge, etc), what would your loadout be? Would the rest of the security team have the same loadout or would each of the four of you be specialized? None of your team has night vision. You have enough of a budget to acquire basic typical equipment you could realistically source (more or less up to maybe the late 1990s/early 2000s tech wise, nothing crazy modern due to the remoteness of where you’re having to source your gear). You are able to adequately test your equipment and can depend on it to function properly so no need to worry about buying a dud.
>>65262057This I think
>One guy with a shotgun and a variety of different shells for what might be needed, a quality reliable pump would be easy to source>One guy with some flavor of Cold War era SMG with a suppressor and subsonic ammo, MP5 preferably but something cheaper like an Uzi would probably be easier to source and would be fine too>The other two guys with AKMs, preferably folding stocks or underfolders to take up less space. AKs should be easy enough to source and 7.62x39 would be perfectly adequate in the jungle for anything potentially encountered>If the SMG guy can’t get a suppressor than give him an AKM as well>If AKMs can’t be sourced for all three of them at that point for whatever reason then two FALs or G3s (whatever is available, preferably G3s) and the guy who would otherwise have a suppressed SMG will just have an unsuppressed SMG and can help carry more of the heavier 7.62x51
>3 dudes with fals rechambered to 35 rem (including me as squad leader)>last dude has a mag58 in 35 rem as fire support>easily able to put down any wildlife or orney local, only hard part is avoiding jungle sickness
>>65262057I'd just burn the whole gaff down. It's a net drain on the world's oxygen anyway.

I actually did this. transit security for multinationals, missionaries, aid workers, etc. On rivers too. The primary threat was logistical, boat breaking down, which invariably it would. And often supplies would have to be cached/purchased ahead of the main expedition, and the wounded would have to be sent back. So you have to secure a modest supply chain. Second threat would be locals stealing mission critical equipment and personelle. Because so many foreign groups fed the natives like seaguls they would flock anywhere we landed, trying to sell things, buy things, beg, they were savages with the kind of disregard for human decency that you couldn't understand unless you had seen it. Gibsmedat on a whole other level and that was if nothing went wrong. If the natives started fighting among themselves, attacked each other, demanded things we couldn't sell, which weren't ours to give away, which were mission critical, things could get ugly very quickly. You think you can maintain a security perimiter? forget it. People swimming in the water and climbing aboard, hundreds of locals coming to gawk and setting up a spontaneous bazaar, your local porters deserting, it's total anarchy. and being able to handle a hundred natives was my job. To survive you have to plan on fighting as few people as possible, if anyone. It's a diplomatic mission
So some things you might not consider:>souvenir valuepaint over all your logos and emblems, scuff, spray paint, carbonize with a cigarette lighter anything shiny. The natives value oddities far more then you do, so seriously consider what "worthless" things they might steal. My hair was of intense interest to them so I shaved it off, my hats however were always gibmedat'd. The natives don't consider taking something to be stealing, they take something, pass it around so everyone gets a look at it, they don't accept "possession" as a concept. They don't consider it stealing and expect everyone to allow anyone to inspect anything and if you refuse, like monkeys they think you're hiding something valuable.>weapon retentionhuge issue, "let me see your gun". "show me your gun"." can I shoot your gun" over and over and over. And they would become angry if you said no, and if you threatened them it would be taken as a personal challenge and you might have to duel the native you offended. The main reason for the modern bayonet is that it stops people trying to grab the barrel of your gun, I've always considered it a weapon retention tool. Acoustic anti personnel is my go-to because they don't think it's a weapon, they don't think you personally threatened them, it's just scary and hurty. Strobe lights, infinitely usefull. all natives raise their hands to block the light, you get to see what weapon they are carrying. There are many kinds of tasers, but most useful are portable cattle fences. the natives don't understand it as an attack, if they throw spears, it will be at the fence. >CCTo avoid the inference that you threatened anyone with a weapon, highly advisable to have a "visible" weapon like a machete, and hidden weapons. You're far more likely to need to murder people then fight an actual battle. Fiber wires, soft wires, syringe weapons, chemical weapons, poisons in various forms. Rohipnol oil prostitutes use to drug customers is particularly useful
>>65262057>You are part of a 4 man security team traveling deep into the Amazon with a 6 manI say we're fucked. Basically only ONE man is on duty at any given moment.
In the jungle you can't really prevent anyone ambushing you, and if you're on the water you can't prevent and RPG ambush. So you send two RHIB type craft or local torpedo canoes forward to try to draw fire and flush out ambush, they want break contact weapons so think 40mm. Smoke grenades work particularly well to conceal swimmers. Because if you break contact you will have to then halt the convoy, establish a perimeter on the shore where you're also likely to get ambushed, then slip away at night. Think I must have floated a mile downriver under a fuel barrel, then kicked the barrel on and breathed through a refueling tube in the hope someone would chase the barrel not realizing I wasnt under it any more. breathing in petrol fumes without blowingbubbles is a skill.Taking loose fire from narcos is common, casual attempts to kill you are their way of telling you not to try to land. Either because they have facilities or crops or supply lines or caches in the area. You can shoot back, it's advisable to return fire if it's narcos, it's just the natives you don't shoot at.Locking the researchers in the boat, handcuffing them to things, or each other, totally going to happen. It's your boat, their organization is paying but the civies are cargo. Very atlantis, but that's how it is. They will get you all killed if you leave them to monkey around.>>65263277no no, your men take hypnotic sedatives, stimulants, boat pilots, aircraft pilots, transit security are always juiced and it might take you two weeks to recover when you get back just from the sleep deprivation. You have to use the researchers to pose as security, so spies can't tell how many of you are posted, use physical decoys, tricks like lighting two cigarettes, putting three flashlights on wires. light a kerosene lantern inside a poncho with a lit cigarette. wear a disguise every day.
