my idea to put a multi use launch tube full length on top of a rifle. Not shown is possible optional rear nozzle attachment possibly required to turn it into recoilless gun and/or rocket launcher with rear rocket exhaust. But mostly it would be grenade launcher that leverages much longer length for good FPS with still manageable recoil. tube would fit inside rings, and atop rings would be iron sights as backup to any fancy optics and dual rifle and rocket, mortar, recoilless, grenade, etc targeting computer.I guess there could be provision to mount the or "a" targeting gizmo to the tube as a stand alone unit.My expert says he could write an app that would turn any Walmart off brand $25 cell phone into a GPS powered targeting computer that could be clipped onto any barrel and programmed to target any of a dozen or more types of ammo to any point you pick on the GPS map, and no "signal broadcasting" or "service" required.Thots?rough pic for general concept of course, to show how putting a tube on top could work fine with modern in-line rifle and cheek weld, etc. If you got tall sights, you can use that space under them.
>you know how much everybody loves underbarrel launchers?>what if we made it fantastically worse for no good reason?
>>65265331>what if OICW but even lower production valueno
>>65265331>Thots?bad. you talk about cheek weld, but I don't think you know what that is. the space between the top of the stock and the sights is necessary and putting a tube there fucks it all up.
>>65265334prob with 203 is max 15" barrel, plus can't do rocket or recoiless.IIRC they got much longer range 40mm with more powerful boosters, so just tweak those for longer slower burn time out a much longer barrel.>>65265336prob is your are stuck with that whole thing, a too short rifle, and weak 20mm, and can't do other ammo types. Plus its got to be a PIA to strip and clean. Guess why Porsche Spyders sell for dirt cheap after about 30,000 miles?
>>65265344I actually tried it with 1 7/8" (40mm+) PVC pipe taped to AR-15 bb gun, and even with 1/2 pad to bring it up, it was "OK" with minor head tilt, which didn't hurt my (not that great) accuracy to any noticeable degree.Guys that have those back up irons at 45deg say they work just fine (but might not be first choice for winning bench shooting match)Might use offset Optic for best performance, but that should also be OK.
>>65265331thats just an overslung LAWhow the fuck did you manage to make one of the simplest weapons possible into something terribleare you like the midas of shit?
>>65265386the more important question is "why?". why make the rifle heavier and unwieldy when you can just carry a LAW or two on your back? there's a reason the OICW failed, and it's not because it's too weak, it's because it's too heave and unwieldy.
>>65265344how about an overslung 203 with 2x barrel length?I guess the breach hatch is a little close to the face.At least the weak-hand grip is same.
>>65265407why the fuck are you trying to make the launcher extra long?just put it under the barrel like a normal human does, they already have higher pressure ammo that alleviates low velocity anywayadditionally, its a fucking grenade launcher, why is the slow projectile velocity even an issue to you?if you truly need it to go faster, you just use a dedicated launcher like an M79 or M320the entire point of a launcher being on a rifle, is that is it light, out of the way, and immediately accessible on the spot; not heavy, cumbersome, and needs an entirely new doctrine just to use
>>65265405all it would do to the rifle, per se, is move the gas-block thingy off to side, and replace current "post" tall front sight and rear handle/site with rings. They you gotta choice to slap in a tube to make it a grenade, recoiless, rocket, mortar launcher with a 40" long tube, for an extra 4lbs and no real increase in bulk.Plus you could have a stand-alone tube when detached.2400yrds range out of 19" tube, so same could be had out of 40" tube with longer steady boost.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_19_grenade_launcherRPG is also 40mm tube. sometimes you want a sack of 40mm grenades for light mortar "fire for effect", sometime you want just one RPG, sometimes you want to roll with 40mm "sniper grenade" always ready.
>>65265425>M320Effective Range: 150 meters for point targets; up to 350-400 meters for area targets2400yrds vs 400yrds.I'm that guy that would rather hit them when I'm still 5+ times outside their max range.
>>65265443then carry a fucking standalone launcher, you dumb nigger
>>65265436What is the value of integrating this with a rifle instead of keeping it as a separate piece of equipment
>>65265436>an extra 4lbs and no real increase in bulk.that is a LOT of bulk, and it would probably be closer to 5-8 lbs.your RPG gun would probably end up looking a lot like this if anyone bothered to develop it. and the reason the MK19 has so much range is because it uses high velocity 40mm. high velocity 40mm is not suitable for man portable weapons.
>>65265331> rear rocket exhaust>right in the shooter’s faceAre you retarded?
This idea was already tried. Can't remember the name of it but it was some northern yuro thing that never made it past prototype because the concept is retarded.
>>65265463>Not shown is possible optional rear nozzle attachment possibly required to turn it into recoilless gun and/or rocket launcher with rear rocket exhaust.
>>65265502>bro, just carry an entire rocket launcher to put on your rocket launcherare you from elbonia?
>>65265454same as 203, except about 1.5lbs more, but with 6x range, and with "sniper grenade" FPS and accuracy, and can use RPG or recoilless rifle ammo.no 40mm recoilless currently exists.
>>65265530you need to be 18 to post here
>>65265504you'd unscrew the ring that has the rear loading hatch and screw on something like the RPG rear nozzle.Looks like they use pipe clamps, but I'd use threads for "no tools".You COULD launch an RPG with just swinging the hatch open and locked open, or without the nozzle and with hatch and ring removed, you'd just need to be "careful", or do it from hip or put a sheet of something between cheek and tube.24oz beer or 28oz "tall boy" bean can open on both ends might do the trick. :) I'd go with the bean can, since steel, plus can be neatly opened on both ends.
>>65265542if its such a terrible idea, explain why the 203 is so great being under.would switching be THAT terrible?OICW was seriously considered and the main issue was 20mm was too small for what they wanted (air-burst top attack)I guess I could go with 30mm, but IF a rifle launcher can make 40mm go fast, and has 2x blast, AND can also fire RPG, hard to not stick with 40mm.Not like every grunt in the squad would need to pack a tube.
>>65265530At the cost of making the primary function of the rifle worse
>2026>direct fire weapons For the same weight as your bullshit you could have the guy carry two loaded FPV drones.
>>65265742direct fire weapons are still useful, but OP's idea is straight out of the cold war
>>65265760Hey that's the thing I mentioned here>>65265488But couldn't remember the name of. Never looked into it enough to determine if the rifle was just a ranging gun or not.
>>65265685how does it make it worse, besides MAYBE a minor weight gain over 203.I say MAYBE because longer tube means lower PSI need for same FPS, plus mounting largely "baked in" as well as "dual use" in that any strength AKA weight would make mounting AND sites/optics mount all stronger with same steel.Like how the FW-190 used same metal for engine armor, handy fold-down tool tray for service, and airframe structure.
>>65265818have you even held an actual rifle before?
>>65265742>For the same weight as your bullshit you could have the guy carry two loaded FPV drones.forgot to mention, but seems like 40mm hi-V "sniper grenade", with multi-targeting optic could be some anti-drone weapon.40mm is big enough for off the shelf proxy fuse, or massive bird shot, or bird net, etc.WTF knows, maybe a RPG based anti-drone munition, even guided.Main thing is one or two guys would have these cocked and locked at all times.
>>65265370The 918 or the 718?
>>65265819I do daily at least BB rifle shooting at work as Security.I mostly shoot at puddles in parking lots for that "instant feed back", with AR-15 style BB gun.in addition to handgun, I roll with a real AR-15 and semi-auto shotgun, and 12ga flare gun and lots of flares and smoke bombs. Why the flares and bombs? :) WTF not, and incendiary tracers not legal in my State, and most action is at light so might help to light things up, and might need to "squid" with smoke to escape or toss one just to "knock them off their game plan" since they will have FUD as to WTF smoke could be.Also, I tend to do LARGE sprawling sites where could be hard for 911/cops/EMTs to figure out where the fuck I even am. I guess I could use flash light, but I wanna say "I'm POPPING SMOKE!!!" :)
>>65265827They're too fast and move too erratically to target like that for a human. And the pressure required to launch a 40mm non recoilless would be probably injury inducing.Use the weight for your own anti drone drone that loiters above you and targets enemy drones.
>>65265849>The 918 or the 718?oh, I meant these, I call'em "Spyders" just because mid-engine. I call all mids "spiders".$10k asking at 60k, will need $20K service within next 10K, then another $10K service for the next 10K miles. you a fly in its web. you can't get rid of it, drive it or scrap it without losing big.
>>65265861>40mm non recoilless would be probably injury inducingsame as 203, with longer tube for more FPS at same G's/recoil.

>>65265760nice to know Swedes had made a recoilless round in the near 40mm class.I was wondering if Laws of Guns & Physics limited those to over 70mm as practical and effective.DESU, I was thinking the recoilless feature could be this idea's #1 use.Swedes were playing with 47 and 37mm recoilless in WW2 but dropped because " small-bore solid steel penetrators were obsolete for shoulder-fired antitank weapons"https://digitaltmuseum.se/011024259478/47-mm-granatgevar-fm-1945I'm surprised shoulder fired recoilless was even consider for solid AP anti-tank.

>>65265331>leverages much longer length for good FPS with still manageable recoilRecoil is mostly created from projectile weight and speed. An underbarrel launcher with same projectile weight and speed would have the same amount of recoil as this piece of shit tube.
>>65266446tell me you flunked physics and never even did any physical "play time"
>>65266450The time difference between accelerating a projectile to a given speed through a 300mm tube and 600mm tube will not make a noticeable difference in recoil for the user. There is a reason all cannons use buffer systems instead of retarded shit like making the barrel longer.
>>65266458fuck it wont, its been tested with 12ga by some science guys using diff loads to get same weight going same speed with 28 vs 14 barrels and "felt recoil" was night and dayguns made to weight same etc because not retards like you
>>65266476It will feel slightly less snappy but the impulse nigh identical.A soft rubber buttpad makes more of a difference.>same weight going same speed with 28 vs 14 barrels and "felt recoil" was night and dayAnd they used more powder at a higher pressure for the shorter barrel meaning that there was more recoil from the gases at the muzzle in the case of the short barrel version. And it was also louder which contributes to human perception.
