There are dozens of examples where special operations troops got destroyed or otherwise rendered combat ineffective because they only planned for the one hyperfocused task that they had trained on and failed to adapt to evolving contingencies. 4th Rangers at Anzio, SEALs during the Grenada invasion, SEALs again during the Panama City airport battle, FSB Alfa during the Kyiv airlandings, etc. In all of those instances, the elite combat troops were defeated by much lower quality reserve troops who were alert and could react and respond quicker than the special forces troops could react to their original plan failing.

No the point of sof training is to filter out all the normal people with functioning brains through physical and psychological torture and humiliation rituals so all that's left are the truly mentally deranged who are desperate enough for peer approval and perceived masculinity that they can be ordered or pressured to kill indiscriminately. Then those few are given extra toys and support in exchange for committing war crimes and even then, when their express purpose is to murder without oversight, they still manage to bungle and humiliate us at every turn

If I needed some guns to defend a base that's being attacked, perform a beach landing, or send an entire brigade to take an enemy region, then an SF guy is sort of equal to an experienced infantryman. However if I needed someone to perform hostage rescue or discreetly sabotage enemy infrastructure then the special units are the best at that.
