I'm an early-twenty something who wants to buy a gun because I'm an American and it's my right (also because shooting ranges look fun as hell). Once I start working again either this summer or in the fall I'll have a decent amount of disposable income but not enough to buy gold plated AKs.

I like revolvers. They're simple and they look satisfying to handle/fire. Any recommendations for cheap ones that aren't Chinese-produced slop? I live in a blue state and I think we've got red flag laws here for what it's worth but it's still America at the end of the day so I figure I can obtain a gun much easier than most other people living in the developed world.

buy a used revolver, probably a smith pre hillary hole. i suggest going to a gun rental place and renting one or two first to see what you like and going on from there.
>>
>>65267836
It’s not. You literally know nothing about guns and you’re clambering for obsolete garbage

You don’t even know that there are very little Chinese firearms in the U.S. in the first place

Faggot

>>65267871
No shit I don't know anything about guns, why do you think I came here lmfao. I wouldn't be asking you mouthbreathers if I knew everything there was to know about firearms
>>
>>65267850
Alright, thanks, any other tips?
>>

Buy a Maverick 88 shotgun so you have some actual authority in a home defense situation.
>>
Revolvers are simple to load and to fire with factory ammunition.

Their internal operation is more complex than you would think. Diagnosing them when you run into problems is not so easy. Certain parts can wear which eventually cause them to go out of time, and to fix that you really need to know what you're doing.

In the $300-400 range, there are Serbian Zastava revolvers. I wouldn't recommend one to you because they are surplus and if you run into a problem, it might not be so easy to find someone to fix it.

At least $400-550 is about what you should spend. Older used Smith & Wessons and maybe Colts in less than perfect condition can be had. You NEED to make sure that any problems are with appearance only and not with function. A S&W Model Model 10 or Model 64 (.38 Special) is a good choice. Or a Model 65 or Model 66 in 357 Magnum. These were often cop guns.

Also look for a Ruger Security Six or Speed Six. Or a Colt Police Positive or Colt Official Police.

Go read about how to check used revolvers for function before you hand over the money.

For $550 to $650 you can get a decent condition used S&W Model 686 or 686+ or maybe a Colt Trooper.

Above $650 or $700 you can get a new S&W.

.38 Special or .357 Magnum is what a first time double action revolver purchaser should be looking for. .44 Special or .327 Magnum are okay too. Ideally for a used gun you want one that was carried more than it was shot. Or one that sat in someone's closet for decades.

Also DO NOT flip the cylinder closed under its own weight. Not on your gun or a store's gun or a used gun. Not cool. Use your hand to close the crane gently every single time.

And take care, when in a gun store, not to point a gun at anyone, even after verifying it is unloaded. Especially the employees. To look through the sights, aim at the ceiling or the floor.

Ask questions. People will help you if you don't point guns (even unloaded) at them.
>>
>>65267889
Not to get your hopes down but if you live in a blue state it's probably an "assault weapon" ban state and most of the guns you'd conjure up in your head when you think of guns are practically banned outright. Prepare to be disappointed and take a look at your state's gun laws also please be normal around firearms
>>
>>65267850

>going to a gun rental place

very good advice. remember not to flip the cylinders closed and ALWAYS be mindful of which direction the muzzle is pointed in. That is, downrange and not toward people. Firearms are not an endeavor for careless people.

Rent a 686 or 686+ and whatever other double action revolvers the range has. Try shooting in double action mode and single action mode. See how they feel in your hands. Smaller revolvers have more muzzle flip so I would suggest a decently sized one with 38 specials to keep you focused on hitting the target instead of managing recoil.

get a heritage .22lr, gun is cheap as shit, ammo is cheap as shit, and you get a SAA style revolver for cowboy larp
if you want the same thing but higher quality, look into the Ruger Wrangler
>>
>>65267804
>I like revolvers
Taurus and Charter Arms if you're really poor, S&W, Colt, Kimber, Dan Wesson, and Ruger if you're middle class, Spohr, Korth/Nighthawk, and Manurhin if you ever become rich.
>>
>>65267804
Used S&W, but you need to learn how to check if they're mechanically sound.
Taurus, disregard the inevitable faggots who will tell you they are junk because they live in the past of over 2 decades ago.
You should buy a .22LR rifle and/or a .22 Semi-auto to learn to shoot. 10/22, Savage, Marlin for rifle
Taurus TX22 or Grand Power CP/K22 for pistol
Come to think of it, Ruger Wrangler might not be a bad first choice.

cheap and revolver don't go together. If you're poor get a glock or m&p for a little cheaper. If you're really poor get a sd9ve 2.0.

Heritage RR is a much worse deal now that Taurus canceled their lifetime warranty.

Semi auto 10/22 rifle
9mm semi auto pistol
AR15
12 gauge pump
.308 bolt action
.357 revolver

Learn about them and purchase them, preferably in that order.

This is the latest version before /pfg/ upped and died. Mostly just added shitty NV / thermal options and replaced the armor because RMA sucks.
I'd boot the 4SAS7 personally because they play games on sizing (the 10x12 is ~9x11) and has no drop protection because it's an older plate from 2009, but this isn't an armor-focused guide.
Also the Somogear is shit and the SMS HFXC kills it.
>>
When OP indicates an interest in revolvers, maybe we should mostly stick to that, instead of trying to push autopistols and shotguns on him.

check your state gun laws & see if they have any prohibited guns, gun modification or barrel length

Living here in the great redguard capital of Maryland our state doesn't allow any rifle barrels less than 16", any pistol with a foregrip etc etc

KNOW THE LAW

Not even being a law cuck or shit free will and all that but seriously when it comes to this type of expensive hobby with a relatively small community locally it pays to know what you can do within the legal wiggle room.

Also consider knowing your state law on carrying either concealed carry (CC) or open carry (OC) if you ever plan to carry

I first started into guns by buying a Mossberg590A1 as my first gun.

Turned 18 in 2011 & saved up $800

Went to the gun counter

Signed some forms

Gave them $800

Got a gun

It really is easy buying a long gun such as a rifle & shotgun first before you buy a pistol.

The law surrounding pistols are far more stricter than long guns. Some state even requires you to be 21 before you can buy a pistol

So tell me sweet child

Why do you want a gun and for what purpose?
>>
>>65268986
nta but do you have any regrets about the 590a1 or have gotten better shotguns since then?
>>
>>65269585
Sometimes but I'm happy about that purchase

Its big, heavy as fuck & you can beat the fuck out of it but it generally sucks if you want to use it for hunting or skeet. Its just excessively heavy for those uses

Still awesome attaching a bayonet to it
>>
>I like revolvers

When you can afford it or like 357/38 to a point you want to LARP as a bounty killer.

Check out Ruger revolvers Anon. The MSRPs you see online are higher than the prices you typically see in stores, I got one of picrel for about $500 last year. Heavy, abuse-proof, and proven by people who have been carrying since the 80s.
>>
>>65269585
different anon here i dont regret buying a 590 but it rusts in my closet. havent even touched it in years. i have other shotguns i use more hell i have a standard ass 500 5shot that id grab before the 590 every time.
the 590 is extremely specific.

Is the P-10C a good first pistol?

>So tell me sweet child

>Why do you want a gun and for what purpose?

I'm far less concerned about the self defense aspect (not that I'll neglect it entirely, but I live in a whitebread town that barely has so much as a mugging happening whenever crime does occur).

I think guns are fascinating, and at risk of sounding juvenile, cool. I want to visit shooting ranges, know what it feels like to fire one, and ultimately take full advantage of my second amendment right.

So in short I'm far more captivated by the sporting capacity of firearms.
>>
>>65271125
used smith revolver, preferably pre hillary hole. get one with a longer barrel they are more fun to shoot recreationally.
a security six that is a good deal would be fun too.
just have /fun/
>>
>>65267804
I got an nib 357 Ruger sp101 for like 600ish out the door a month ago. That's probably the cheapest you'll get a new 357 for. If you're okay with used and .38 there's some nice looking old colt detectives on the market right now for 4-5 I think? Any cheaper than that and you're probably looking at less reputable stuff like taurus or charter arms, both of which some people swear by but others say are turds.
>>
>>65271125
I would definitely go to a gun range and see if any got a good amount of rental guns available. Finger fuck the shit out of the pistols, fire off some rounds with the rentals. Everybody hand feel is different for what works better for them shooting wise.

The hardest choice in choosing a firearm is knowing what feels comfortable in your hands. Not all guns are one size fit all and don't even think the recoil from is gonna feel the same for every gun.

I tried a Glock, M1911 & a S&W M&P.

Loved the feeling of the single stack of the 1911, hated the grip of the Glock and the M&P felt like shit to shoot to me anyways.

Got a Canik TP9 as a compromise cause it felt the best for me and also it was on sale

The same goes for rifles & shotguns.

Just rent some out and finger fuck on their mechanism & handling

come back for opinions on gun comparisons when you have narrowed down what you are looking for in a gun

But most of all don't cheap out & compromise if you don't have to.

A gun will last your entire lifetime if you take care of it

Enjoy the journey & headache of this wonderful hobby.

This thread is chock full of really solid advice that I'll definitely take to heart when my wallet allows for a trip to my LGS. I can't thank everyone ITT enough for helping me out, the first few replies had me nervous and thinking this would just be endless shitflinging lmfao.

I guess another question I have is this: how do people react to you if/when you tell them that you do own guns? Tons of my friends are libshits so desu I wouldn't doubt they may start to see me differently, but I could just be going on about nothing.

Don’t get a piece of shit. And that applies to anything really

Don't openly advertise it, especially when around strangers or friends of friends. Knowingly being armed makes you a target of opportunity for many thieves.

Guns are a high value commodity to be stolen and traded as they're regulated to a semi degree of strictness.

Also people especially city babies on the east coast have a reactionary trigger towards responsible gun ownership.

Only talk about the subject with known fellow gun owners. Not saying all unarmed people hate guns but unless they're close friends alot of people who never grew up with guns around their lives have a very immature idea on what gun ownership entails.

Gun ownership isn't just owning a gun, it comes with many types of responsibilities you will have to uphold to have a safe life.

>tl;dr close friends and family only when you can trust them
