>>65270833I highly suggest that you go look through one at a LGS. While it does have short eye relief, it's not as bad in use as it is on paper. In fact it's still perfectly usable quite a ways back from the optimal position. Looking through one will answer all of your questions and soothe your concerns.

The only acog I have is a TA51 I put on my PTR but I like it
I have a TA31F but I think I’d rather have a TA02 for a forward mounted RMR and a crosshair reticle. The chevron is so tiny and when I’m shooting from a shaded position into a sunny area the reticle is so hard to see.

I just extended the bipod for the photo, it was lower when I was shooting. I believe I could get better accuracy out of that 12.5 midlength criterion barrel. I just haven't yet. >>65272433It looks great, 4x is the sweet spot for this particular unit so the screen just fills the scope POV. Works perfectly with an Elcan too. I usually run black hot and turn the scope illumination on when actually hunting, for target shooting I do whatever gives the target the best contrast based on conditions. Thermal is so fucking cool, I'd recommend it over tube based NV for most people if they have to choose one or the other.

You could legitimately beat someone to death with the BCG like a tomahawk. That said, FN's stated goal with the SCAR platform was a rifle that was cheap to produce and it shows, plastic parts that feel like they shouldn't be plastic (for example the part that holds the stock to the receiver looks like it's made of melted down milk crates) and numerous screws loose from the factory. The extruded aluminum receiver obviously requires a minimal amount of machining to complete. Recoil feels vastly different from even a piston AR10, with a hollow plastic-y THOK. The DD5 by contrast feels like it was machined from a solid block of 7075, recoil feels smooth and "damp." Think slamming the door on a early 00's Hyundai versus a Mercedes. If I paid full price for this thing I'd feel like I got paypigged HARD. Despite all that, I already found some factory ammo that shoots just under 0.9 MoA and once I get a load worked up for it I imagine it will be fucking surgical. And from a drip perspective (the reason I bought it) it has an immutable unmistakable presence on any firing line. I'm keeping both.
