Bottom edge of the pouches/belt portion tightened at the hips. They're just belt rigs cinched in the rear to get more real estate up front. They didn't start getting worn up high until westerners combined them with conventional belt rigs. They only rode up as high as they do because AK mags are a lot longer than stripper clips.

i used one in airsoft, kinda shit desu and annoying to take off and adjust.
