Is a 6" 300 Whisper carbine "all you need" for the woodland southeast US? The whitetails are the biggest thing here and they are considered small by US standards. We also have hogs and coyotes but I don't doubt they would fall to 300 Whisper at regular hunting ranges.Has anyone used a 6" or similar specifically? Will I regret it over the 9-10" that people claim is the ideal barrel length?
>>65273724This race to the bottom shit with barrel lengths is gay as fuck
>>65273735No one is running iron sights as primary so there's hardly a need for long barrels anymore. In 300 Blackout you can double your barrel length from 6" to 12" and only get ~15% more velocity. A gun is always carried 99% of the time and shot 1% of the time.
>>65273724>300 WhisperDid you mean .300 Blackout or is there a specific reason why you want a chamber cut for .221 brass rather than .223?Anyway, the reason why you'd get a 5-7" barrel is to keep the OAL reasonable with a long can, and to keep factory subsonics slower when they might start going supersonic with a longer barrel and suppressor. If you're not a stamp collector you should go with the longer barrel.
>>65273735They need to make telescoping barrels so we can enjoy the best of both worlds. I want to have my cake and eat it, too.
>>65273766>In 300 Blackout you can double your barrel length from 6" to 12" and only get ~15% more velocity.which translates to ~50% more muzzle energy
>>652738591.15 ^ 2 = 1.32 i.e. a 32% increase in energyIt doesn't matter because energy is not a measure of a projectile's real world killing power
>>65274008>It doesn't matterit does matter.>energy is not a measure of a projectile's real world killing powerwith appropriate bullet design, it is. if your bullet fails to expand at lower velocities then it's doubly so.
>>65273735Agreed. I want to get a 26" Palma national match whatever with diopter sights, more than I want anything less than 14.5"
>>65273724get a 300blk aug, solves all of your problems desu
>>652737246" only makes sense if you're either running only subs or willing to spring for that one gucci 120gr black magic load that still gets like 1800fps from them and are ok with that eventually becoming unobtainium. Otherwise 9" is as short as you want to go if you want to retain the ability for rifle like performance at close distances with commonly available off the shelf ammo(110 barnes, 110 varmageddon, 110vmax, etc). If you want more range then that you should just get a 5.56.
>>65273724Found the nigger>>65274153The best part is you can switch barrels to 556, or better yet buy a 556 one because 300 chimpout is retarded and gay
>>65274030>sorry Mr. Hunter, I know you just shot me through both lungs with a chunk of hot lead traveling 1,600 FPS that also obliterated my rib and shrapnel'd dozens of bone shards through my chest, but since you didn't have the extra 32% increase in energy, I'm not going to die! You should've listened to that one anon.
>>65273735The meta is eventually going to bottom out at guns with optic riser heights greater than their barrel lengths.
>>65273724SHTF isn't real so get whatever you want
>>65274233You would understand that he's asking this question in regards to hunting, if you were able to read.
>>65273724I hate people who get a short barrel and then put a muzzle forward suppressor on it
>>65274303You very obviously cant fit a reflex on the gun in the op post
