How will chinks ever recover?:https://www.twz.com/air/usaf-wants-air-to-air-missile-with-a-whopping-1000-mile-range
>>65275477My whopping dick has a 1000 mile range
>>65275477The future is satellite AMTI constellations keeping the entire surface of the world under constant surveillance and directing silo based Intercontinental Surface to Air Missiles against anything deemed both threatening and important. Frankly kill chains are beginning to extend so far I’m beginning to wonder if war will really be recognizable to us as war by the end of the century.
>>65275486Thats one hell of a restraining order
>>65275486Get this man strapped to an f-16
>>65275491At that point why even bother building 5th and 6th gen stealth fighter anymore? A B-52 with their Intercontinental range and these super long range AAMs could establish air superiority anywhere around the globe
>>65275556Non peer war mostly. Sensors have come a very long way in a relatively short time. You can read budget documents in a certain way that implies F-47 will be a much more capable striker than F-22 for example, likely being sized to accommodate the same munitions the F-35 can. Meaning they get it will probably really only ever do ground attack stuff. Or the world ends because the war starts in 2040 and both us and china let ai have some say in if the nukes get launched and the battlebots escalated the war too far to quick. There’s probably no manned 7th generation though, and if there is it’s probably just to keep human control close to the front. The CCA autonomy is apparently getting to the point where that “quarterback” role as they put it might be kind of spurious.
>>65275477>wantsI'm sure that the air forces china, russia, and hell even botswana also want such a missile
>>65275491>The future is satellite AMTI constellations keeping the entire surface of the world under constant surveillance and directing silo based Intercontinental Surface to Air Missiles against anything deemed both threatening and important. Until we get Kessler Syndrome a couple days into any relevant war.
>>65275556>At that point why even bother building 5th and 6th gen stealth fighter anymore?A closer fighter can use cheaper missiles. NGAD with AIM120s will be the low side of a high-low mix, these theatre-wide A2As will be the high end.
>>65275477Make a combo drop-tank and ram-jet "booster" for a sidewinder. If no combat it just serves as drop tank.pay me
>>65275634Well yes, naturally the golden age is to be followed by a horrific far future where the wonders of the now past have ruined everything for everyone forever. But that’s somebody else’s problem we are getting into the happy part of the story
>>65275477>How will chinks ever recover?By making a knockoff they can spam at a fraction of the price?
>>65275617>posts /pol/ shit>gets bannedwe live in a society
>>65275477>the USA wants something that they don't have>that means the chinks are ownedI want a billion dollars does that mean I just owned the poors?
The issue isn't making the missile, it's making the systems that can keep this shit on target for 1,000 miles. This requires sensor and targetting information that is much harder to do. So, to get such a range, you need something to keep it on target. To do that, you either need something further ahead than the missile that relays the data... Or you need some other communication system. Which would probably mean putting up satellites with huge antennas and processing power all around the globe, with relay stations in between and fail safes to keep the missile on target.
>>65275774On top of that the hit rate of BVR missiles operating beyond their no-escape zone (which is a fraction of maximum range) are not all that good so realistically to hit a target at such a distance requires launching a spread of these extra long range missiles. At some point you're launching a volley worth several jets just to get half-way decent odds of downing a single one.Not that you don't want it in your arsenal but I expect it to stay a niche threat that exists more to give enemy planners headaches than to land hits.
>>65275774Yes, can it track the Mighty Dragon?
>>65275783It's why the Meteor is the better missile because of larger no-escape zone. Despite Chinese shills screeching their missile is totally better. The only thing I can think of is if you can somehow make a missile with a self-communication system, that goes off what information you had at time, then calculates where the target may be, then 'finds' it via its own sensors. It'd prob be expensive and large, but it'd be something in the arsenal to make planners upset.
>>65275788>a missile with a self-communication system, that goes off what information you had at time, then calculates where the target may be, then 'finds' it via its own sensorsI think that's where current BVR missiles are at but if the enemy aircraft is evading and changing course the amount of space it needs to sweep and the magnitude of the path correction are too great for consistent success. Unless you're firing a spread you need luck that the missile happened to be on mostly the right course already when independent tracking kicks in. Longer ranges make this exponentially worse and so does electronic warfare putting out decoy and jamming signals limiting accurate tracking until you get close (and it compounds because EW becomes more effective, and induced flight path inefficiency costs more, with longer ranges).Because of how people (especially normalfags) respond to numbers and suggestion these missiles are always discussed in terms of maximum range but I think that's like discussing the theoretical maximum on a gun. Technically you could hit something at 2k with a juiced up 7mm but how much does that matter? Like you say the long burn time (and big sensor) on the Meteor is what makes it great. Outside of that range its virtually identical to every other gliding missile but with a much higher price-tag.
>>65275827Also longer range missiles worse at maneuvering.
>>65275584PARK IN BOTSWANA
>>65275634Bro we will most likely get Kessler syndrome before the war even starts by complete accident
Just slap more armor on your jet doe>Oh shit they can slap me from 1000km away and i wont even feel it
>>65275617Nophono cares about your namefag wars tranny
>>65275556The only way I ever see this happening is having an jet/drone/awacs close enough to detect the enemy, while the dedicated missile truck lobs it from near outerspace. So 6th and 5th Gen will still be needed for initial detection and finding a target solution
