They have no concept of guns. He would have to hope they run away from loud noises because getting shot is a complete mystery to them. If he gets swarmed and starts shooting nobody is going stop and look at their friend who suddenly fell over, they'll just assume he tripped. A person being shot falling over is also an assumption, they might not feel it with the adrenaline pumping or it could motivate them to attack faster so they can kill the witch before they die.Look up colonial wars against natives, guns don't magically make people disappear.
if he has a buttload of ammo, like something on the range of 30-50 mags, has perfect recon data showing him how many men are there, where they live and where they hunt and where they shit, enough provisions to last for weeks, and he's a master in hit and run tactics, maybe, just maybe. but it's likely that it will end with his death anyway.

Based on how the NS people behave, if they think you're too much of a threat they just hide in the woods and because they know the woods way more than you do it can be very very hard to track them down. The only time they approach outsiders is if they expect you to give them food or if you're intruding but look harmless to them AKA an easy kill.
