On a random YouTube binge the other week I kept seeing this aussies buying FMTVs to convert into campers. Now after two weeks in the field I gaze lustfully at the medics and their ambulance hmmwv compared to my shitty fox hole. Anyone thought about converting a military vehicle into a camper? While I think that the ambulance hmmwv would be hard to beat something about gutting a contact truck speaks to me. Totally enough room to set up a bed on one side, toss some cooking stuff on the other ect. Sure as shit not getting the up armored version though.

>>65277166These have all come up for auction on or about filename.dat.
>>65277126You'd have to strip out the tool racks, compressor and the like but with a 120 inverter already in that would make a lot of consumer electronics easy to install. Add some batteries in the foot wells by the door and a water tank or two and it wouldn't be too bad. Lot lower head room then the ambulance however so you'd be outside 90% of the time for better or worse
>>65277213Not nessicary. Theres two models on contact truck, one has a much taller box
>>65277126>ambulance hmmwvI would never use a hummer base vehical.>>65277228I have trouble spelling necessary also.
>>65277126actually cool idea too bad some jannie will call it /o/ or something
>>65277160You'd drown in maintenance bills
Cold War surplus vehicles are shit for camping use unless you're getting some niche research vehicle that was designed to be lived in like a arctic circle vehicle. You'll cook in the summer and freeze in the winter, you'd need to essentially insulate the entire cabin.
>>65277279Bouncing around in a LMTV on the highway does not help my dyslexia let me tell you
>>65277323So insulate it? Or are you not handy enough to do that yourself anon?
>>65277462Yeah those pink foam pads would probably fit pretty easily on the walls. The roller doors would be the issue

>>65277126All the up armored shit is just dead weight. Though they they should have AC
>>65277993Is that a train car?!
>>65277996Locomotive.
A comfy camper shell on a DPV would be a pretty cool way to explore. I don't know how practical it would be, but it would be fun.
