On a random YouTube binge the other week I kept seeing this aussies buying FMTVs to convert into campers. Now after two weeks in the field I gaze lustfully at the medics and their ambulance hmmwv compared to my shitty fox hole.
Anyone thought about converting a military vehicle into a camper? While I think that the ambulance hmmwv would be hard to beat something about gutting a contact truck speaks to me. Totally enough room to set up a bed on one side, toss some cooking stuff on the other ect. Sure as shit not getting the up armored version though.

You'd have to strip out the tool racks, compressor and the like but with a 120 inverter already in that would make a lot of consumer electronics easy to install. Add some batteries in the foot wells by the door and a water tank or two and it wouldn't be too bad. Lot lower head room then the ambulance however so you'd be outside 90% of the time for better or worse

You'd drown in maintenance bills

Cold War surplus vehicles are shit for camping use unless you're getting some niche research vehicle that was designed to be lived in like a arctic circle vehicle. You'll cook in the summer and freeze in the winter, you'd need to essentially insulate the entire cabin.

Bouncing around in a LMTV on the highway does not help my dyslexia let me tell you
>>
>>65277323
So insulate it? Or are you not handy enough to do that yourself anon?

>>65277462
Yeah those pink foam pads would probably fit pretty easily on the walls. The roller doors would be the issue

A comfy camper shell on a DPV would be a pretty cool way to explore. I don't know how practical it would be, but it would be fun.
