Kinda depend upon exactly what it is you are trading for. Older clones, even from Springfield Armory, will be filled with USGI parts from issued service rifles. Boutique guns from Fultom Armory are highly priased. Variants like a SOCOM or a National Match have a sweet spot to me. There is a "depth of field" when you say "M1A" that you're not addressing

Finally got one, non-reclaim service grade springfield, 4-45 barrel, 4-45 receiver, new stock. $900 bucks from the cmp alabama store
They still had a few field and service grades on the racks there that were out of stock since at least '24 on the website, and they gave me the hard case for free which I heard they stopped doing a while back
There were also about 15 1903a3s, and maybe 10-12 m1917s, some with white parade stocks and slings
I'm very happy

Protip, spend $500x2 and lube them up and put them away for a year. Then take them to GB. Personally, I would build one and sell one in a couple years down the road. But I still have to get back to Apex for the Lebonese FAL kit, too.

The parade rifles and slings were very cracked, worn and beat up. The muzzle and throat readings were also excessive for me. I want one of the reclaim 1903a3s they had for $900

My last round hold open is unreliable at best on pretty much all my mags. I haven’t bought springfield mags because they’re so damn expensive but I have 5 or 6 surplus mags of various companies (all unmarked but have different finishes or shapes to the feed lips.) does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

>I haven’t bought springfield mags because they’re so damn expensive but I have 5 or 6 surplus mags of various companies (all unmarked but have different finishes or shapes to the feed lips.) does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?
Buy a Springfield mag, if it works just fine then the other mags have a weak spring. Buy more springs and replace them.

From what I can tell, the followers aren’t pushing the bolt catch far enough up. I’ve held it open to give the follower more time to settle with no luck, and also tried opening the feed lips on a couple to get more travel. Which resulted in pic related. It’s definitely possible but it’s hard to believe that all the mags are bad instead of the common denominator.

>>65284567
You say springfield, but you mean checkmate, right? Those are the only M14 mags I'd recommend getting.
>>65284637
Not sure what an SFAR is but a PTR is cheaper to manufacture, stamped sheet metal receiver and roller delayed blowback, with high quality surplus parts (at least they used to have those). The M1A has much tighter tolerances, and I would think is more expensive to produce, springfield never had the benefit of surpluses machinery to use like PTR did, and they ran out of USGI parts over 20 years ago.
>>
>>65284637
They appeal only to boomers who are the wealthiest demographic. Companies are chasing paypig mentality to stay profitable

Specialized tooling for a product geared toward a more niche market. ARs and G3s are simply cheaper and easier to manufacture.

Their new thing now is to constantly shoot down any idea of ANY FAL imports from Argentina or Brazil not that there's a good chance anyway but they sure are proud to claim to he the only FAL manufacturer left on the planet. Seems like modern AR10s just lose whatever secret sauce it was that makes AR15s 90% reliable. LMTs are probably the only make I'd trust for actual MilSpec durability. >>65284372 There's actually strong evidence Karl Lewis was one of the first people to successfully reverse engineer the original Colt M16 lowers which led to his companies PWA and Eagle Arms being successful while other 80s AR makers were billet machining or obtaining forges through shady means or abroad. Look into the history of Sendra, Olympic, Springfield and there's a lot of hijinks. DSA only exists because the only bought Sendra's shuttered warehouse at auction after the feds went after the owners for being too based.
With another wave of AR company deaths occurring right now including Aero where I've heard their QC fell off a cliff with covid it seems like the only straightforward way to budget an AR10 project into being is buying a PA10 upper and lower separately. I'm no fan of PSA but they seem better than the alternative (BearCrapArmory) for readily available uppers.
>I just sorta want a cheap blaster Carbine model'd after this
I've had an AR10A2 (WestromLite) but some old retard owner before me put a 1lb trigger in it and it was overgassed to the point of questionable reliability. Couldn't find any replacement parts that would fit so I'm not doing Armalite again. Just want a jungle blaster LR308 without having to deal with dead companies parts bullshit

>>

Hear me out, I would ditch the scope, add stripper clip guide (because), add a Turner Saddlery M1907 sling, watch the video on how to install and use it, upgrade your sights to National Match grade, add a rear sight hood, put some lamp black on your new 0.062" width front sight and get out to a high power shoot. For good measure, put an M14 combi tool in your butt hole, unironically, of course. Also, scopes are for fags.

Okay, your run of the mill ptr91 will be more accurate than your run of the mill m1a as it is free floated where the m1a can never truly be
I love the m14 and the garand action as a whole a lot more than roller delay, but be realistic
>>

Given Imbel is making 5.56 rifles and FM has been absent from the FAL market for a couple of decades I would agree with DSAs observation of being the last man standing for FAL production. Having just bought a 50.61 pattern from them and my Israeli receiver from them a few years ago they are doing a good job at least. Debating on getting another receiver from them to build out a Lebanese kit..would be kind of funny to have it next to my Israeli FAL in my closet. My main gripe with DSA is the lack of metal mags.
>>
>>65286359
Just keep checking their website or Keep Shooting for new manufacture mags. My advice is stack when they're in stock and save up for a 300+ dollar haul.
>>
>>65285491
This is what turns me off for the m1a and the stock. Love the aesthetics but it just comes across as needing more than a g3 or fal in comparison.
>>

Hail, and fair well!
>>
>>65278026
Is there any actual combat data on the wound differences between 308 and 556 cartridges?
>>
>>65286993
I agree, it takes a lot more to accurize, though I think an accurized M14 (M21) will shoot better than an accurized FAL at max performance.
>>
>>65287727
When I get rich I'll get a m1a to play with.
>>
>>65287732
You might just get lucky one day and find a good one locally. If you want a decent rifle you can readily and (fairly inexpensively) accurize just get the loaded one. Its got a match barrel, just not a unitized gas piston and not a bedded stock (much lighter). I paid 1,700 for my national match about 8 months ago.
>>
>>65285511
>That won't make a difference
Who ae these people?
>>
>>65286359
Those kits finally dried up on CFS last week because of a Colorado boomer retard panic buyers post. Some people have been reporting fitment issues on falfiles lately. You either seem to get a perfect receiver that goes right together or a warped POS apparently. They are the only game in town for Type 2 and Type 1 uppers and I'd recommend them over gambling on a used Coonan or something. If you live got a Type 3 lower just get an imbel upper and call it a day

I didn't exactly want it in that model then or there but I couldn't resist the deal
one of the employees at the sporting goods store won it as a prize in a shooting match, but he didn't want or need it so immediately had it in mind to sell it for quick cash to pay for his fishing trip
he was asking $1650 for what was essentially a brand new, unused, premium match-grade rifle that he literally came into possession of that day, and I happened to go to the store that day asking about prices on M1As and was discouraged to say the least - the cheapest grade I'd be lucky to walk out with it under $2300 after the regular and Newscum taxes, and the Loaded model would have been more like $2700, so after the 50 dollar transfer fee I got it essentially a thousand bucks off

You got a good deal. I've said it earlier in this thread, and in other threads but I think the loaded is the best "first" M1A to get. You get a match barrel and I think trigger without the match rear sight and bedded stock.

Happy birthday and happy birthday America. Your 30's are what you make of it. I slacked off for the first half and I'm paying for it now but if you just don't do that then you'll be fine.

>10 day waiting period
This just makes sense for California. Everyone there is two ticks from a night club shooting or rando road rages. Basically borderline psychics. I hope these next 10 days heal you and you cool off from OJ mode and you stabilize to a more nominal Nebraska mode. And stop making fun of "Fly-over states". It's very insensitive.

I think it's an AIM Sports brand.

Searching for FAL mlok handguard will yield something to that effect.

I felt that I was worth it. I only have the vert on it right now. I typically push it as far forward as possible but you do have to be careful with the gas. I could do some over bore but it does feel uncomfortably close to the heat. I guess it depends on your hand anatomy and comfort zone.

how is the aim sports one? Does it lock up solid? I like the look more than the DSA one with the cleaner mlok top rail. Kind of apprehensive about metal handguards (I had the stg cast ones) cause they heat up mighty quick. Same problem with those?
>>
>>65303657
>how is the aim sports one?
It's ok, my friend has one. Won't fit inch guns unlike a VLTOR though
>>
>>65303161
I have never made fun of "fly-over states". In fact, I never use that term - I call them flatlanders, because I can't live in an area with under 300 feet elevation from the lowest topographical point to the highest. Give me Montana, give me Arizona, give me Texas, give me Kentucky, but for God's sake don't put me in Kansas or Indiana.
>>
hypothetically, what if i were to go for a considerably front heavier quad rail setup instead of MLOK so that my gun looks cooler? what's the track record on that
>>
>>65304128
Calm down, psycho. Your 10 day cool-off period isn't over yet. No need to "fly off the handle", what ever that means.
>>
Are M1A Archangel stocks halal? LGS is running a sale for the weekend and the only M1A they have has it.
>>
>>65303657
>>65303667
I didn't know that about the pattern compatibility. I never had issues with it but then again DSA is overwhelmingly metric pattern oriented. So I guess buyer beware with that information.

I like it, I don't have many attachments on it so I think the mlok pattern, at the very least, lends itself to a nice patchwork of ports for air cooling.

It's more of a target gun than anything so I don't see myself ever running it to the point where it's a concern. I'd imagine if you start adding rail covers and other attachments then that would further insulate everything but I've never had too much of an issue.

Gen 1 SCAR 17 with a 13" barrel. Elcan or 1-8x LPVO? Using as a battle rifle.

Elcans are overrated and while lpvos can be good they are hit or miss (pun semi intended). Since you're just using a 13" go with the acog. either the ta31 or ta11

Saturday = Range day. Re-zeroed the L1A1 but it's a bit tricky to get the windage right (you loosen and tighten screws on opposite sides of the rear sight base - the screws click but the clicks don't mean anything, it's roughly half turn = 2 in at 100 yads but actually more like "figure it out Tommy". But there were just 2 of us at a 100 m range and had plenty of time.
