The stormtroopers already carry a couple of extra 500 round mags, a thermal detonator, food and water and a grappling hook (for some reason) just on their belt, their carbine collapses so small that they carry it in a holster and all their comms and electronics is contained in their helmet along with a respirator. They really only need a few extra grenades, maybe some bacta shots but I'm not sure medical procedures in SW would be the same as ours, since anything that penetrates is probably fatal. Obviously Id have them scale up for different roles, but looking at the extra pouches they wear in the sandtrooper and scout roles, it seems like they already do that; and for a standardized getup, the regular stormtrooper is very well equipped.

If you live you'll be on your ass and out of the fight but at least you're not dead and bacta is a thing. It's exaggerated in Rebels with literally every stormtrooper acting like that but that's generally how it's going to be for the lucky guys. It was described like that in the EU too. The armor plates are EXTREMELY durable barring defects, the bodysuit is easily penetrated. One of the tradeoffs of better ergonomics was more exposed bodysuit. Getting whacked on the plate with a blunt object is still going to hurt just like it would in medieval full plate. Energy transfer is a bitch. If I'm remembering right it was during the Fel Empire when it finally got good enough to tank a typical shot dead on.
