its competition season, just finished up among the top ten of my states ordnance rifle championship. Swedish Mauser 1899 Oberndorf production with a Vasteras back sight.

All these guys are reloading but dont group much better than me with standard s&b. lol.
>>
Mf there are competitions with 100 years old rifles?

yep there are. and these competitions are very comfy because zero stress or envy (exept maybe for nicer rifles). old warhorses in good condition group tightly but its a challenge to get the accuracy out of an english stock and tiny military backsight notches.
the shitty ergos make a bigger luck factor in opposite to the issf rifle competitions which tailor the rifles ergonomy to the shooter.

usually used are: m96 or m38 swedish mausers, a3 springfields, all the gp11 swiss although g11 and k31 rule, long 7mm south american mausers, finn nuggets, original sniper nuggets, no4 enfields, p14/p17 enfields. mostly longbois.

there are short rifle competitions too, m94s and m95s (the masochist rifle) or the occasional gebrigsjäger carbine can be found here.

its for fun, discussing surplus rifles and ammo, having a beer or two.
>>
>>65308903
Where are these competitions held? I could borrow my friends israeli mauser98

Also i suppose they wouldnt be ok with modern optics on it
>>
For me? Sako. Always Sako.
>>
I shoot mostly handguns cuz its fun, i love vz61, out of rifles vz58 all the way.

I shoot casually at a gun range, never really was into competition stuff it doesnt appeal to me, i just like to tak few guns to the range and fire few hundereds of rounds down the range
>>
>>65308917
go to your local shooting range and look at the blackboard, the dates should be there, ask someone there. joining a club puts you in the email list. the ÖSB has the dates on its site too.

about the rifle, if you can still use the (original) open sights, its no problem, just put caps on the lenses when shooting a comp, so the range officer isnt confused, lol.
there are many sniper competitions which allow a max. magnification of 4x if its a new scope (to resemble a Zielvier). otherwise, given original sniper rifle prices, there wouldn be many competitors.

so what are you shooting?
pistols/revolvers or rifles?
i have both but mainly go rigles because handgun is more training intensive to hit properly. and im lazy.
>>
>>65309153
I think pistols are more fun due to them requiring more skill
>>
>>65308951
Finland has similar stuff but it's even more dead because everyone into this stuff is one foot in the grave
I get to take my L1A1 to the annual SAHS competition however
>>
>>65309501
i have never seen something like that in czechia, we do have competitions but they arent as popular as in the rest of europe, the shooting here in general is way less competetive it seems

Tried out my recently bought TIGR on our range today. With cheapo Wolf steelcase it will do ~5cm groups from a cold barrel, which opens up to about 6-7cm when really hot. With the ol' reliable, S&B 180gr FMJ, it consistently did 3cm groups even from a hot barrel. My best was 26mm.
But most important: I had fun and two coworkers that tried it out as well also had fun.
>>
>>65309501
im the youngest with 46 in my club / austria but no op
my comp. rifle is a m28/30 btw., Simo the man knew

I shoot my L1A1 at the biggest (10) gasport opening that allows to cycle, quite comfy and very accurate like 5-8cm groups at 100m

What's your go to bolt action combat rifle for when they inevitably take away your automatics guys? Ruger scout, CZ trail? My holy grail would be
>.308
>10 rounds mag
>can top off mag
>Irons AND optics
Mighty hard to find.
There's the german steel action straight pull, but it has no irons and is supposedly very susceptible to dirt. I want a combat rifle, not a range queen.
>>
>>65310026
take away? like the government? it would be shame if some masked criminal that i dont know and left no fingerprints would "steal" it before the government can.

however im not really affraid of any restrictions as of right now our gun laws are blooming

but to answer your question, i have no idea
>>
>>65309900

Jesus there's something wrong with your gun, I think the absolute minimum gas mine will cycle with is 6, if I'm shooting commercial .308 because they're hotter. With surplus it's 4 or 3.

dont get the Arctic the "iron sights" on it suck balls. Way too fragile and sloppy. Instead find more normal T3X with backup irons
>>
>>65310299
Arguably it can be cheaper to get a Remington 700 and find an AICS stock or similar for it and have a gunsmith install iron sights as a custom job
But that depends on your gunsmith's pricing

We do, it's just not advertised. Check webpages of a few shooting ranges, esp. semi-commercial and club ones, and you will see scoreboards from past competitions and often also "propozice" for upcoming events.
Quite a lot of pistol events including regional bullseye matches for service type guns and the "LOS League" that's kinda like IDPA with extra emphasis on concealed carry and taking cover.
Also enough rifle events including matches or categories specifically for Vz. 58 semis or milsurps, rifle events under LOS, rifle matches under KVZ reservists clubs etc. If you are willing to travel, you should be able to attend a rifle match every month somewhere. Usually on sundays.
BTW there's even a biannual 500 m blackpowder rifle match.

The catch is that last time many of the shooting clubs and ranges actualized their webs is around 2022 so it can be a frustrating experience looking for a specific match.
t. Czech who does not compete but knows about some of the events

>there's something wrong with your gun
Are you sure?

Anon's rifle doesn't work on setting 12 (as it shouldn't, it's the "vent all" position), short strokes at 11, starts working at 10 and cycles all the way to setting 1 "no vent" AKA "ultraviolence". Yours seem to have a far narrower usable gas setting range, the old farts from Bong Army claim the rifle should run reliably somewhere around 6...
>>
>>65311767
Isn't ultraviolence 0? Or is it just the Aussies that have a 0 setting
>>
>>65311851
My bad, it is indeed 0. Didn't have my SLR at hand to check. Also 12 is actually unmarked as there's no space under the notch.

I'm blasting mainly commercial/hunting 308s thru mine, which are said to be hotter loaded.

>>65310336

>>65310026
k98 or its butchered hunting rifle derivates, almost indestructible, ammo and spares can be found easily. available: everywhere, esp. the hunters and these are cheap.
>>

>butchered hunting rifle derivates
Are you seriously advocating that people buy old Parker Hale Safaris? My friend bought one for a case of beer, that's how little they're worth
>>
>>65312004
>k98 or its butchered hunting rifle derivates
in denmark they were mostly turned into 6.5 sport rifles
got mine in 8mm tho, as the fuhrer intended
>>

i have a full stock/Stutzen which was made from cut down a chilean m98 1912 longboi in 7mm somewhen in the 1970s, with an old but flawless kahles helia4 on a suhl 4 point claw mount and irons/see thru. cost me 350 threefiddy euros from an retiring hunter.
i get 5 shots on a 2 euro coin with it, rando factory ammo.

every new ruger-plastic-stock-etc. will cost 3x this, no irons. modern low-medium budget scopes are still eye cancer compared to a 50 year old, well kept kahles or zeiss.

so yes, although cheap, old 98 hunting rifles made from actual blacksmiths with quality hand scopes are en par with all new shit easily. you better like fudd engravings tho.
same goes for old tikkas, sakos, sabbatis, sauers etc... they have usually a 3 digit shot count and are better made than modern stuff.
>>
>>65312470
>old Euro scopes
Nah, fuck that. I actually prefer older Leupolds because they're a lot of bang for the buck
My friend's Parker Hale is actually a pretty funny rifle, the bolt wobbles when you cycle the thing and it seems to hate everything that contains lead. But put copper solid ammo in it and it turns into a laser rifle

Anyone make high cap internal magazines for mauser actions? A couple years ago there was the trench magazine for the K98, but it has 20 rounds cap and is therefore illegal in cuckrope, if it is even still made.
Of course, using a mauser action to fend off you know who is extremely stylish. Like I did in red orchestra, or my grandpa possibly did IRL.

I guess there's the mossberg mvp but I hear quality is iffy on those mossberg rifles. I'd rather trust the ruger, but it uses AICS mags for .308.

Scope would be state of the art red dot or maybe low magnification/red dot combo. I think euopean gunsmiths can mount basically any scope on any rifle, so I'm not worried about that.
>>
>>65312931

We have awful politicians, everything is burning and fucked up. The only reason we have sensible gunlaws and were like the only eu country where are gunlaws getting more and more relaxed with every law change is frankly due to the pro gun lobby and because everyone is sort of in on it. Plus the czech society in general rather progun than antigun

>Czechs buy more guns because of the good laws
>Czech arms companies make more money
>They have more money to bribe politicians
>Politicians are relaxing gun laws
>People dont oppose it because people are armed

It is a scheme but i would say the type of scheme thats beneficial to everybody

>I'm blasting mainly commercial/hunting 308s
I made a good stash of German milsurp 7,62 NATO over a couple years so that's what I shoot most of the time. I believe I have my regulator set to 6 or 5, the rifle cycles on higher settings too, esp. when shooting prone, but in certain shooting positions with less resistance from my shoulder I would occasionally get a stovepipe or failure to feed so I gave it a click or two more gas for reliability.
First time I played with the gas regulator I shot it prone, where the buttstock rests against a bone and has my whole body weight behind it, and set it for mild cycling. Got rather surprised when I stood up and fired offhabd and the rifle started short-stroking on me. Had to redo the settings, unfortunately there's no "scientific" way how to do that on inch pattern rifle without LRBHO, unlike metric FALs where you set the gas so that the bolt just catches open on last round and then you give it 2 more clicks for safety.

BTW I clean the rifle quite religiously, but will try poking the gas port with a wire or smth next time.
>>
I wish I went for a cool older rifles like you guys but all the good ones I missed by days before they got snapped up. Shooting a Turkshit that's labelled as sub-MOA but it quite frankly feels like a lie. Thinking of getting a Tikka T3x next.

Danish surplus is covered in some grease-like gunk so you have to increase oomph so the cases don't just barely fall out

ah I should check out the ÖSB too

getting good at shooting is still a long way to go
Can't aim for shit with my stock G17.
2 more years and I have 5 slots in my WBK, time for another pistol or revolver.

Also, buying a gun safe rated for "5 long guns" is so retarded, like pic related
2 long guns + a small shelf for handgun, all the ammo and other stuff, that's it.
One Kat.B and one Kat.C rifle, when I am moving it is time for a bigger safe.

Glock 17 Gen5 is sighted for combat hold???
this explains why I shoot so fucking low all the time
just googling how to properly aim a Glock never told me to check for center or combat hold

I think I will just swap the stock plastic sights
at 15 meters distance the front sight fully covers the black inner ring of the target and I can't see shit
for 7 meters it might be fine but I can't even image shooting 25 meters with the factory sights

or is it really just some hardcore skill issue?
and I think I should ask that in /hgg/
