Yeah, I'm thinking the Empire is back.https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/uk-to-build-all-eight-anglo-dutch-assault-ships/
>>65317757>their only carrier group doesnt even have enough people to go around WHEN it actually can sail off without any of the ships breaking down and now they want even more ships
I think it looks cute
>>65317780Depends on the types who are designing and building them>Barnes Wallace autistic shed demonslegit wunderwaffe paradigm shift>ex British Leyland engineershorribly expensive crew deathtrapThere is no middle ground in Bri'ish engineering. You either get gold or mold
>>65317757Why the fuck are the Dutch not building their own? They were once one of the premier European naval powers.
>>65317786>designing It seems Damen will be doing a lot of that work.>BuildingHarland & Wolff/Navantia
>>65317757Britain hasn't built a single good warship above 7000 tons since WWI
>>65317757How do you say "impressive" in an exaggerated bong accent?
>>65317818I mean you are already using English
With what fucking money lmao
>>65317792They're a stupid meme country since 1672
>>65317757>Britain buildingn-nah im good mate.
>>65317849That's Just Dutch Things, soon as they're out of sight and any responsible adults- someone is going to be murdered, eaten, raped and declare themselves emperor
>>65317757Lol I'm trying to get on this project now the Type 81 has been revised to be a General purpose Cruiser. Its a strange time for surface warfare design and construction.
>>65317792The biggest Dutch shipbuilder/defense company (Damen) is experiencing quite a few issues currently. They are involved in criminal proceedings on suspicion of sanction busting (sanctions imposed on Russia) and they fumbled a huge German navy order of multiple frigates because of significant delays and cost increases. They are competent designers but scaling production seems to be a challenge they're unable to overcome.
>>65317792They haven't been relevant since the War of Spanish Succession.
>>65317882Not to mention that the largest ship they built recently (that light drone carrier for the Portuguese) was constructed in the ass-end of nowhere (Galatz, Romania).
>>65317757BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>65317757It's crazy they can build ships at all
>>65317757i think this is a more accurate concept picture of how it will look. btw, this plan was aborted by the brits earlier because it didnt fit their requirements and the Dutch weren't willing to budge on the design. And now they are back and the design didn't change. sound like the Brits are a bit desperate. What made them crawl back?
>>65317792The large Dutch remaining shipyards are mostly staffed by foreigners (Poles, Romanians) in welding etc. Damen builds mostly in Romania and the last bit superstructure is done domestically. For the UK that shipyard is owned by Navantia I believe, which could be useful as the flattop might be based on Enforcer design. >>65318008No, pic related is the latest 2026 render releast by Dutch acquisition agency responsible for design, Dutch navy has internal bespoke designs constructucted and won't buy as-is from Damen, that's why these designs feature seperately on Damens' website. It's a flattop and the AI renders I've seen as in OP image are based on a 2024 concept.
>>65317818Just imagine Nigel Thornberry saying "smashing"
>>65318082So your picture is a more accurate design of whats to come? Given these ships are replacing the Holland class and the Rotterdam class (which is retarded if you look how different their purposes are and where they operate normally) the fuck is this thing? This whole fucking thing doesnt make any sense at all... Im just getting more confused the more i learn about this project.
>>65318161It's a 15k tons troop transport. Think the Mistral.
>>65318161Yes and confirmed by Dutch navy officers, flattop would have advantages wrt future drone warfare needs I suppose over traditional design. The close littoral warfare is also changing to faster landing craft put out from further at sea. The Holland class is a peace dividend mistake only useful in lower threat spectrum (piracy, drug boats) and with a growing fleet those tasks could be served by other means. Amphibious staging is an important Dutch requirment and there is a lot of shared commonality and repsonsibilties (JEF, NATO AoR in Norway). I'd vaguely recall they mentioned containerized weapons as on the MSS project too. At least for the Dutch going from 4 OPV, 2 LPD (though larger) to 4 ATS and drone potential seems sensible. UK participation this late as with their new 'hybrid navy' seems like non-proven, cost cutting measure to me though. Pic slightly rel is an early 00's enforcer 169-180m concept.
>>65318283>cost cutting measure to me thougIt seems to me a hugely expensive endeavour, you are decoupling each component and giving them a hull, sensors and engines. So the price can only be much higher.
>>65318161European naval doctrine seems to be converging on this style of medium-size LHD as a jack of all trades sea control platform that uses drones to project power over much greater distances than older style patrol corvettes while still being able to support amphibious operations
>>65317792Building chip making machines it seems.
This article details fundamental changes to the Dutch marine corps and their shifting focus to littoral raiding force, advance force operations ''one family of amphibious forces'' and focus on the high north. https://marineblad.nl/artikel/littoral-raiding-force-czsk-specialized-advance-amphibiousThe equipment focus as opposed to most other forces and the UK is to go even lighter and every Dutch marine to receive combat life saver training.
>>65317757with what money? what resources?
>>65318008>What made them crawl back?the total collapse of their navyalso they want ships with lower minimum crew requirements because of how low naval recruitment is these days
>>65317757>UK to build eight shipsYou'll get three ships, delivered a decade late at quadruple the original budget. British military procurement is such a disaster it makes US pork barrel projects look like a model of parsimony in comparison.
>>65317757those ships look rather useless, they just carry a few helicopters and small drones?kek
>>65317757>building for amphibious assault in the year of our lord 2026Off to a bad start>amphibious assault in the high arctic like GreenlandGetting worse>put a well deck on it so it has much worse survivability than a regular warshipThis is not looking good>No CATOBAR or ski jump, or aircraft elevators, so range will be shit, utility will be shit, sortie rate will be shit, and Air wing size will be tiny. Are you EuroBros okay? This is one of the most retarded designs and operational concepts I have ever seen, and that's after having worked with marines for 7 years.
>>65319796
So Beans-on-toast Mississippi thinks it can buy four smaller ships in less than a century, huh?
>>65318552You sound like another butthurt zigger. The UK has been supremely relevant in the realm of naval warfare, information warfare against Putin / Vance / etc, and generally serving as a nerve centre for global efforts to counter Russian influence.
>>65318082This is the 2024 concept btw, it seems the fixed self defense suit is moved to the rear notches, the design seems larger and possibly a hangar in the rear bit of the superstructure.
>>65318008The fact that they are being paid to build them?
>>65317757lol I'll believe it when I see it.
>>65317792Small indie country, please understand
>>65317757Depressing. Its so small pic related buy 6 of these at auction instead. You can help with the pipeline and cable de-attrition effort.
So it's like a landing helicopter dock. Did /k/ forget about those?
>>65326887>zigger tears It’s ok, don’t cry
>>65318082>>65318390Emerging domestic solutions for containerized weapons (as also fitted to low manned/unmanned missileers) can be the Destinus series or nyan one way jet-powered strike drone. Harop is/was also considered for the MSS.
