USMC $5k FPV Drone
>>65319804>EFP>AND almost 1kg of C4Thats a lot of boom.
>>65319804Neat
>>65319804Is tungsten really necessary for a fpv wh instead of cheap steel?
>>65319827Is lead necessary for a bullet instead of cheap zinc?
>>65319827>top 10 ways to reveal you haven't done an iota of reading about the terminal ballistics of fragmentationYes. Tungsten is the supreme king of preformed shrapnel. Imagine the difference between a soft point rifle bullet and a FMJ pistol round; tungsten is that good.
>>65319811It's great to see western weapons tech realizing that it's okay to have a generously sized warhead for precision weapons. It's one of those gwot lessons learned. But 1kg fill is on the high side for a drone meant as a directional frag charge vs small groups. A Switchblade with tungsten prefrag and CL20 fill does the exact same with a ~250g warhead; it's just not as useful for omnidirectional grenading of a random room.
>>65319947Zinc is nearly twice the price of lead.
>>65319984Why not use rocks?
>>65319963NTA but at the extreme close ranges that drones engage their targets, wouldn't the density of the shot be negligible?
>>65319991Too big a risk of them outsmarting you.
>>65319994Well, styrofoam's not gonna work great at any range, but yes, steel might be good enough. Of course, it also has to be expensive enough for the defence contractors to bother...
>>65319994Did you consider that using tungsten fragments increases the attack range so the operator can detonate it farther away for clearer view of the killzone?
>>65319994guy lost his head by the way
>>65320038In the many years of drone kill vids from Ukraine, ive never seen any drones self detonate outside of like a 50 foot sphere of death. They only ever go right up their targets ass or do an EFP kill. And would the operator be blind after blowing up his drone? What view of the kill zone would be available to the kill drone operator unless he was/is also the observer drone operator.
>>65320061yeah, and why do you think that is, dummy? The answer is multicausal. First Ukrainians are using shitty impact fuzes instead of generic western or mid-tier (like turkish) lidar fuzes. Two, they're using big fat slow warheads; because 1) they're too poor and low-tech for premium purpose designs 2) they're using a battlefield marketplace optimizing for confirmed kills instead of traditional military tactics 3) they're used to this meta and don't feel like changing, it's what they know works even through technically its unoptimized. 4) these FPVs aren't getting used as scouting kamikazes in the sense western commentators think or soldiers train. They're used like slower artillery: A Mavic or heavy hexacopter spots, and the FPV is subsequently launched. It's a slow bitch compared to a 155mm.If you're a white nation instead of slavic, and don't need to make wire coathanger fuzed analog fpvs which kill 1 out of 1000 of the men launching them through being dogshit, you're going to make a drone which fits 1st world standards instead. You'll spend $20 extra on a lidar fuze and $2000 extra on quality software and radios, and at that point, you're not gonna want to be a retard about logistics, so spend $300 extra on a good warhead. >>65319994Come on senpai. Engage a 100IQ level of thinking and reverse engineer it. How many frags per square meter. What detonation range. How big a payload. How doe that affect your loiter time and speed. Do the math. tl;dr you can use steel if you must, but it's an objective downgrade.
>>65319804and it only costs ten times as much as the Ukrainian version
>>65319804>using tungsten frags for potentially mass produced warhead while china banned tungsten exports Don't think it is wise move.
>>65322131You see when you're flying a kilogram of C4 directly into someone's chest it's absolutely vital that you use tungsten fragments because otherwise their body armor will stop it.
>600-700 dollar drone max with a 5 grand payloadlol, lmao they should just make a shaped copper charge or use cheap steel bbs on the cheap and be done with it.
>>65322142Drone price is written in op.It's $2000
>>65322142>just make a shaped copper chargeThey made such (EFP) warhead see op. Costs $2915 total while C4 explosives of this warhead costs $70...
Looks like its just a FPV drone, no target tracking in the terminal stage.https://youtube.com/watch?v=rge0u9BYqQsAsko question for drone fags. Is FUTABA T16IZ SUPER good?
