Why aren't there artisinal rifle plates fitted to the wearer for high speed operators?
>>
Multicurve is fitted enough, any more tapering to the figure risks introducing weak points.
>>
Imagine being the logistics officer who has to deal with ordering a dozen "Dave" plates, 15 "James" plates, 6 "Hank" plates etc, and the headache when you accidentally send Fred's plates to Fredrick.
>>
>>65320883
because nobody would buy it. imagine a cuirass made out of composite, it would weigh 20 pounds a half. 30 pounds if it was steel. it would be expensive.
>>
>>65320883
anyone rich enough to get that shit for themselves
a)doesn't have to go to war
b)simply wears something much more expensive and powerful called "a fighter jet"
>>
>>65320883
Because we'd have to buy another one every couple years as we get fatter
>>
>>65320909
Peascod shaped ceramic breastplates could be nice upgrade over standard SAPI for better coverage.
>>
>>65321602
but more weight. no free lunch
>>
>>65321602
There has been many many projects for increased or even full body coverage with rifle level protection.

No one wants to wear that shit. It's only use is for law enforcement where they have to make entry to a building instead of blowing it up
>>
>>65321769
Agreed. The latest play is VelSys' WRAITH carrier, using 20% greater coverage plates. 20% more coverage means 20% more weight, which means plate weights are gonna get ugly fast.
The very lightest commercially available Level IV plates are just barely below 5lb. The lightest upcoming is the Adept Emperor at 4.55lb +- 0.05, so call it 4.6. You're looking at 5.52lb a plate in the Wraith cut, and well over $4,000/set given the 10x12s are about 3,500 a pair.

>20% more coverage means 20% more weight
This doesn't contradict your conclusion but this is wrong, the more mass of armor the more efficient each unit of weight is.
Regardless you need a quite large increase for this efficiency to matter, and on the scale of human portable armor it (the efficiency gain from larger mass of armor) doesn't really matter.

>It's only use is for law enforcement where they have to make entry to a building instead of blowing it up
Yeah this is something like that I have in mind
>>
>>65322206
Thank you chief but that's squares and we're talking 9.5x12.5 versus an awkward heavily angled cut. It's 1:1 at this point.
>Regardless you need a quite large increase for this efficiency to matter, and on the scale of human portable armor it (the efficiency gain from larger mass of armor) doesn't really matter.
You spent your saturday agreeing with me by disagreeing with me?
>>
>>65322229
Yes and I explained this in my post rendering yours pointless to make
>>
>>65322231
but your entire post was pointless unless we were talking battleship armor.
Huh.

Something blew up, didn't it?
>>
>>65322240
>but your entire post was pointless
Good thing I started the post with
>This doesn't contradict your conclusion
To let you know this
>>
>>65322247
I admire your autism. It would appear neither of us are fun at parties.
>>
>>65322247
NTA, but you clearly just brought up some technical minutia that's completely irrelevant to the conversation at hand because you wanted to correct someone and look smart for knowing the square-cube law. no one cares if 20% more coverage equals 20.01% more mass within the scope of the conversation at hand.
>>65322253
overly complicating things and failing to recognize the scope of the conversation is stupid, not admirable. there's a difference between not being fun at parties because you infodump autistic shit (cool) and not being fun at parties because you act like a jackass (lame).
>>
>>65322282
I was uh... being sarcastic.
>>
>>65322282
Your disapproval is meaningless to me. I am correct both literally because I contradicted a factually wrong statement and morally because I prefaced my correction with the acknowledgement it was pointless to avoid mental strain on the corrected.
> no one cares if 20% more coverage equals 20.01% more mass
This is wrong, although I will assume you know this and what you typed isn't what you meant. In case anyone doesn't it should be the opposite, 20% more coverage equals 19.99% more mass (that's the gist of the concept, the numbers in all cases are made up)
>>
>>65322306
This is 40k adeptus administratum levels of pointless redundancy
Allow me to change the matter to something more productive

RMA SUCKS

You know if you lay off the mutton and mead for once you don’t have go full Henry VIII…
