i boughted enough axial shift v3 spare parts to last a literal lifetime+, now i can use and service broken components or missing/stripped screws on my shifts looooong after the company stops producing or supporting it.... Also, for some reason they recently stopped selling spare parts at all on their website. Strange.

>>65322320Christ is King
>>65322320I can understand the 110 but why on God's green Earth would you ever spend $500 on that 119
>>65322320>Buck USA 250th Anniversary 110 and 119> >$500Seriously?
What is the advantage of a kukri over a normal knife? It's more difficult to make it that shape, even, so there must be something.
>>65322304i think we should learn from the people with actual experience committing knife attacks. They have much to teach us. If you're going to defend yourself with a knife, use something like this that you can conceal inside your palm and carve the fuck out of someone, they're mortally wounded before they even realize there's a weapon in the altercation, consequence of adrenaline. Then by that point even if they escalate too your odds of survival are much higher than if you both started on the same foot.
>>65322384The shape and weight distribution makes them choppier than a regular knife or machete.
>>65322394This.>>65322384it's better at chopping than a pocket knife or kabar. young trees or... other things. ask your local french muslim. the advantages vary depending on the context. it's a tool primarily, in foraging or general camp use. in a military context when not wielded by a nepalese soldier it is generally for slaughtering, not combat or self-defense.
>>65322343>>65322382Because I have plenty of hard-use fixed blades, but never owned a 119. Since I'm not going to actually use it, just admire it, I thought this was the best looking one and didn't care about the steel. The handle is exceptionally crafted and I feel that I got my moneys worth. Knives and guns are the only things I "waste" money on
Reposting the JoergSprave folding kukri again. This could be really cool if he's willing to iterate a bit. Right now:-POB is right where a crossguard would be and thanks to the mass of the grip overall, it really does feel almost backweighted. Heavier forward POB would make it more pleasant to use-The threaded rod you can insert to lock the tang is really not that good, the threads arent that tight and the little triangle ring to turn it is wimpy. I'd say use the same system the Swiss had on the receiver pins for the STGW57 where you push in the spring loaded end caps which withdraw the material horizontally that holds the pin in place, then you just pull the pin out.-Aluminum handle part is incredibly slippery even with the texturing. G10 or rubberized overlay would solve this-Blade pivot is pretty smooth. Handle pivot at the bottom fucking sucks. I'm not expecting Microtech or Staccato levels of smoothness, but at least use hardware that is easier to undo so I can autistically smoothen it out with a dremel and polishing compound if I want. -The biggest drawback to me is when you compare it to the sheath it sits in when folded, it isnt that much longer. A fixed blade kukri for the same 350 I paid for this with a leather sheath or even a locking kydex one would blow it out of the water. Frankly I don't really know the best course of action past that, maybe some weird complex shape of the grip scales that collapse? Once the blade is longer than the grip, the shortest you can make a folding knife is the blade length and the longer it gets, the less the grip length matters proportionately. I am usually one who advocates for ludicrous size knives but I think this might be better off as a slimmed down pocket kukri with a 5-6" blade, rounding the handles, and making the action smoother. At the size it is, theres no reason to choose it over a dedicated fixed blade tool. But a little bit smaller and it could be a lot more practical when space is an issue.

I hate usa flag knives I think they're gaudy as fuck but I actually get angry when I see one that isn't actually made in USA. I found what I believe is a puukko, do any of you know where exactly it could be from, I'm German and have no Finnish relatives, I have no idea how it ended up here, but it's old, shows some signs of wear, like the handle loosing color where it protrudes from the sheath, some impressively little rust for a knife that's been sitting in a basement for at least a few dozen years. It probably didn't always have that butter knife shape, the tip probably broke off at some point and was resharpened, which sadly makes the engraving on the blade indistinguishable.
>>65324710Second view. Also the thing is small as fuck, like 15 cm (5in) or something.

>>65325881Standard is $180 from a dealer. There are discounts floating around on top of that.
>>65326183Everything that was $100 a few years ago is $200 now.
>>65326356That's because normal sharpening stones are at a 9 hardness and vanadium carbides have a 9.5 hardness. So you end up abrading the steel matrix around the carbides and they stand proud and possibly tear out with use. However, I recently stropped an s30v knife that was never hair whittling to hair whittling using boomer flexcut gold compound.

Are kukri actually good or useful compared to other blades? I hate the look of them and many youtubers use them and look like fags
>>65323412I started a knife making hobby a couple months ago and the more you learn about knife making(or anything) you realize the product you imagine yourself buying doesnt really exist. Not because it cant exist but because it cant at that price point most people are willing to pay. So the product will try to look more like that than actually be that. In knifery(is this not a word? Should be…) they will skimp out on something-they have to to have a functional business.Either steel is shit quality, heat treatment is bad, or the grind/sharpness sucks.Spydercoon and “good” companies just do the bare minimum to have the look of a premium knife. So they will buy the right steel but maybe not heat treat so well or not sharpen it perfectly. Never seen any factory knife come with a pristine edge before, at least a decent looking one under a microscope that is also at least close to the same angle on each side. You want something done right you gotta do it yourself. Got myself the steel, the equipment to grind it and sharpen it and ovens for heat treatment. A good quality blade done right with a good handle could easily be $600USD, maybe a little less. Takes time to do it right. Every company makes manufactured slop. This skill has been way harder to learn than what I thought when I set out to make a knife. Not to hard to grasp concepts but to actually do it is challenging, and requires patience. One of the better hobbies I have picked up for myself, forces some personal growth. Belt grinder is probably the most important thing to spend money on, you can even do heat treat cheap as hell. Belt grinder is a must tho
>>65327051They're good for chopping brush and branches. Guy I know did a tour in Afghanistan had bought one to kill whatever goats they'd buy to supplement rations, but it was too heavy to carry around and too unwieldy to do much else. If you were fighting other people with swords, it's like the falcata - good for chopping heads and limbs, but you're probably not gonna' last long against thrusting swords.
>>65327091>Either steel is shit quality, heat treatment is bad, or the grind/sharpness sucks.Every CRK I've bought (7 at this point) have had keen even edges and virtually identical fit/finish/action. Have not put the edges under a microscope though but that's getting a little silly. Also their heat treats are known to land perfectly in the advertised range of 63-64 for magnacut as per the database.Basedderco usually does a solid heat treat but yes the grind quality is all over the place...
>>65327218Never bought from them but they sell some pretty expensive knives in the price range I was talking about so hopefully so…Honestly you dont need much magnification to see an edge, you almost can with your eye. But getting the right angle doesnt necessarily mean its great for that angle, you can have a bad quality angle. Like the magnamax thing is an obvious example of this, but grinders n bits in factories used all day long will do the same thing to normal steels. This stuff needs changed often for best results
>>65327218Grind quality for the few spy I own has been on point for me BM on the other hand…
>>65327230>Never bought from themU should they're great
>>65327091There is certainly a difference between a Spyderco, Benchmade, and CRK. I'm sure CRK skimps on things, but after owning one for a while, I have trouble finding what they skimped out on. Spyderco, quality-wise, I think, is actually behind Benchmade; however, their price-to-exotic-material ratio is much better, which is why I still buy them. CRK is on another level compared to both. I am hoping Hinderer is like that as well. But a lot of people have been complaining about their heat treatments lately, which makes me really hesitant to get one. If I do get one, it would probably be the Eklipse Skinny Flipper in hollow grind.
>>65327867>Spyderco, quality-wise, I think, is actually behind Benchmadeexcept for heat treating every steel to 58-59hrc.
Ive never had a qc issue with microtech but I have experienced a straight up design flaw that nobody else seems to mention even though i saw it on four of the same model so im sure it's not qc..
>>65328097Yeah, that's true, the steel itself is better. The hardware is worse; the FRN is kinda better, but overall, the assembly, fit, and finish are worse. I never had an off-center, lock-stick BM, even the cheaper ones. Most Spydercos come with lockstick or uncentered blades.
>>65328104The painted ones, where the paint scraps off when you open the knife, are laughable. I will never buy a Microdick.
>>65324761love my opinel #8. super lightweight and compact, and functionally doesnt take up any weight or space. I always have one in pack. Great for light camp tasks and food prep and in a pinch are a decent backup knife. Pretty good for cleaning game too. 10/10 I even have the little kit that lets you make it a fork or spoon. Pro-tip: use Ballistol to clean it since it's foodgrade.
>>65328180I use this stuff since it came with the knife oil I bought. It's okay, but it does leave a white film on everything. I bought some Ballistol when I was buying a lot of Glocks back when Hickok recommended it. Is he even still alive? Anyways, ended up getting rid of all of my Glocks and I don't know where I left that can of Ballistol, I can probably find it if I try...

>>65326192NEVER FUCKING EVER buy from this place. They are dropshippers and trust me it's not worth it. Assuming you ever get what you paid for from them, if ANYTHING goes wrong they will hang you out to dry. Trust me, I ordered from them too but the reduced prices they advertise are not worth the headache of dealing with them. It's literally like one jeet with an email address.
>>65328719The fun part about buying from them is trying to get your money back. They are selling stuff that is not in their inventory. And if say Sypdershit doesn't send them the knife they will just keep your money and stay silent for a month.
New knife, Hogue Mysto. Magnacut blade, Richlite handle, and green anodized titanium hardware. Cost me around $160 shipped, so far fit and finish are great. Hogue's heat treatment of their Magnacut is usually in the 62-64 HRC according to 3rd party testing which is great. A comparable knife from Benchmade would be the Barrage which costs $400 and doesn't have Magnacut. I just got it so obviously I haven't really put it through much but it feels really nice. Hogue seems pretty underrated as a knife maker, they're relatively new to the space and don't have a lot of advertising but I like what I see so far. It came a bit tight so right now I'm oiling it up and opening and closing it a lot to break it in so I can flick it open and closed, if that doesn't work, I'll loosen the pivot a bit.
>>65328731After they took weeks to even get back to me about shipping the knife, I knew I would have no luck trying to get my money back. I sent them an email to prove that I tried, waited a few days, then called my bank and told them to do a chargeback. They want to fight, I've got a fucking paper trail.Fuck Chicago Knife Works. Seriously. They're worse than any gun seller I've ever dealt with. They make OpticsPlanet look like Lanbos.
>>65328743It was cut and dry for me since they only made a label. They did tell my CC company that it was delivered, then gave them the label number, only for it to say 'label created.' The CC company didn't even get back to me about the label, just a final report, included in the report, saying the merchant sent them a tracking number that was never delivered or shipped. I am honestly surprised VISA hasn't banned them yet...
>>65328740I also got the richlite metal version but I didnt like the scales they feel like recycled paper put through a hydraulic press or something so I got some awt aluminum scales and now it's perfect.

>>65328824yeah, I have multiple. Rokka, Juha Perttulla, both are at 63 HRC. But every 'scientific' test of edge retention is done with lesser heat treatments for the steel, at least from what I can find. I'm just going to have to buy my own rope and test it I guess.Even then it won't mean much since a true scandi grind isn't the most durable thing out there, a convex would probably do better on rope cutting tests regardless of steel

Though, almost none of them have sheathes so you have to make your own. He seems to have severe autism of the based variety, got a phd in metallurgy and just wants to make knives. "No, fuck you, make your own sheathe I make knives not sheathes" kind of autism. Except for a limited run with a historical medieval sheathe recreation from samples found in an archeological site in Finland, because autism. It's my understanding that he's the guy who created the process for Lauri's 63 HRC blades.
>>65328921I have a Juha whittling puukko, it is nice.
>>65328887That thing looks like it would cut like a brick. Very thick grind.
>>65329002It's flat on the other side
>>65329016That's not so bad then. Why is it like that? Cheaper?
>>65329020it's a Jap thing. Not all Japanese blades did that but some did, and especially chef knives still do.My guess is like the tanto tip they thought it was cool so they did it. On actual Japanese knives and the like there would be no secondary bevel however, so it would be way slicier.
>>65322187What's the little notch at the base for?
>>65328690Looks good. Daggers are the double black diamond of sharpening. What dps was it before?
>>65329032Emerson is not Japanese.
>>65329178Yes. But they're emulating Jap shit. That's the point. If they were Japanese they'd do it better.
>>65329183>154CM>$210Make this make sense anon, for that price I would expect at least memecunt or S45V. I kinda wanted one and looked it up on Knife Swap, crazy that its so hard to find one on there.
>>65329191nigga it ain't my knife I can't force myself to give a fuck about folders.
>>65327091> it cant at that price point most people are willing to pay.> they will skimp out on something-they have to to have a functional business.> Every company makes manufactured slop.Machining bits wear out, sanding belts wear out, molds wear out, there's a million tiny vibrations or other interferences that can cause even lasercutters to not be super accurate, there's the raw atmosphere which changes day to day, some assemblers care more than the next guy, better training for sharpeners, etc. At the end of the day, it's a business and it's there to make money. If you've got the knowledge and patience you can take just about any knife out there and give it a good polish and spitshine and make it smoother than glass. Even ignoring steel quality for a moment, the difference between a cheap knife and a more expensive knife could be more frequent tool bit / mold replacements, stricter QA/QC on the parts, different material quality for parts, machine vs hand sharpening, and more. >>65328104Would love to know more.>>65328134It's painted, not anodized. Treating any of the painted knives from any company as anything more than a wallhanger or pocket jewelry is stupid. [Not to mention basically all the painted special editions use chassis that failed QA/QC on the first round and needed to be adjusted]>>65328668Well you used a DE which is much thinner than a TE/SE, so that's kinda on you.
Do the new CS boxes really look like this? Also the coating on the blade is matte now? tfw coldsteel has fallen
>>65329723At least Benchmade uses Cerakote that doesn't peel after opening the blade up the first time, using Rust-Oleum rattle can to paint $500+ knives is unacceptable. That being said I will never buy one, money better spent on CRK, Hindere or McNees.
>>65330152> doesn't peel after opening the blade up the first timeI've literally never see that happen on MT knives. Got a sauce? > Rust-Oleum rattle can to paint $500I don't know what is used for the air brush paint but I did talk to some of the painters when they were doing the Christmas knives and I saw them hand paint the lights.
>>65330737I always wanted a regular single edge stonewashed orange Ultratech. Thankfully they kept making retarded Star Wars special editions that by the time I found what I wanted there had been two price increases and I wasn’t going to pay that for dealing with the proprietary screws. Got two Hogues and a Kershaw.
>>65331458I 100% sympathize. I was trying to get a purple Mini Hera S/E for my mother as a gift but couldn't due to one reason or another. Unfortunately, how MT does those is they order stuff in large batches without taking special editions into account as much as they should. Additonally, as I said, generally a lot of the "special editions" and painted stuff will use refurbished chassis first, regular chassis after. So if they have the demand for 10 Ultratech Star Wars stuff that use the base orange, zero "refurbs", and only 10 orange chassis, they'll use all 10 oranges for the special editions. What did you end up getting?
>>65329052Preventing blood from running down the blade.Using as a sight for throwing the knife.Parrying other blades.
>>65330737So, what's your opinion on $45 Chinese micro tech knockoffs. Mines been going strong for about 3 years now excluding the pocket clip that snapped off.
>>65323233I knew BM was done when they discontinued the Nimravus, and their QC had already been slipping by that point. I'm glad I got my 940 before they went to shit. It's a shame but at least Spyderco can pick up the slack.
>>65331505The only fake I bought was the Halo IV (this was before we knew they were coming back) because I saw the prices on the second hand market and said "you're higher than giraffe pu**y if you think I'm shelling out $3000 for that thing. It wasn't terrible, but it was clearly a knockoff. I'd have to get the small tri-wing bit to open it up and polish it so it's just a safequeen right now.I don't have a problem with people buying them as long as they're not being scammed by some twat at a flea market or online. Hell, the Chinese were cloning the Socom Bravos or whatever and Tony basically outsourced them all to China to save on costs. If you tell me which type, I can give a more solid opinion. I've considered buying some of the MSI Mini clones as cheap ones for the house / work truck.
>>65331528Spyderco is going the same path as Benchmade, increasing their prices across the board and charging premium custom prices for mass production knives. The one good thing about them is that to the best of my knowledge, their heat treatment is still good, unlike Buttermade, but it's 2026, there are plenty of makers doing good heat treat and its definitely not something that excuses the prices they are asking.
>>65331477Hogue Counterstrike blue/black G10 and an exclusive orange Livewire. The other Hogue is an older Boker Plus that I got when I was first interested.
>>65331477Also I always forget that I got a green UTX85 a long time ago, but they are small enough that I kind of have to contort my hand to operate it and never use it.
>>65331553My endura 4 wave was $100 when I bought it 3 or 4 years ago and it's $120 now, that doesn't seem too bad. I wouldn't be surprised if they're going nuts with certain lines or models but their basic stuff seems to be holding fairly steady.
Anyone have a BPS Aurora, or similar? It looks like a modern edc pocket puukko that I want.
Just came in, man, this thing is nice for the price. Came in not very sharp but just stropping it made it razor sharp. Cutting veggies for my meal prep was a breeze with this knife. I kinda want a more snobby version now.
>>65331756Can someone explain what the big metal round bit in the middle is for?
>>65331573> wanted orange> got bluehaha. >>65331579The old style? Yeah those things are super stiff compared to a full-size or even the Gen4. If you can test out a Gen4 I'd recommend it.>>65331768The knife is a folding knife. You rotate that collar to line up the slot with the handle to allow the knife to open or fold, and then turn it again to lock it in place.
>>65331756Opinels are amazing picnic knives.
>>65331950It's cheap and a good start to a collection. I would recommend a Spyderco Delica 4 or Endela for your next knife. They're a lot more expensive than the Opinel though. Maybe start slow like Kizer or Civivi then work your way up to a Spyderco.
>>65329723>Would love to know more. Its the dam gen 3 combat troodons. It's not a matter of if but when you start having retraction issues. Either the lock interface on the blade should have been ground down more or the rear lockbar was made too long. Tap it into the handle while the blade is off track to see what i mean. Takes a much harder impact than any other otf ive ever held to make it lock. I dont understand how they messed that up. My ultratechs lock in with little more than the force of gravity pulling it down. 100% reliability. Not a coincidence.
>>65332317Depending on the age, but what's probably wrong is that someone used the wrong spring on the retract lock. It's also possible it slipped out of the hole. You can attempt to fix this by cleaning and oiling the action or polishing the slider where it interacts with the lock to make it smoother, or send it in and tell the Repairs dept to fix it.
>>65331773It’s not that it’s stiff, more that it’s just shorter and thin enough to not give a good grip while manipulating it with my thumb. I have 4 otf knives and have no idea why people complain about them being stiff. Probably pushing too many pencils for a living.
Sharpest knife you own?
>>65332562Bugout 535 with S30V, IDK why but its just slicier than my Magnacut, 154cm, D2, Aus10, knives. I have a Magnamax on the way and IDK how I can sharpen that.
>>65332342I found the same issue on 4 different units
>>65332562My pd1 endela. Because it's freshly sharpened and I haven't used it much since.
>>65332562Rokka Korpisoturi, easy
>>65332562
>>65332562My newest knife, so fresh edge and 1/16” stock, friggen laserbeam.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkdtbK8QYWoThe comments section is turning on him. I think this might've just been a saga of a guy learning to sharpen. His channel is just a year old. Not to mention he buys everything off Amazon.
>>65332562It's a 9-way tie at the moment.
>>65332608Spring on the locker then, if it's BNIB / safe queen. MT went through... two? three? different springs for the CT, I think? and it's caused issues for ages since the parts dept isn't told when revisions come down the pipeline, so they open a new bag and toss in the previous holding drawer, so Rev1 parts get mixed with Rev2, and we couldn't separate them to run through all the old shit first so we didn't have these issues. One of the many issues I bitched about while I was there.
Well it's here! Unfortunately those who are not in Titanium tier will NOT get one. In fact Titanium tier is not even a guarantee to get one, however you can still try if you buy $400 worth of products from BladeHQ right now. To get into the Zirconium tier you would need $1400 which is like 4-5 knives. But if you're in Zirconium tier you are 100% guaranteed to get one.
>>65334990bhq is the most jewish site ever
>>65335082Both incredibly reddit and jewish. For me it’s knifecenter.
>>65335086>>65335082Is Spyderco like Rolex now where they won't sell you one unless you buy 2-3 shitters first?
>>65335210Luckily a tanto pm2 is the last knife I'd want to buy from them
Can a bri'ish even own a knife?
>>65335312I hate anything Benchodemade, Jewderco or Microdick. Just funny watching these retards on reddit bendover backwards to BladeShalom.
>>65322569there is a point to it in Germany, since this is a folding knife, there's no blade length restrictions unlike for a fixed
>>65328774isn't that basically what Richlite is
>>65335322I like some spydercos, but otherwise agree. Feels good to not be involved.
>>65335378I mean I still got the Manix 2 MemeMax just to test it out. I wouldn't have bought it at full price, though.
>>65335322Hogue is the white mans pocket knife.
>>65335346Pretty much. I got my pops a Boker AK1 drop point with red richlite scales. I’m not a fan of red, but they look really nice.
>>65335334I'm surprised that's not exploited constantly. Seems like an obvious oversight.
>>65335423A Delica/Endura/Endela with well patina'd K390 is all the knife anyone needs. Yes it's a Spyderco, the only good one they make.
>>65335484>finger choilNo
>>65335484I feel the same about my pd1 delica and endura. Performs better than 99% of meme knives
>>65335322Of those 3, Spyderco at least still makes solid knives, they just overprice them. Buttermade and Microshit are overpriced AND their shit sucks.
>>65335423Based, this guy did a close up image of a Bugout factory edge vs a Hogue Mysto factory edge, and it's like night and day. https://youtu.be/S6h6dSshBYI?si=okS0k5KvXBmxrI_t&t=425
I bought this knife a few years ago when I started cooking things other than frozen dinners. It looks worse than my Zwilling or Henkels, but man, does it hold an edge for way longer.
>>65335646>buys $500 knife>opens it>scale scrapes the paint offI tend to agree, I don't understand why people would buy this piece of shit over something like a CRK or Hinderer.
>>65335764They used to be good for OTF autos but they have gotten complacent and lazy, while the rest of the industry has not only caught up but surpassed them. I feel like they only exist based off of old reputation and maybe people confusing them for Pro-Tech. Same with Benchmade. In 2017, the Bugout was great and people didn't care as much about heat treat, but its 2026 now and even Chinese knives are coming in with good HRC.
>>65335777Don't even get me started on their made-to-fail OTFs. Their knives are pure garbage, and only morons would pay hundreds of dollars for them.
>>65335653I really want a Mysto now too bad its always sold out.
>>65335811Freedom Knife Shop has them in stock, for a good price too.
>>65335816Everyone has the red one for $185, I think Freedom when they are down to a few knives reverts the prices back. They did that with the Manix 2 memeMax as well. I saw the Mysto for like $152 there at one time. I'll wait for it to come back down or try to figure out how Knife Swap works and maybe trade my 535 for a Mysto.
>>65335824Add it to the cart retard.
>>65335764>>65335783"made in usa" fags get what they deservefidget lock fags get what they deserve
>>65335811https://www.knifecenter.com/series/hogue-knives/hogue-mysto-folders?srsltid=AfmBOoqY1-sYeCgbx1fuOFCiRdxV8U8lDFytmYncN5zkGgzEpECeJJQSAll models in stock at this slightly larger than average web store.
>>65335825Oh wow nice, I am gonna email them first to see if I can add it to my Manix 2 order. Save $10 on shipping for both knives.
>>65335816Damn that’s a great price on the blue one.
>>65335842I wanted a blue so bad but when I ordered they only had the wood in stock.
>>65335847I bought a blue one a while ago. Great little lightweight knife. Classier than my Deka. The richlite scales saved the model.
>>65335783Gen 4 ultratech is rock solid and ill stand by it. Vidrel is an early ramlok issue that they fixed but the action on them is still typically kinda shit and the Stitch is a hideous piece of shit that's only made uglier by dipping the entire thing in a bucket of melted Barney...
>>65335861I would argue the Mysto did to the Benchmade 940 what the Kershaw Bel Air did to the Bugout. A similar feeling knife at a better price and with higher quality.
who makes the kukri in OP? sexxo
Life is so fragile. I keep thinking about how somebody walking by me can just slash my neck with a box cutter and that's it. I'm gone in a fraction of a second from one simply motion a child can do with a 3 cent piece of metal. Why do we try so hard to be anything? We're as ephemeral and delicate as a leaf about to fall from a tree.
>>65328132>Most Spydercos come with lockstick or uncentered bladesI've bought enough Spydercos to back this one up. Every now and then, you get off-center blades, but I'm willing to forgive them because they look and feel cool and I like the extensive selection of steels. I honestly wish the Manbug had more steel options because the Japanese models are just better.
