Why did wheeled direct-combat vehicles fall out of style?
Mobility hysteria. What if there's impassable mud? Wont somebody think of the impassable mud.
>>65332953they didn't
>>65332953they did not though?e.g.there are like 2000+ Boxer on order in different variants from various western militariesGermany alone plans to have 3000 boxer by 2035, among those a ridiculous 600 Skyranger
>>65332953They didn't, as always it's a terrain issue and if you expect to be fighting on hard dry ground wheels are the way to go.The US is the only major player that can't really run wheels because they fight all over the world and never know where the next war might be.
>>65332953Beacause they are TRUCKS! Tofflerian, trackless-tarded US Generals have finally seen the light of high-impact, BATTLEBOX-based warfare, centered around WAR-WINNING M1113 "GAVIN" light tanks!
>>65333180>Sparkyposting in 2026Well shit, that wasn't on my bingo card.
>>65332968It is a significant concern, after all.
>>65333278a mech could just lift his foot and keep going btw like elephants do
>>65333290>but my mecha magical imagination fixes it all
>>65333278Not anymore, those armors, in this case, would be dead within 10 minutes in 2026 ukraine.
>Why did wheeled direct-combat vehicles fall out of style? They did not. Russia these days is focused on wheeled vehicles.
If the recoil of the 105 or whatever they try to shove on board is so high, why not just create a missile launcher
>>65333363Brown.
>>65333363That "armor" is already dead. That's an MT-LB, it's an artillery tractor by design, it was just used as a bootleg APC/IFV due to availability, simplicity and cheapness. You could shoot it through using a basic bitch assault rifle. Almost all of them were destroyed years ago by this point. The main reason is easily glides through mud is specifically because it's a large tracked vehicle which doesn't weight much, since there's pretty much no armor.
>>65333517Because missiles are expensive compared to shells?
>>65332953the weren't on the right track
>>65333517Reminder that the "MGS flips if you fire from the side" is an actual lieIt's just not true, I can tell you from personal experience.
>>65333290A mech would have much higher ground pressure and so would sink deeper than almost any other vehicle.
>>65334141Wasn't the issue that it was wearing out suspension components?
>>65334141I have never heard that about the MGS, I was referring to >>65334392
>>65332953Damn, imagine running this bad boy at full speed. Slamming on the brakes and then while the suspension is still compressed taking a shot and immediately backing off. DAMN!
>>65333180METAL BOXES!?
