What's your third favorite class of ship? For me its Kanimbla class LPAs, Newport class LSTs modded into mini LPDs.
>>65336353patrician taste mate, too bad now the LPD meta is just a flight+LCAC deck combo and no bow ramp.maybe with a resurgence of smaller amphibious ships we get more unique designs
>>65336353the original Didos always look a bit wonky imo, the lower profile of the Bellonas is just rightand the 5.25 is one of the best looking naval turrets out there
>>65336353NAMBLA???
>>65336353Look at the lines of this beauty. Look how clean she is. She was always that clean, partly because she wasn't belching smoke everywhere she went, partly because my grandfather made damn sure his crew kept her that way. He loved that ship, said it was the finest vessel he ever captained.
>>65336353>australian jankbest is none other than HMAS We Have Amphib At Homean Australian-modded build of a British roll-on roll-off amphibious cargo shipcapable of carrying 300-500 troops, a company of Abrams tanks, and a battalion of APCscan carry two vehicle landing craft and two personnel landing craft, and a helicopter pad (albeit no hangar)also mounts a massive crane capable of lifting an Abrams tank whole, plus two smaller cranes for general cargoit looks so fucking GI Joe
>>65336353The IowasSorry but HMS Repulse/Renown and Bismarck/Tirpitz are too cool
>>65336841That’s an incredibly cool piece of family history anon, thanks for sharing. Also that boat is gorgeous. It makes me sad that we’ve given over so much of our shipbuilding capacity to China because our dumb ass politicians bought the whole “end of history” lie.
>>65336863>it looks so GI JoeYeah it just needs a twin mount 5” gun turret and a couple of MLRS rocket pods plus a few twin bofors 20mm here and there to complete the aesthetic.
>>65336863>HMAS We Have Amphib At HomeOne of my (engineer) friends says it took them 3 attempts to leave Sydney Harbour on their way to the Solomons. The POS kept breaking down.We had a pretty bad run with amphibs about 10-20 years ago.
>>65338754did your friend have anything to say about the Adelaides?despite their problems, the end result was certainly the most capable Perry-class frigate in the world
>>65338754They were just busy ships, the navy ran them hot and wet, put them away cold and woke up the next day to keep doing that over and over for about a decade. The poor old Balikpapan's even got rode into the ground, fixed up, repeated over and over until they finally gave them away to the Philippines and PNG I think about a decade ago.>I did not enjoy being on the Balikpapan! The Kanimbla probably would have lasted another 10-15yr in service if they'd actually looked after them properly and managed their demand for landing ships better with more units, instead they got run like a teenager with a AU Falcon>Can't park there mate>get fucked, watch this!
>>65338821>did your friend have anything to say about the Adelaides? He was only on the old Melbourne (he said she was haunted) and the old DDG Hobart which was his favorite ship.People generally liked the Adelaides, apart from the sea keeping in heavy weather IIRC, and lack of a proper gun.
>>65338925>with more unitsEspecially after Bougainville and INTERFET. Our jackassery with the LPAs also prevented replacing the Perths with the Kidd class.
>>65338956>old DDG HobartThe C.F.A.s were probably the prettiest cold war destroyers, after maybe the long hull later T42s.
