Is this stupid or genious?
It's cheap, it works. Is it ideal? Of course not, but when you're working in an area with GPS jamming and you get lost, having a magnetic compass to reference beats nothing at all.
>>65341345>It's cheapyes>it worksDoubtful. Such a compass1) must be held level2) must not be near ferrous materials. 3) must be shielded from nearby magnetic and electromagnetic fields.
>>65341342HATO spends trillions on satellites while russia uses $1 compass
>>65341342What's stupid is you didn't manage to check the catalog which has the exact same thread with the exact same image already in it.
>>65341372Anon, it's giving a rough bearing not precision navigation. It's just "fly away from the enemy, fly towards the enmy".There is a LOT of leeway in that level of precision where it's 100% viable in this use.
>>65341434>It's just "fly away from the enemy, fly towards the enmy".and it's very unlikely to be capable of even that low level of accuracy. It's simply gonna point at the nearest motor or the lead coming out of the battery.
>>65341345A magnetic compass chip is $3. And it world work.
>>65341342>Is this stupiddoes it work?
It reminded me of those very early remote-controlled drones that used a TV camera to film the instrument panel and transmit the image to a base unit for control.

>>65341342We have gotten to this point where things like webcams which people only 100 years ago would have marvelled at are so mass produced that yes, it is a cheaper solution than GPS becuase GPS is expensive and not produced on the global market nearly to the same level as it fills a specialist role rather than a broader domestic role.Person who came up with this is a fukin modern warfare wizard. War is weird in 2026, just as it was in 1913 or 1945 and every other time where you weren't just stabbing something with a stick.
>>65341461They do not work all the time at the $3 mark. The one in my phone doesn't and its a new phone. Its $45 for a good one like a witmotion. A webcam is effectively e-waste (worth less than a sandwich) and easily soildered into an arduino. The Ziggers attaching this can see if it "points to the nearest wire and antenna" before they fly it and can fix it if its wrong. These drones are likely made of Styrofoam anyway and stay quite stable.>>65341372>>65341450
>>65341342It beats not knowing where you're going and looking for roads and rivers.
>>65341342I have to ask: are there like 2 cameras on the drone or one that moves? because if it's 2, the whole chip thing suddenly becomes cheaper

>>65341342Old fashioned, inefficient, but effective. That was how we flew early drones like the TDR-1, a tv camera pointed at the instrument panel broadcasting to an Avenger backseater with a literal RCA television installed at his station.
>>65341342Drone warfare has proven that poorfag ingenuity can outskill billion dollar MIC hardware and completely change the game of warfare. If it works it fukken works.
