I hate how every take on doing shit like patrols in a SHTF/civil war/fucking whatever situation are all based on US doctrine which derives itself from Vietnam era stopgap non-solution solutions rather than taking inspiration from forces who actually fought asymmetrically like the PAVN from the same conflict. That is all to say, your fighting load should be able to sustain you for 12-24 hours with no pack and 36-48 hours with a pack. ZERO rucks used ever, and logistics being conducted via caches and conducting logistical release points in a clandestine way i.e. doing a dead drop. This idea of "living out of your ruck" is so fucking stupid it blows my mind that nobody questions it. >inb4 Let me just go ahead and set up an infantry regiment for the boysAny serious discussion involving SHTF where there is active fighting comes with the implication that there is organization. tl;dr a fighter shouldn't be expected to have more than a fighting load on at any given time and the thought of bringing a ruck beyond a safe area or assembly area just shows the severe lack of planning in regards to logistics.
I thought this was a thread complaining about SHTF LARPers, but you're one too. talking about "muh logistics" (that you don't have) doesn't make you better.
>>65341921Seeing as how we're not currently in any SHTF conditions, we are all larpers.
the most realistic SHTF scenario is having to evacuate from your home due to a natural disaster but that's not as fun as pretending you're going to be an insurgent when the heckin boogerlube comes
>>65341904What? Every single SHTF LARPerator I've met only has an assault pack and they think with 3 spare mags they're taking over like a "LEET NAVY SEAL." Not a single one of them is using overweight rucksacks. In a real SHTF situation the survivors are going to be farmers, ranchers, homesteaders, etc., not the guys who took all the "advanced firearms courses."
im actually going to make a bunch of gyrocopters and im going to do massive air assaults
>>65341986Nature abhors a vacuum. If it reached a point where active fighting was happening indefinitely (so not 95% of SHTF scenarios but the final 5% shit is actually beyond fucked type of scenarios) you're not going to have small groups of guys defending the homestead. Shit will go Yugoslavia/Somalia with factions emerging and fighting over resources and more power.
This thread tickled my autism to make this. Original content please donut steel:
I'm over the hill and want it to. Best plan: a shitload of 00 12 gauge buckshot and a motorcycle>muh riflemoney is better spent on more buckshot. Just be aware. And you have to be able to MOVE, that's where the motorcycle comes in. Even a dirtbike is fine. you're good going 50mph that's fast af when every road is blocked and filled with disabled cars.Once you have 5000 plus shells and a mossberg 500 you can worry about getting a nice rifle for sniping motherfuckers. Oh yeah, and a badass pair of boots and a badass leather jacket. You don't want to look like a pussy. I can't wait
>>65342026>>65341986In a real SHTF scenario lone farmsteads will become number one targets for looting once the cities empty of food and supplies. The previous anon is correct in that you should be looking at the Yugoslav wars for what a SHTF scenario will actually look like in a first world country. Stocking up on barterable nonperishables like medicine, alcohol, cigarettes and fuel is a much wiser strategy than hoarding food and ammo. Joining a local faction/militia will be preferable to attempting to be a lone survivor. Once the state collapses you will need to find strength in numbers or you will be isolated and picked off by someone else who had that idea first. The Viet Cong were not lone insurgents; they were active members of their local communities and blended back in after launching raids or ambushes. Same with the Taliban, Hezbollah, IRA etc., these are not just militias but also provide law and order in places where the state doesn't exist/is not trusted. The building block of a survival minded SHTF strategy would be organizing an active neighbourhood watch that does patrols for youth crime, welfare checks on the elderly, looks for lost cats etc. which can be armed once it has built trust in your community. Your militia should provide state services like security, order and welfare to your community and you will have people flocking to join you once the state collapses.
>>653424563 functions of a neighbourhood watch that are necessary to fill the void of state functions once SHTF:-Law & Order: in peacetime your watch can do the above mentioned actions to build community trust, if the state collapses you just continue as normal but with guns. Continue to enforce your local legislation for further legitimacy; recruit lawyers and cops to operate some kind of stockade and tribunal for law breakers.-Medical Care: in peacetime welfare checks on the elderly is a good public facing activity, also providing first aid training, try organizing events with your local fire department to get the community involved. Once SHTF your group must provide healthcare to the community, recruit nurses, pharmacists, EMTs, firemen etc. to operate a medical clinic.-Logistics: providing relief during natural disasters (food, flashlights, blankets etc) during peacetime. Once SHTF your group must provide some kind of logistical distribution network for your community. All food and fuel will be centrally stored and you must calculate how much should be allocated to each member per day; provide rations. Even if they are meagre it's better than providing nothing at all. Organize horticulture and livestock rearing for the unemployed to supplement your rations.Voila, you have built your own mini state with a military, courts, police, healthcare and logistics. Your community will fare much better than a random homestead and will probably have people flocking to join you for some kind of stability. You will probably have to engage in factional warfare to seize more food and supplies at some point but a state-style organization will be much more flexible and have more manpower available than an armed militia group with zero community behind it.
I hate the overstated self-sufficiency of farmers>yessir all my diesel, seed, parts, medicine and what have you is home-grown mmhmmm
>>65341904I’m pretty sure Civil War II is gonna be closer to Somalia i.e. poorly trained small arms-heavy militias having shootouts for control of neighborhoods and executing political opponents.
>>65342486This and the idea that rural Americans are all master hunters/farmers, my retard little brother loves going off about this shit. Like yes more of us hunt and are involved in large scale agriculture than urbanites but still 95% of us drive to the grocery store for all of our food, stores that rely on a complex logistical chain to get shit to us, and that goes for everything other than food as well. And most people in rural areas don't know SHIT about farming, which like you said relies on special equipment that needs to COME from somewhere. And I don't think urbanites would starve as quickly as people hope, even in cities. They'd be the first ones to receive aid shipments from other countries, either from land or by sea, and they could be supplied indefinitely. All the talk about starving out modern cities is retarded anyway, a SHTF-style boogiewoogie gang isn't gonna be capable of locking down the tens of thousands of paths in and out of a city of millions. It's not as easy as parking a line of trucks on a bridge and just shooting whatever tries to cross, and there's more of them than you

>>65342961let's not pretend like mr ""homesteader"" on his big farm with his combines and balers and tractors and GMO seedcrop is at all capable of casually swapping to self sufficiency in a total collapse scenario.and let's also not pretend like the average rural town is full entirely of professional hunters, farmers, and fisherman either.
>>65342972No place is going to make it through unscathed but I'd much rather be in a place with few niggers than a place with many niggers.
>>65342972To be fair we do have a lot of useless eaters but the cities eat them selfs in three days we'd last about two weeks in rural areas. I'd also point out farm is just easier so is hunting and gathering then the modern urban hell scape that isn't going into how every city in the states has literal feral people living in large numbers.
>>65342948Wheres your source for seal meat anon?
>>65343005>>65342984NTA and I agree about not wanting to be around a bunch of niggers if shtf but there's also something to be said for looking at historical parallels. Take the Russian civil war or any modern African or Middle-Eastern conflict, the cities are the centers of power because they're able to mobilise manpower more effectively.
Real true unironic SHTF scenarios is just immigrating to another country when your country is tits up. The only thing you should "prepare" for is how to get in to another state in a legal and safe manner, and getting a job as fast as possible. It won't happen in this or the next few lifetimes in states like the US or China, but may in Russia
>>65341904I think there's an overfocus on remote rural farmhouse retreats versus being highly integrated into your existing community with a strong network of friends, family, allies etc almost entirely as a product of the Cold War. The main thing people were prepping for for decades was a scenario in which almost every major urban center, valuable infrastructure, military base or industrial complex was getting nuked off the map. It made sense for people concerned about that to focus on being as far from civilization as possible. But for basically any other SHTF scenario that puts you last in line for any relief and reconstruction effort and in an area where banditry is going to flourish and the locals are more likely to put you in the outgroup for not being born there. >>65341983When I still lived in Louisiana I knew people who had a zombie plan but jack shit planned for when hurricanes hit and they had to evacuate, it was baffling.

>>65341904>rather than taking inspiration from forces who actually fought asymmetrically like the PAVN from the same conflict.you should look to yugoslavia for a shtf scenario, but then america doesnt have the ethnic divide that yugoslavia had. who would even fight who in a shtf scenario in the usa? west vs. east? north vs south? individual states against each other? who is the enemy? who is you? will you get drafted? to which unit?
>>65342456>In a real SHTF scenariowhats that "real scenario"? american shtf scenarios are always about zombie apocalypse type situations that are highly unrealistic and focus on isolation and basically raiding in bumfuck nowhere. you will get hunted as outlaws by the whatever is left of the original government and people will support them over you. whenever shit hits the fan the people want a strong government that regulates everything for their safety and security. some random bandidos who hunker down on some farm that have seized from the rightful owner that they are holding hostage now will not be the peoples choice.
>>65343264The same things that are useful if you have to leave your house are also useful if you have to shelter in place, during an extended power outage, for example
>>65343303The real scenario is niggers but before 2020 nobody wanted to say that out loud so they all said zombies instead.
SHTF will probably be regional with peaceful safe havens where the government and whatever military faction is in control are strongest Like Hargeisa in Somalia
SHTF/2nd Civil War will happen when Iran ends the Petro Dollar and suddenly Congress is forced to do a Balanced Budget. It wont be "regional" since there are pockets of Wetbacks and Negro slums in EVERY even small town. If your town has more than two stop lights, you got a few dozen ESL Mexicans who weren't there 5yrs ago. Govt is hard at work forcing "affordable housing" into otherwise nice areas. In the Protocols of Zion, there is a reference that I couldn't figure out about "....and if they join against us we will give them general war".WTF is "general war" in this context?IMO it could be what I've laid out. End of Petro Dollar means sudden end of Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, as well as lots of middle and even upper-middle class jobs that depend on Fed Funding, often several stages removed. It wont just be Ghetto welfare moms on the outs, it will be entire Architecture and Civil Engineering firms and massive Construction Corps.
>>65343303This guy never learned that "zombies" was code for violent mobs/gangs and city folk had a real reason to be concerned with them.
>>65343277Unironically already predicted a lot that has happened throughout the 2010's and into the 2020's back in the 90's.
>>65341904>I hate how every take on doing shit like patrols in a SHTF/civil war/fucking whateverIf my village has established farming in a SHTF scenario why shouldn't we patrol the farm lands every now and then to see if humans or animals have been in the area and stolen/damaged crops?
>>65343049>may in Russia>mayAnon...
>>65341904The SHTF seems are imagining a total and sudden societal collapse, which doesn't have any real precedent. The anarchic, mano a mano deathmatch is a daydream for insignificant people to fantasize about suddenly becoming the big fish in a small pond. Nothing more than an excuse for them to spend money on dumb bullshit. The most extreme, realistic examples are civil war and revolution. Both of those are intrinsically linked to society and its structures. >>65342472 is halfway there, but he's still imagining his LARP militia providing those things before hand instead of the militia growing out of pre-existing social support systems. Like Villa's División del Norte in the Mexican Revolution that he bootstrapped with the 1910s equivalent of HOAs and street gangs.
Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics and real niggas talk taxation plans and how spoils of war will be divvied.
Ignoring the 90% of SHTF which is just have a ccw and a bottle of water and the next 5% which is the same but maybe also a few days of food and water. The final 5% being the actual civil war/nuclear exchange things are fucked like for real type of SHTF that everyone likes to talk about. I think the smartest thing to do is to view a "loadout" as being set up to be able to slot into a fighting organization if the need arises. Gearing it to fill the role of like a rifleman in a squad, with personal training simply being all of the individual skills that an actual rifleman is expected to know should really be the focus and is really the only thing you can do. I'd rather take a dude who just has some ALICE LBE and a PSA rifle who knows how to perform remedial actions in case his weapon goes down and knows the basics of buddy team level individual bounding over the guy with some hyper autistic loadout who's $5k rifle isn't even zeroed.
>>65343918Patrol the farm with what? Where are you getting ammo?
>>65342456It's a bit dated now (1990s but with several editions / updates) but this was one of the most interesting "survivalist" books I've ever read. Because it was written about SHTF war zones in shitty ballsweat countries. A lot of the tips are like... know which areas are dangerous, how to recognize a checkpoint (or what to do at a checkpoint), how local behavior changes, how to blend in (military cosplay = bad). You don't want to look like a threat or a loot box. Also how think, like binary thinking = bad. In most conflicts there aren't simply "good guys" and "bad guys." The author had close calls in Colombia with both the AUC and FARC even though they were mortal enemies with different ideologies. You might think "I'm a leftist/rightist so these left-wing/right-wing guys should behave like X according to their ideology" but that is a category error. Most people die because they misread their area, misbehaved, and attracted attention. You don't want to be the richest/loudest/toughest/most political person on the street. It's the gray man thing but not in the wear-gray-clothes-and-carry-a-backpack way, more in a you-don't-want-to-be-categorized way (threat / enemy / useful person / victim). Think about who controls a particular area, what do they want, what benefits they get from stopping and/or waylaying random people in the area, which resources are scarce and who is desperate for what. Also SHTF scenarios very quickly become a business, which can also help understand someone's motivation. Maybe your isolated farmstead is getting raided, but maybe those guys just want to take your stuff so they can sell it, and don't actually want to kill you. It depends. You want options, like multiple routes to travel rather than one, multiple places you can stay. It's not primarily about the stuff, but an interesting trick is having little gifts to hand out to people, like those cheap flashlights you can get at Home Depot in a pack for, like, $10.
>>65347260Thank you for the recommendation anon
>>65343918If you're prepping for that scenario it makes more sense to stockpile surveillance cameras.
>>65341986None of those people you’ve mentioned are ready for prolonged periods of time where they can’t go to Walmart or Rural King.NONE of them.
>>65347260Samefagging but the stories are pretty interesting. Like him and a couple of other journalists got grabbed by the AUC in the Dairen Gap and held for 10 days, eventually released through a priest/humanitarian channel. The situation was pretty ambiguous because the AUC claimed they held them for their own protection (from the FARC), but it might have also been their policy to grab any random people like that wandering around in the jungle because who knows who they might be. The AUC also tried to fuck with them by not disclosing who they were at first. Kind of a local version of the "what kind of American are you?" line of questioning. And the people with him were like oh shit oh God they're gonna shoot us lolHe interviewed Mono Jojoy of the FARC in their camp as well. Jojoy was later killed, but he was apparently on the chiller side. He was giving their political line and Pelton said "don't blow that Marxist sunshine up my ass." Like tell me what's really going on. He was apparently alright but looked like a pissed-off Frenchman with a beanie on his head. At any rate Pelton gave him a patch which was for his brand of survival knives, and Jojoy was like that's cool, but it has a laughing skull on it, and one of the other FARC guys was like hey wait a minute, this is some military-fascist death squad thing (remember, these are leftists here) and he was like no no it's not that, it's just... and then the attitude started to turn. And Mono Joyjoy was like "hey why don't you stay for awhile" with a Cheshire grin. The FARC guys suddenly had this glint like, these journalist could be nice ransom paypigs for us... and that's when they decided it was time to get the fuck out of there.

Where you work changes, who you pay taxes to, and denominated in what changes, but other than a natural disaster or a specific battle you will have to be a gainfully employed taxpayer for the whole thing. There's an essay from someone who lived through the civil war in Myanmar or Sri Lanka or someone like ten years ago, and it talks about how SHTF is **EXACTLY** like life before SHTF, except you have to add "A mortar shell went through Ken's windshield, and now he's dead." to the list of bullshit reasons your manager wants you to work late tonight.

Even for mongols or Arab Bedouin war and raiding is about securing your position in your society. Like that saying that is probably apocryphal goes, US general tells vietnamese general after the war "We won every battle" and Gook goes "Yeah, that's also irrelevant".>>65355808Ukraine's tax agency putting out how war loot from russian vehicles is not taxable income demonstrated how fucking gay SHTF would be in 99% of cases. It's very few areas where you could go be like the idyllic Taliban guys complaining about what they used to do before becoming office workers.I think our love of hedonism is what saves us, because if things ever went apeshit everyone would rapidly back whoever could bring back electricity and sanitation services. If you had no water, no sanitation, no electricity for two months and along comes the Pol-Pot-Dirlewanger bongoboys able to bring back such services you'd support them real quick.
>>65347291Also this:https://youtu.be/0Gc-udzbL5oIt's kind of a stupid self-help interviewer but the subject is cool. The most interesting question here to me is about the "stuff." Like what do you do with your stuff on a day-to-day basis. And here's a warehouse full of stuff, look at what happened to that. The more stuff you have, the more stuff you have to worry about. It's like traveling light with a carry-on bag. People who are carrying a bunch of luggage are more likely to freak out when it doesn't arrive at their destination. A lot of Viet Cong guerrillas also traveled light. Having to make do with less might be better than having to carry too much.
Also think about it mentally. A lot problems people have in extreme situations is the anxiety / stress. So how do you reduce that. That will probably enhance your survival more than having more stuff. I'm not an ascetic but generally this kind of danger zone stuff is often pretty spartan.
>>65341904Survival in SHTF honestly probably comes down to luck more than anything

>>65343098>I think there's an overfocus on remote rural farmhouse retreats versus being highly integrated into your existing community with a strong network of friends, family, allies etc almost entirely as a product of the Cold War.The problem with your thinking is the vast majority of people will not follow or are incapable of following your advice, and therefore the best course of action is to remove yourself from those people as much as possible. The majority of the people, removed from the functioning civilizational infrastructure that keeps them fed and watered, become desperate, and are thus the problem. The cause of this failure is not relevant. So, being able to sustain yourself (pre-supplied, not living off the land bullshit) as far away from population centers, and staying concealed, is the best survival tactic, not "militias" or insurgency idiocy. But thats not what I am referring to.All other tactics are beyond your ability to control completely, because they rely on other people. It takes far less effort to pre-prepare and stock a site to sustain yourself, and its a sure thing, while "forming a community" is a pipe dream in most of America. That whole pipe dream is perpetuated by religious communities (primarily Mormons), which is where a lot of "prepping" culture was formed from. But the best defense against the majority of people who do not prep is to be no where near those people in the first place. And your community falls apart over time and changing attitudes, and becomes far more difficult to maintain as different members have different needs and different drains on the whole, each expecting the other members to pick up the slack. Not being attacked at all is the best defense possible, and you do not do that by being stuck in a place that is a glowing target for all the desperate people around you. /k/ is the combat larping board, and thus the fantasy of standing your ground in your little community fighting off the hordes is perpetuated by people that think SHTF is like a movie. You go remote to a well-prepared and stocked far from other peoples eyes, and wait things out, because if civilisation falls apart, every day that goes by will insure there is less of a threat against you than the last.
>>65342472>Khmer Rouge do basically none of those things and> in fact, they go in the opposite direction, destroy the functions of a modern state (such as blowing up Cambodia’s central bank and systematically murdering virtually all of its civil service), and expel the entire urban population from the cities and force them into subsistence farming>win so hard that they actually managed to temporarily achieve their goal of regressing Cambodian society to the Stone Age and it takes Vietnamese military intervention to put an end to themHow did they do it?

These situations will never happen. This is a fan fiction thread with extra steps. You’re not even going to wear that plate carrier in your closet.
>>65372571I can 100% see the possibility of local warlords fighting each other over control of a 7/11 in the not too distant future. It really doesn't take more than another economic downswing and complete destruction of lower/middle class having any chance of financial success for the idea of starting/joining gangs becoming a legitimate means of acquiring resources.
>>65372571>These situations will never happen. The statement that has presaged every civil war and social collapse ever. Arguably, it's the root cause of every civil war ever because moderates (who are normally the greatest check against extremism) are basically asleep at the wheel and the extremists are free to seize it and drive the whole vehicle off the road.
