Why don't modern uniforms have some sort of leaf suit strips sewn in by default? A few strips of laser-cut camo on the shoulders would help break up the silhouette a lot, and I can't think of any major downside.

Its a snag hazard and would interfere with other gear, plus possible hot spots under pack straps, plus a lot of the effect of leaf suits is in the color matching; which only works in certain seasons (hence russians issuing like 5 different types). Youll also notice that on both sides in Ukraine, leaf suits are primarily used by recon and sabotage units, because outside of them its more of an IFF risk than a benefit. Dont get me wrong, western militaries have certainly been caught lacking with their fixation of the old jute ghillie suits and in time leaf suits will be mass issued items; but they'll never the the standard uniform.

>>65352911>heavy>will never dry in the field>barely breathesleaf suits are made of the same shit tents are and have a mesh base, they're practically weightless and don't hold any water. thats part of the reason why traditional ghillie suits are obsolete boomerslop that have been basically irrelevant in ukraine, and are going the way of the dodo even among western countries observing the conflict. obviously theres a kinda ritual aspect to having your snipers make thier own suits in training to learn the principles of concealment, but when actually deployed, factory made leafsuits and viper hoods will have totally supplanted them before the end of the decade IMO.
