How well could would a shotgun loaded with slugs function as a replacement for a rifle?
>>65350864not very
Poor, especially against armor and in distance engagements. I have a magfed turkshit shotgun and the 10 round mags are bulky as fuck and a foot long.
>>6535086420 gauge mono-CU is good to over 100 meters. Real pros claim reliable hits on deer killzone over 150 meters with sabot slug.Issue is ammo weight and size.Bonus is versatility.
for combat? no for hunting? yesThere is a reason why shotguns are considered the "jack of all trades" gun. you can use them in the role of a rifle, but they just wont be as good as an actual rifle.
>>65350864Poorly and even less. Until you needs more than 5-10 rounds. You would have to be the poorest poorfag in burgerland to not afford a rifle if you really needed a rifles job done
100m? Yes.200m? Not really.Federal Truball is a 437.5 grain projectile at a claimed 1600 fps.
>>65350864Not nearly as well as a shotgun loaded with pistol caliber barrel inserts. You still aren't hitting shit past 50 yards might as well use something that works.
>>65350864You going to carry all that bulky shitass ammo or are we going to pretend 12 gauge isn't going to take up more space?
>>65350864I was nerding out about 458 SOCOM and I was thinking SLUGS are basically the same thing. A giant round with extra power. The 458 SOCOM sound loses massive energy after 100 yards, and it drops like a baseball throw past 150 yards. It makes the target explode, but that drop, and lack of magazine capacity just kill the idea. Plus 556 is also explosively hydrostatic around the same range. You're basically fucking yourself with slugs. But they are a cool option that works with eye opening effect. I'd guess they have about double the stopping power at their effective range, but either way you dead.
>>65351385>You still aren't hitting shit past 50 yardsThat’s weird, I can swear I was shooting slugs out to 300yds, but they must’ve mis-marked the range.
>>65351439That anon must be a no-shotguns.
>>65351439i've never had great luck shooting saboted 50 caliber bullets out of a smoothbore, they're all over the place. Rifled slugs, sure.
>>65351676Saboted slugs need a rifled barrel to spin stabilize them. That's why you're not getting accuracy with a smoothebore. Rifled slugs rely on diabolo principles to stabilize, so they work better from smoothebore.
