Having an existential moment right now that small arms are going to be relegated to PDW/handgun in warfare going forward.
I liked GPR, SPR, DMR, Magnums. This must be how knights and men at arms felt when suddenly only a sabre and lesser so a rapier alone became the only relevant hand to hand weapons. Going to miss the pole arms, longswords, maces. Every iteration of warfare gets less romantic. For this iteration maybe drone dogfights will be fun to watch and read about as they mature. Next up is nanobot swarms.

Basically only useful small arms are at un-expected contact distance between foes.
Yeah, we will see infantry used a lot for 20 years but its going to be dwindling. Im not creative enough to see all the next steps. A next obvious move to me would be blackpowder revolver equivalents where 500$ micro drones are stacked on a dude, the dude lasers a zone with enemies a couple hundred meters out, a drone darts to it and smacks the first heat signature cross likely confirmed by AI to be human shaped in the normal camera. Same technology up-scaled as cluster drone delivery rockets to different zones of the battlefield maybe with bigger drones and a return to safe space on low battery for larger scale.

If we arent talking first round impacts it's not challenging to walk rounds in very quickly at 300m with 10-12". Or at least hit close enough to break contact. Most of the advantage of bigger guns is first round hit or hunkering down to shoot further in a firefight which isnt particularly fast.
Without drones, they're all incredibly useful. With drones, send a drone at it or break contact when youre out of drones and get more drones.
You can argue shtf relevance pretty well but not so much warfare.

For what it is worth, unless they're lying, Jaguar claims to be one of the larger 3D printing DMLS OEMs, and their main business as Buktek/Bastech is Aerospace machining (sensi). Their location in Dayton sorta corroborates that.
But a machine shop in Dayton that just runs CNCs to churn out custom aerospace R&D part that actual engineers/physicists draw is not at all the same as an real company capable of design, engineering, and R&D themselves. It actually tracks that these retard button pressers might try to make suppressors based not on any actual design/R&D expertise but solely on the fact that they own the means of production.

No, this is a really stupid point of view that doesn’t stand up to logic. People were saying similar things about artillery, tanks, planes, and grenade launchers, and it never happened. Basically people just don’t get scale. Firefights and infantry on infantry action will always produce less casualties than explosives, especially so the squad level guided explosives like drones today. But that doesn’t change that infantry is fighting infantry at the same levels as before during assaults and defenses

Cheap easily produced accessible precision weapons have only been a very recent development that doesnt really intersect with weapons shifts of the past.

Horses, massed formations, siege engines and other tools of antiquity were rendered obsolete just as these developments will render some tools of the cold war obsolete.

Triad more than the dude walking around with a rifle. Generally you get 2/3 on most platforms. Look at the charts for how many 81mm shells are required to effectively "destroy" a square km, how expensive aircraft are and how imprecise a tank is.
Will infantry be fully supplanted? Of course not, but we are at the point of a massive shift on par with the start of ww1 or ww2. Just missing the world war part of things.

ngl I am still convinced the saturation of squad-level drone warfare has been overblown by the relative poverty of the russo-ukrainian war.

Less than 15% of Ukrainian long range drones hit their targets, and less than 5% if Russian drones hit theirs. One can assume better numbers for short range missions but I think propaganda campaigns only showing successful kills obfuscates the very real limitations of drones and their counters.
>>
>>65352433
oh, I'll be doing plenty of fighting when I take your bussy
>>
>>65352499
I really don't see drones as a "new" dimension of war, but an extension of both artillery and air assets, distributed down to the squad level.

America had reaper drones and dinky camera copters for years, obviously not as mature as new chinesium designs, and this new industry is supported by relatively few suppliers
>>
>>65352062

>>
>>65352499
Yes but still need Infantry to employ or at the very least, need infantry to kill. I really don’t think you’re gonna want to send any drone units to a contested area without some way of defending themselves directly that isn’t a one use drone. But yeah in general I do think you’re right in that there’s gonna be a pretty big shift in strategy and tactics

The opposite, its overblown by the relative accessibility. Both sides possessing unconstrained access to chinese made widgets allow really rapid innovation. One side is spending gold, the other side is spending your tax dollars.
>Less than X% do Y
Sure, Take the "18 fpv drones to destroy a tank" number you are still orders of magnitude cheaper than traditional anti tank platforms and even more orders of magnitude less than the tank itself. All of this plays into global deindustrialization , nobody is building casting plants but people are shitting out PCB assembly and fab houses to support consumer electronics.
>>65352514
>obviously not as mature as new chinesium designs
Once again, opposite world.
The MQ9 technologically superior to a supercam, orlan or similar smaller ISR platform being churned out by the shovel load. But the difference is the employment of small portable cheap isr platforms to shorten the killchain for existing weapons. No longer does arty need to wait for 6 people to call down something from an ISR platform to fire , they can respond to targets within 10 minutes with that number ticking down daily. Hence the difficulties with maneuver warfare you are seeing on either side.

Short killchain supported by ISTAR terrible for infantry. Autonomy striking in depth also pretty bad time.

I meant that not as in "they can't afford it" but the opposite, I meant they don't have f35s and reaper drones or big boy tech and so the importance of the relatively cheaper, less successful (percentage wise of missions) drones becomes over saturated

>no one is building casting houses
maybe not in the West because of the cost of labor, land, and the relative ease of making money in the ways you described making cheaper shit.
>>65352571
>Short killchain supported by ISTAR terrible for infantry. Autonomy striking in depth also pretty bad time
I agree. My point was that the theater we are seeing this kind of shift also lacks the other mature technologies that may or may not counter drones directly or compete with them strategically in terms of when/where to deploy.

I'm not going to pretend small drones that any grunt can call in to have some chick fpv it into a trench aren't a huge deal.

I guess my reservation stems from the fact that the people most utilizing the tech don't have to worry about other things. For Iran, their "success" is predicated on a lack of American appetite for casualties, both civilian on their side and military personnel on our side, in Ukraine and Russia both are brokebois, cartel everywhere in Latin America
>implying

You're right to try to get everyone and their mom in on drone warfare so they can understand its benefits and consequences. However I think the entire western world has been a little too gun ho about how these will disrupt military doctrine like nfts disrupted the art market.

>tl;dr
I think there are companies that profit off the hype and a lack of direct combat experience with squad level drone warfare like in Ukraine means the US is hesitant to dismiss it.

I remember when suicide bombers and IEDs were championed as equalizers, the poor nation's atom bomb, highly asymmetrical

>but those are harder to make and get than drones

Hypothesis:
For gas operated action, as you open port to increase total energy allowed through port the force vs time curve gets spikier and sharper. While total integrated area is enough to operate action reliably, recoil impulse gets correspondingly spiky and peaked. On the other hand, longer dwell time or longer "effective dwell time" due to a high back pressure suppressor allows for smaller port to let same total energy through, but that is over a longer period of time so force vs time curve is more mellow and gradual. Result is comparatively smoother recoil, less punch and spike. Less shit like charging handle unlatching (big think... issue was previously solved with omega... but then I opened port to increase total energy because effective dwell time of faguar way less than Omega... and LO still not even getting reliable lock back, but spiky impulse overcomes max force spring and latch can handle) The irony (and cool thing actually) is that what we have is a situation where high BP can is actually smoother recoil and operation cycle than low BP can. The distinction between total energy in an operation cycle being distributed over a longer period of time vs shorter
Changing the peak impulse values

Thoughts? I can return Faguar turns out to Silencershop for store credit.

Gather 'round, gentlemen, because we're about to revisit one of ARFCOM's eternal laws of nature: no matter what the thread starts about—gas rings, suppressor alignment, or whether CLP is a personality trait—it eventually devolves into somebody arguing about triggers. And lurking in the background, like two raid bosses waiting for the cutscene to end, are Mark LaRue and Bill Geissele.

Now, to be clear, this is entirely tongue-in-cheek internet mythology. Both companies make excellent triggers, and the real world is considerably less dramatic than the forums would have you believe.

That said...

Picture it.

AR15.com, circa the Golden Age.

A thread innocently begins:

"What's the best two-stage trigger for a general-purpose rifle?"

Thirty-seven replies later someone posts:

"Actually..."

And suddenly the temperature of the server room increases three degrees.

Bill "Oy Vey" Geissele arrives armed with engineering diagrams, metallurgy, finite element analysis, and approximately fourteen paragraphs explaining why the second-stage break is mathematically superior because of sear geometry developed during lunar eclipses using aerospace-grade unobtanium.

Then...

A single account logs in.

Mark "Da Man" LaRue.

No introduction.

No preamble.

Just enough Texas energy to lower the collective blood pressure of every machine shop employee within a fifty-mile radius.

He doesn't arrive with CAD renders.

He arrives with the internet equivalent of someone kicking open the saloon doors.

You can practically hear Jim Ross.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN... BUSINESS IS ABOUT TO PICK UP."

The thread instantly stops being about trigger pull weights.

It's now a cage match.

Some poor new user asks:

"What's the difference between tool steel and S7?"

Wrong question, rookie.

Latest HK50 video premiered today. As you are probably aware, its piston arrangement took inspiration from the AR-18 and so did the HKM4 (progenitor of the HK416). This example is notable for being a factory unit as opposed to a clone from Tommy Built like the one in A2Grip's possession.

First and foremost, the receiver is not to scale so the engagement surfaces and timing are all fucked to the point where Bowles has the "disconnector" phasing right through the trigger to compensate. Next, he has the auto sear angle limited during "semiauto" the way a factory unit would but that's incorrect because a DIAS has no "dog leg" to be cammed with so it should always be struck by the hammer regardless of selector position

Including the brisket. The BBQ sandwich legit was like they dumped a salt shaker in the meat before putting it on the bun. The best thing I tried was a cheesesteak burrito, but man the motherfucker was greasy as all hell. Granted it's passable for gas station food, but I'd argue so is QT's stuff on their hot bar.

>convenient
Again win for QT, and if we're paying with card at the pump both are equivalent provided you can find an open pump. Funny enough with all the dust and bullshit lately when I pulled up the first time at Bussy's (maybe a week and a half ago) to the pump to fill up and clean off the windshield with a squeegee, I realized they don't even fucking have any. What kind of gas station doesn't have napkins and squeegee/water at the fucking pumps? Fuck it, I'm a QT man for life.
